I had a chance to talk with Fred after a concert in B-more a while back. I walked up to him and said "you may have not heard this yet, but God just told me to tell you that you need to give me one of your Smith's, take my word for it, he said it." Fred busted out laughing. That's when he told me he had just received a custom 6 string, but he had not had a chance to play it yet. Fred and I both think Smith's are the best basses out there.
I've owned 21 high end basses at one time, but never got a Smith. One bass I had that just was a beast to me was my Warwick thumb 5, it is for sure a balanced bass. For it to lay for me comfortably I had to put a 1.5lb weight on the strap and wingnut. You would understand this if you had or own this bass. My other loves were Tobias killer B and Peavey Cirrus 5 and 6. Roscoe LG 3005. I came out of Detroit too My Dad for some years was the Bassplayer at Greater Grace Temple before Fred started Commissioned he got with my Dad at our house on some Bass lessons etc.. it's funny now. I grew up 4 blocks from the Church on Scheafer and 7mile.
THAT IS SINGLE COIL SOUND guys; that's the thing that makes it so you can hear yourself, but very percussive and not easy to blend; it stands out. Love it. I never play anything without single coils; Jazz Bass or whatever. U can also boost 1000Hz, but it's never quite the same...
Fred is definitely a beast on bass but I think he's walking in his Purpose by doing what he's doing. He's a nasty bass player but think of how many lives his music (not just his playing) has touched or changed
I met Fred in person once, He is a real genuine and down to earth guy. Trying to see him in concert again. If you think he sounds good on cd, wait till you hear him in person
Fred is the man! To be able to sap on a six string and sing at the same time and sing like THAT! Oh yeah.....and he also wrote all the music too.....just saying :0)
I've been listening to Fred Hammond since 2002. My grandparents gave me the Pages of Life CD and DVD, also gave me the Purpose by Design CD and DVD in July 2002 when I was 4 yrs. old
I LOVE THIS, this is one of my favorite gospel songs by them!!!❤️ 😍 🤩!! Fred Hammond & RFC play and sing so good!! Marvin McQuitty is one of my favorite drummers!! ❤😊❤😊
Fred Hammond Is such an Awesome Bass Player !! Does anybody know if these guys Including "F.Hammond'' went to Some Professional Music School,,of some kind..... These Guys just Amaze Me with their Talents, Get Chills listening to 'Fred Hammond' Play Bass... He Is Amazing !! God Bless...............
Yup thats a Ken Smith all right... Looks like a BSR6EG (5 piece neck / 5 piece body).. Most likely Walnut Vanear with Mahogany Core... Quilted Maple Top & Back with Matching Headstock... I certainly love my Ken Smiths :D
Calvin's been with Fred since 2003, about 2 to 3 years before he started playing with Sapp. And besides, they're (Fred, M. Sapp, D. Lawrence, M. Munizzi etc) the ones that are requesting his services. Not the other way around. He's the most sought after drummer that I know of in Gospel. It shows you just how much you can accomplish when you have a great track record. BTW, it's not Calvin's fault that Mcquitty no longer drums for Fred...but Marvin is the truth tho.......
I just learned that Fred Hammond was, or is, a bass player. He is a SERIOUS player!!! Goodness! He looks the happiest playing that instrument!!! Nice!

The midrange on that bass is insane. But I'm sure that's the tone Fred was aiming for at the time. Pure anointing and genius.
love the ken smith and peavey cirrus.

It cuts through the mix and provides more definition to his lines and runs
