"Lazy" is an offensive and discriminatory term which imposes the false and theologically Protestant-based ideology that some levels of activity are preferable to others. It has historically been used to discriminate against the disabled and mentally ill, and I wish you wouldn't perpetuate such harmful language.

@@HansWurst1569 Let's find out who knows history....
"The Protestant Reformation began in Wittenberg, Germany, on October 31, 1517, when Martin Luther published a document he called Disputation on the Power of Indulgences, or 95 Theses"
Now, the etymology of the word "lazy"
      "lazy (adj.)
1540s, laysy, of persons, "averse to labor, action, or effort," a word of unknown origin. Skeat is responsible for the prevailing modern view that it probably comes from Low German, from a source such as Middle Low German"
The word was created ~25 years after the formation of Protestantism, in the same region.
So, who doesn't know their history?

    • @HansWurst1569
      @HansWurst1569 10 месяцев назад +3

@@Valchrist1313 That is such a stupid connection, and its also not even true. I’m from the Netherlands, a calvinist country from origin, and we have a word for lazy which is lui.
Emytology for the Dutch word (again a protestant country)
From Middle Dutch loy, from Proto-Germanic *luja-. further etymology unsure. May be cognate with the Old Norse adjective lúinn (“exhausted”). Perhaps from Proto-Indo-European *lewH- (“to cut off, separate, free”), source of Proto-Germanic *lausaz, Albanian lirë.[1]
Yet its funny how that word, in a protestant country like the Netherlands, isnt used as a derogatory term? And it never was even associated with people with a disability?
Also even en German it doesnt have the same connotation.
Weirdly, your description of the word has 1540s in it and that seems to be your evidence…. your sole evidence is that because some dictionairy puts an age for a non-english word in a certain time it MUST be because of other things happening around that time.
      Corrolation doesnt always mean causation.
On top of that in your own description of the word it doesnt even mention anything about pointing out disabilities or anything. That is just your own interpretation. Again in the original German or Germannic languages this word never ment that. And even in English its never associated with your description of it being a derogatory term for disabled people.
The bullshit you’re saying gets even worse if you think that a word can change meaning in a period of 500+/- years.

    • @wcs9582
      @wcs9582 10 месяцев назад +28

I feel like part of the reason its so sad is because we've really focused on a small amt of dwarves in this entire series. Whenever a dwarf dies to a forgotten beast or invasion or something has kids, I check the kid and I ususally see that they have aunts, uncles, cousins, etc to support them and I know they'll be alright. Here, she just has a single dad and a few of his friends. It's a much bigger loss, especially considering how close they all were and how important she was to the fortress.

P.s. i was also devastated when i saw the drawing of wisps remaining hand being half cut off flash across the screen, she deserved better. Ive had crippled dwarfs before, and the fact youve kept wisp alive (and not completely insane) for 8 years means your a better dwarf than i lol

I like the idea of the dwarves losing that idea of monster hunting as being something fun or full of glory, but rather, as something very dangerous that is to be avoided. They were being constantly atacked by forgoteen beasts and lost their friend to one, it would make sense for then to lose that desire for battle.
It would also make sense that a loss would make them desire more people to come to the fortress, as a way to fill the void left by Tiny.

This is kind of why I like Krugg's videos. He digs into the mechanics and turns them into a world, looks for the patterns and says, "Let's celebrate that." I don't think I've ever been more sad for a bunch of 1s and 0s, but I also love the enthusiasm of "Well, this also makes the story more interesting." I play Rimworld rather that Dwarf Fortress, but the idea is the same. It's easy to get into a comfortable stagnation and lose out on a richer story by letting both the good and bad be part of the tapestry of the experience. To go, "Well, that was a beloved character and while I'm sad they won't be joining us, their history is still part of this world."
I also empathize with the "hold my temples and think for a moment, this game mechanic doesn't make sense narratively but let's figure it out."

    Holy crap. What a turn...
Poor Tinny. She didn't deserve that. What a way for a forgotten beast to be remembered, the scars they inflict. May she find peace.
I think it was a good choice to have the time skip, narratively speaking. A lot of the time when these playthroughs have a major death in them, there's an immediate drop in the dwarves' moods and some of them don't bounce back from that, and when there's more than plenty of dwarves to manage, usually things can spiral out of hand and get bad. So you want to see how things play out before continuing the series, if it's possible with a small squad.
So it seems the team's now effectively out two members because of Wisp losing her arms, too. That's also terrible. But maybe in the coming years that dwarven child will grow into an even more productive member of the community she was born into? With a legacy Tinny left behind, that might be challenging to live up to.
But yeah, hell of a way for a Season 2 to kick off. Best of luck.

I like that the change of leadership in the fortress changed everything. It gives so much more weight to the tragedy. As if everyone had lost their purpouse... or forgot what they were there for. No longer beast-slaying warriors, no longer pursuing glory through battle as they once had. It's as if when Tinny passed away, everyone's dreams of glory went with her.

I’m interested to see all the new faces visiting Spearcavern soon! Though, I must say, I am also interested in the idea of some new faces also. Especially now we are missing two key warriors. Not too many mind you.

Tavern will certainly bring in a variety of types, though. Perhaps not a variety of professions. I wonder if it wouldn't also help to say, build a small general purpose temple or a library.

I REALLLY love the way you wrote and presented the theology of Idek in this one. You did an amazing job coming up with a good lore around a Diety of art and death. And parts of it like the idea of the souls of the dead beings used to craft the artwork that is the world itself is both incredibly cool but also fits with a Dwarf Fortress setting so very well!!

I knew things would get interesting when someone would die, but didnt expect it’d get THIS interesting, with a timeskip and everything. Also, the hilarity of how hard a single death hits here compared to how expendable people think dwarves usually are

The current states of Pop and Wisp compared to Crab and Boggy give the impresion that later two dwarves have been able to maintain thier mental well being owing to romance with Queen Bee.

    Random thoughts
    1. Ye df really needs some extra accessibility stuff, I mean, they did had prosthetics in medieval times
    2. The Crab scratches are his claws
    3. For sure open the fortress to exceptional dwarves and their families, also orphans without parents

Honestly, for the one who has no ability to grasp, we should do a vote. If we should full, heal them, and say it was an act of mercy from the gods. If the community decides to go with it.

Have you ever considered integrating mods? Because Wisp situation is bs. Maybe you can integrate a mod for prosthetics or something of that sort, maybe make a poll. It is understandable if you do not wanna do that, but man… I loved concept of Wisp being one handed beast slayer

I want you to know that I put off watching this episode for a full month. Because I've been reading the comments on every episode of this series so far. Because I knew that somehow, a moment like this was always going to arrive. Somehow, one of them would die. And god damn, but your eulogy for Tinny *still* made me bawl. Well done. Thank you as always for the amazing work you do.

These are always such a joy and made even better by listening to your proccess afterwards, I think the way you handled everything, the issues with not being able to grasp, having someone die 'off screen', the time jump, was amazing and really narratively fulilling. Thank you as always!

You are an AMAZING storyteller. We love your channel, and wait eagerly for the next video. This week we were looking for something to watch and I was like " I know what we can watch, Kruggsmash is always entertaining". Little did I know I would be reduced to tears 💔🥺😭....Tinny was my favorite and my favorite drawing you did of her was the facepalming one ( think I identified with her lol) I was in shock at what happened, and I usually am not a fan of timeskips because they're usually not correctly done, but I loved this one. Looking forward to seeing the story progress with addition of new dwarves.
