I remember those places from 2016. Temple of Heaven is also great. And White Cloud Temple. Ba Da Chu park in the outskirts as good too with a great temple up a hill. :) The weather looks good and clear.
This was pretty interesting. Hutong is not just a place but a close-knit community peppered with interesting gems, nooks and corners. Dom is so knowledgeable about it all and from the looks of it, a familiar figure to hutong residents speaking their language hehehe.....Bravo for the ride around. Go for the winter dip you guys! Go for the winter dip and let us know!
It's amazing to see how China still willing to preserve Hutong in Beijing despite its never-ending modern development. In many other countries, hutongs if there are any, will be totally wiped out to give way for modern high-rise buildings or other form of development. Can't help thinking also what is it like if there are hutongs in US. These are best places for drug addicts, homelessness and gang members and also there will be garbage everywhere. China is truly out of this world.
Hey there good to see you miss and that's a good choice to go around the capital! How are you? I hope you're staying safe in China and I wished you all the best for the season.
At first, when you two came out in front of the camera and both riding niu e-bikes, I thought this video must be an ad for that brand, however, in the last minute, it turned out to be an ad for guide Dom. Looking forward to seeing your dip in ice water hahaha...
Definitely will love to see both of you do the ice dip.☺️ Dear Nico, may I know if you speak Mandarin? I am very amazed to see if how you live so comfortably with the local as a foreigner to the country. Yes, the Chinese in China are definitely very friendly people.🥰
At the beginning of your video with the toilets that don't look like "proper" toilets but perhaps they are proper, it reminds me of when I was in Indonesia a number of years ago, I was in modern Department store, it had escalators, I don't remember if it had AC or not, I do remember I wasn't hot, I went to the Ladies Room, I opened a stall there was an opening in the floor but no toilet as in toilets that I know of and am used to, I thought it was out of order, I opened each stall same thing no "toilet" just an opening in the floor, there was an attendant little lady holding a rag in the Ladies Room, she didn't speak English, I motioned at her like "Where are the toilets?" she motioned back at me telling me to squat, I had packages, a purse, a dress, high heels, and pantyhose, it was awkward but I managed, the little lady attendant when I was finished she cleaned top of the area where I squatted with her rag, I later asked people about it, they said the toilets I'm used to aren't designed properly, physiologically, anatomically, physically for going to the bathroom, we are meant to squat
Yeah it’s very common here in Asia, I don’t have a problem with it but I know some people find it quite strange coming from the west. The only thing I struggled with was when I had a knee injury we had to make sure to go to places without squat toilets as I couldn’t mend down. Usually there is a choice in more modern places.
Those og swimmers are there everyday, really admire their spirit. Even for beijing locals, not many has tried swimming in 后海😂 life in old beijing has it's vitality. Is that 石雀胡同 near 簋街 in the end? I think I been there once for christmas market event, had a nice mulled wine with lot of people on rooftop. that was before the covid. Time flies...
Man, this brought me back, used to spend half my life in this area, cycling around, god it was an easy life back then, 'work' 16 hours per week, cycle around and chill for the rest. Miss my easy laowai life haha. Sweet memories. Beijing wo ai ni, or rather Gu Lou wo ai ni. The drum and bell tower area has declined though, there used to be cool atmospheric shops and bars around the square rather than just wall.
Majong is a "Brain exercise" for OLDIES. Proven to help prevent "degradationof Brain" due to excessive thinking. . Many Old Folks home , neighbours, etc encourage playing Majong in their FREE time.
Hey Nico, since you already did a car commercial, just wondering both of you could get to the various Auto shows there in China, like your fellow country man Oli Barrett who was in the Guangzhou Auto show just recently. Go get them some lucrative $$ contracts!
Living in the hutongs and not having been to lama temple is as bad as being a tourist in Beijing, but not going to see the Forbidden City or the Great Wall. lol
@@Nicofilms Fair enough, though. I do also highly suggest the Great Leap in the hutongs, not far from Shichahai. The bartender there is callled Liang. He's very sweet and also quite the character. ^_^
Yeah we have, but we need to make a video pretty much every weekend to release on RUclips each week. So it doesn’t leave us with much time 🤣🤦♀️ hopefully next year we can try to organise something though.

I love your video Nico
Thank you!!
Love the way of Nico’s clipping, relaxing, interesting and representing the core of the Hutong cultural base.
Thanks a lot!
We want Jack to come in front of the camera more often. :D
Jack only fronts up when he has forgotten or broken something!
@@jennyohara4011 haha very true!

Thank you. It is really a beautiful tour!
That's a personal tour, love it. Going thru the narrow streets with ebike, stop over at lovely places & eat, two thumbs up.👍👍

When you lift 850 million people out of poverty, and it's a society-driven culture, people tend to not do that.
