I’ve had my black cat with beautiful teal green eyes for 4 years now. His real name is Shadow. I call him Sir Pissalot.
Anyhow, the more I see this house, the more I love it! That front bedroom is wonderful with the original light fixture. Your furniture will be perfect there too!
I LOVE that enclosed front porch! I wish that I could have a porch like that. However, my house is a mid-century Bedford stone ranch house, 1956. I bought it 5 years ago today, oddly enough. I’m still slaving away at it and on it!

Scott!!! As a gardener may I suggest you make yourself a little compost bin, outta 4-6 pallets and fence posts on your back lot. Bag your leaves and start composting! You will have pure gold soil next spring to work into your new flower beds🌿Your a researcher, you will be so happy with the results, your new home would look so nice😊

You may have to get a leaf blower! I'm getting really hooked on your house remodel. I love seeing the old knob and tube wiring. It also reminds me of my house whee I lived as a teen. It was from the 30's, and there was no closet in my room and a tiny closet in another room. My dad had to knock out walls to expand the closet. I always had an awful metal wardrobe that clanged. My favorite part is your front porch. Can't wait for the next episode!!!!!

I'm loving watching your renovations. Your house is just charmimg! You will really enjoy that Agatha Christie book. She is my favorite author ever and I have every one of her books. Sadly, not first editions though. As some one else suggested, a pallet compost bin would be great for leaves, clippings, and kitchen scraps to produce dark rich soil for your landscaping. (No meat scraps though.) I can't wait to see everything all come together. I just wish Salem could have enjoyed the new place awhile. He would have been right at home!

I'm so glad I can vicariously renovate a heritage home! It is one type of home I never got to own, but always wanted to. I'm too old now, and live in a condo but I had it totally renovated and did it up in a 1940s style. My heart still is sad for never getting an opportunity to restore a heritage home...and now I can experience it through you, without my dealing with the expense or the mess! So THANK YOU, Scott! It looks just lovely so far and I eagerly await the wonderful things you have in store!

Love the property! Here's a suggestion from an old property manager of an even older property of 1890 and up houses. When taking leaves, rake with right hand into a snow shovel held in your left hand. Then people rake against bin, wall or tree and lifting with both hands pick up the shovel and deposit everything into container. Protect yourself with long sleeves AND gloves.

I'm a single mother of 4 children and 8 years ago we used to live in government housing. It was a town house with pokey windows in the front and back, no side as we were in the middle, and a 5×5m yard in the front and 5×8m yard behind, smack bang in the city. My children and I hated it, but it was better than being homeless, which we had been for 2 years. Anyhoo, after 5 years, I was able to afford private rental and moved to the country. Best move ever!! 4 1/2 years ago I ended up purchasing small acreage in a semi-rural town and there is no way I would ever move to the suburbs again.
You are going to love it there Scott, I can see how happy you are already 😊

I'd be putting some drop clothes down to protect the floors. Time to hit the flea market for some old garden tools. Went to two different stores to price a small pitchfork and developed detached retinas when I saw the price of over $60! Mower and mulcher will save you work and grass clippings will nourish your lawn. So, your plumbing and water system is ask! Have you met any neighbors yet! See, Mom, brought you a plant for your new home. Are you doing 220 line for your basement workshop! Do you then have to have your electrical work inspected by your town or city officials.

We also had a old screw in socket on the wall before they updated . Dead also we covered it. Neat looking but not practical. Not for sure when they went out . That’s the cutest little door in the attic . I would definitely try to be friends with that little cat lol

I had a similar issue when I moved into my house back in November 2002. It was built in the early 1950's, and the wiring was okay for it's time, but subsequent occupants have jerry-rigged wiring all over the house. I would trip a breaker, and it would shut off a light bulb in the basement and the TV upstairs! I have since had some re-wiring done, new 3-prong and GFI outlets installed, a new breaker box installed and put all the major appliances on their own dedicated circuits. I would suggest you do the same, especially since your house is older than mine. And on another note, those original hardwood floors look fabulous! Looking forward to the continual evolution of this house into the dream home you've envisioned!

LOVE the house and you are fabulous entertainment for this old antique collector. Had a 1927 home, my favorite of 6 over the decades..

So glad you are changing out the knob and tube. My in-laws has a Victorian built in 1888 with knob and tube. He couldn’t get fire insurance. Built from redwood so no termites. The new owners updated the electricity to the tune of several thousand dollars. I missed the cat.
