The Greek version of a green bean casserole is like a breath of fresh air. It’s braised in a hearty tomato sauce until the green beans and potatoes are nice and tender. I love to serve this with a great big slice of feta cheese. We eat it throughout the year but, it would be a wonderful side for your Thanksgiving table.
Here you have another delicious example of how healthy food can taste great too! The Greeks really figured out how to put the spotlight back on veggies and make them the star of the dining table 🙂 All you need with this recipe is a nice crusty piece of toasted bread to soak up the yummy tomato sauce and a slice of creamy feta cheese and you’re good to go.
Nutritious and delicious, this braised green bean recipe can be made as a side or as a healthy main course.

Dimitra I just wanted to comment and say thank you from the bottom of my heart for making these videos, especially the traditional Greek dishes. I have made so many of these dishes by following your videos these past two years and so many of them taste exactly like how my yiayia used to make them. Unfortunately she passed away before I was mature enough to learn to cook from her but thanks to you I can still learn. When I am cooking these Greek dishes I feel connected to my yaiyia so thank you again for helping me feel close to her. ευχαριστώ

This is absolutely delicious 😋. I do put a pinch of sugar to offset the acidity of the tomatoes whenever I use them. This dish has just a magical combination of ingredients. Well done the Greeks!

This is SO darned good as a vegetarian side, I've made it twice this week. I'm making it again tonight, but I'm going to add a pork steak because I love the sauce so very much, and want a one-pot meal.

You have the BEST RECIPES! Extremely flavorful, yet often healthy. No one ever thinks that they are eating healthy because of the deliciousness! The only problem is that everyone wants seconds and thirds. LOL!

I would use oregano instead of dill and also add a squeeze of lemon.

this looks like such a delicious alternative to the the traditional, HEAVY green bean casserole. I could almost smell that cooking as I watched the video. You better believe, before this year is over, I am going to make and serve this recipe. Thanx, Dimitra ! And Happy Holidays to you.

This is one of my favorite Greek dishes. I order this in my favorite Greek restaurant and they always give me a huge portion because they know I love it. I never thought of this with turkey, but this would be great with it.

I gave this a pre-Thanksgiving test drive last night and it is so delicious! I was doubtful about the feta cheese because I've not been a big fan in the past. But the feta cheese crumbled on top really made this dish extra special. My hubby really raved about it. I think I just wasn't getting good quality feta in the past. Anyway, this dish is a winner and will definitely be on the Thanksgiving table this year and probably for many years to come.

Hello Dimitra...if I doubled this recipe what do you suggest I do with the tomatoes and added water? Do I double the tomatoes and water as well or will that create too much liquid? Thank you! I so appreciate your recipes. They bring back my childhood days AND I finally get exact measurments, which I have never been able to get from family or friends cooking Greek food!

This recipe is so easy, even men can do it. I should know, I do it sometimes myself! The only difference being I use paprika, instead of red ground pepper, and also I don't add the dill, but I might do one day. It's a very filling dish as well as healthy, and dead cheap too! Total cost is just over a £1 to make a meal for two people (or a double portion meal for one, when I cook for meself!). You can't beat that!

Hi Dimitra....love this dish and we cook it often.....one way I get veggies in my kids. I add chunks of carrots as well but what I dont add is dill...will for sure add it the next time I make it. I also make it with stewing beef for a carnivore meal. I would like to ask about your pot that you cooked the meal in? I love it. Where did you get it if I may ask? Thank you for your beautiful, delicious and nutritious recipes you share with us through your videos.
