I have driven these roads and they are really so amazing... the Vanquish is definitely at home.... you guys you selected some scenic roads for sure. nice video!
I love the Hocking hills, what a great place to take a nice car and get a cabin for the weekend.
00:17 HAND BUILT IN ENGLAND
Well I'd get a Ferrari as my sports car, a DB9 or DBS as GT, and then a more ordinary daily driver.
I have driven this road and the video does not really show how narrow it is or just how much elevation change there is. That was moving at a really good clip.
Hocking is BEUTIFUL!!! Trust me Ive been there
Hocking is what I call
"No Prius Allowed
Only Supercars
Sure it's a beautiful car, but for WELL over $250,000, it better be! Give me the new Jaguar F Series for $70,000, with similar looks, and also VERY fast.
Similar looks? Buahahahaha
Stefano M. I've seen both at a car show, and seeing as both car companies were also owned by the same corporation, it stands to reason that they would share similar bones.
Stefano M.: And that's funny because . . . ? The cars, of course, do share a lot of design elements. The rear haunches, lower side surfacing, hood and side scoops and the basic proportions are all similar. The Vanquish was heavily influenced (and shared architecture and most of its running gear and components) with the DB9. The DB9 and the F-Type were designed by the same man - Ian Callum - so its makes sense that the cars would share common values.
PS - I used to own a DB9 Volante and now have an F-Type V8 S Convertible and the resemblance is obvious.
He's a good driver. He drives like someone lented him a 330.000 car
Just amazing, and it has been a great idea to let us just admire the sound amd the driving experience for a bit
Awesome video, just pure driving. Please more of this!
9:18 Grandma Faye's haha last time I was down in Hocking Hills i saw a honda Oddessy slammed on 18x9.5" volks there, I think he was trying this stuff out with a carseat in the back! haha
Aston just signed a co-op deal with Merc, AMG will now be helping Aston with R&D with engines and possibly transmissions. I think it will be a fruitful relationship. I know AMG can get more power in the same displacement and I hope they get rid of that horrible automatic, if you dont have a stick, at least throw in the best dual clutch PDK you can get your hands on, Aston money is real money and I would expect them to do away with that clunky piece they got in the car. Hunting for gears=lost
Maybe if Aston had any R&D money left they could come up with a better gearbox. Or at least use a better one from, say, Getrag. Both the SLS AMG and 458 Italia use the SAME set-up. So I'm wondering what's stopping Aston? I'm actually not sure which is why I won't jump to any conclusions. But it's just a little annoying how Aston continues to use some archaic technology. Some tech they've only recently stopped using *cough* Volvo sat-nav *cough*.
That's exactly what I was thinking during the whole clip. Those awful noises on kickdown or upshifts just don't match the beautiful 50's racecar sound. Plus the autobox seemed it couldn't make up its mind at times, nervously shifting up and down. Droping one gear, then realising it ain't enough and dropping another.
I wonder when Aston will come up with a dual clutch, with them not being backed by a huge corporation and all. Would suit the car mutch better, imo.
Well I guess you could do all the 2013-14 models is what I meant idk y I put the first year they made the new one stuff happens but yes I'd really appreciate those T-shirts love you show if you want a new school guy with old school flavor hit me up cars are my passion would love to give this thing a go been a dream of mine since for as long as I could remember if not ill just keep buying em one by one!!!! lol
Too bad there isn't a engine comparison video like this between a 2010 m5 v10 and a 2011 m5 v8 TT....I haven't seen any videos at all really similar to this one on the Audi S6 or Rs6 for that matter...if you could get a white one please lol!! I honestly have not seen a single in depth video at all of Mercedes GL63 or ML63 which are amazing cars...say compare them too BMW X5M or X6M..or perhaps Audi Q7 V12 or Porsche Cayenne Turbo...or for shits Jeep SRT-8 ...Just send me some T-Shirts :)
BRAVO! Excellent filming and audio! This is the best example ever of "car porn". No talking, no BS, just that sweet ass exhaust! A very nice change of pace from the usual boring narrative about facts you can read anywhere. I"m going to record that beast of an exhaust sound and replay it in my Subaru everywhere I go! (Until my wife makes me quit)
The downshifting sound's crap to me. When there was manual gearbox, guys nearly always did heel&toe shifting, this was much more beautifull to hear and even to do than any fucking 1 nanosecond time shifting gearbox.
Sooo sad that the astons have a great sound today.
Well, the gearbox seems to match the chassis xD
Was this the v-8 it didn't sound like the v-12 I had mine was 2 years older... But it could very well be the mixture of outside wind noise and interior sound deadening ....but at certain points it does sound like the 12 get it up to 3750 and slowly accelerate to redline ahhh the sweet sweet sound !!!!
you don't get the point of this car! The point is a grand tourer. It isn't meant to be a hardcore sportscar like the R8! The R8 is about getting to you'r destination fast. The Astons are so you arrive in style! This car is to go to some mountain roads and enjoy the view when you get there.
Love the car, love the sound of the engine, but I now hate even more the blasted sound of automatic transmissions. The sudden and unnatural timbre shift as it changes gears, might as well be a 1980's secretary's Mustang! Give me a manual!
Don't worry, just because it a standard transmission isn't on the options list doesn't mean they won't do it for you. They did retrofits in the last Vanquish. Aston is a very accommodating company if you have the money.
i have the privilege of living near these roads, and i have to say, it seemed like you held back a bit for the cameras. anyways, great video, and thanks for showing off the beauty southern ohio has to offer.
Hmm...so this loop is 29 miles from my hometown. Better make a lap myself!
Hmm almost looks as good as the frs and brz it looks like its fast but wounded if you can actually use any of it in every day life nice but I think I will save my 50.000 and just drive its twin
Interesting how the classic, European car's exhaust note is gone. In it's place is the same burble and pop of old American Muscle Cars. Except for a few remaining exotics, I miss those days.
I gotta say man, Aston Martin V12's are my favorite. Lamborghini and Ferrari V12's sound great too but theres something about the Aston V12 that gets me way more excited. Sick video, more like this please!
i think a R8 would be more fun too. aston call the vanquish a grand tourer because they can't compete with the other in the horsepower game. this car should have at least 600hp. you know i'm right
The automatic absolutely kills this video, which I think has a place as a supplement to another review. Just put it in tiptronic mode. The surging/downshifting at odd times really sucks.
what a beauty of video footage! Tnx for this eleven minutes of engine revs and no talk! Speec is usless with a car like that btw, its an Aston Martin - Period. Well done, well done!
I live in Ohio too, but I'm in more of the southern part so I live by some really nice country roads. Not to mention I get to drive them in my moms RX-8, not an Aston but still fun.
Mine was also a convertible too so that could have a massive advantage when listening to that beatiful noise coming out those quad tips :) black on black/white black top ;)
makes me miss upstate western ny; those country roads between buffalo and roachester from the ny/pa border on the south up to lake ontario on the north. great empty roads.
This car does sound really American but it was till '06, i love it anyhow but
the jaguar xkr-s is still my live with its growl an octave or two lower than the Aston's
you can have a manual in it, its not a "standart feature" but aston will do pretty much anything you want to the car. They can give a brand new manual gearbox even to the old Vanquish, which they regularily do. The only limitation of what you can adjust or change on your Aston is your pocket.
On come on, first people get mad BC the review won't shut up and they want to hear the car. And when they do it its a travesty.
Some people can't be pleased.
I just have to say, that the thing you did with the sound is just fantastic, every supercar video should have long parts just with the engine sound, like this one
The car is awesome. The sound is awesome. But stop telling everyone about the fantastic roads in southern Ohio. They all stink. Nothing but pot holes and 25 mph. Nothing to see here... Move along...
Not very interesting, would like to see better programming... It seems as if all of the automotive channels are struggling for content.
Being somewhat near this area....how long did you guys hold on to this video? It's July. This looks like the first week of March.
Dear Car and Driver..... More videos PLEASE!... Loved this one btw the driver was using the paddle and the cars automatic shifter.
that motor would raise Cochlear implant stocks...liek a flight line engine goodness.
c'mon C&Driver where is MrCsere?
More 'underbelly' videos
you guys are well off the pace of the other youtube-video-magazines
A great car in search of a great transmission. If it's going to be an automatic, at least make it a good one or a dct.
Hocking Hills is an awesome place to drive. The twists and hills are fun even if you don't have an awesome car like this.
he is just showing the car and the sound. what do you want he do to? 120 mph while drifting? this is a public road.

Why, oh why, doesn't Aston Martin come up with a good dual clutch transmission. That automatic sounds terrible.
You've never driven a gt500, I have. It can't corner, gets 9 mpg, and rides like a horse cart. Facts. I win.
i dont really like the steering wheel, i think it should have more metalic details, looking more sofisticated
That car sounds beautiful but shifts sounds slow.
I wonder how much it cost to close the road for that run?
Route 664 just north of Logan. There are 7 state parks with gorges and caves. Awesome place for a weekend.
Word, drop some acid and walk the triangle from park to park! Rose Lake has trout and monster bass, also.
Well, better audio would be nice... Not some turd recording from a Go-Pro which is renown for turd quality.
@Car and Driver Magazine when you get the new 2014 C7 to drive can you please do a video like this please?
was lookin forward to this hoping Csaba would be reviewing...first long video in a while, what a waste
I love V12 Astons but that's one slow automatic transmission. A proper 6 spd would've been more fun
Fabulous sound but dude is unable to drive properly. Looks like some hesitative and clumsy brat.
i wonder if the v12 vantages manual would work in this, the last ever production manual v12 car
This a car and driver video that did not make me want to gouge out my eyeballs. Solid work boys.
Back roads..Hmm.. I wonder if they have any deer there?, that could have been expensive! HA!
boy the driver sits way too far away from the steering wheel !! clearly no professional !
Hi, guessing this is the 6 speed ZF, not 8, correct?
The driver has never driven a sport car, GT or Supercar (He doesn't know how to Drive !)
This video would be so much better if he talked about the car a little as he was driving
can someone please tell me the road they are driving on?? I would reallly love to know!
there are some pretty underated roads in ohio. none of which are near me in columbus :(
Love this car... but I just can't get past that little wing on the back. I like the older tails.
Refreshingly free of chatter and an otherwise boring narrator. Just the drive. Thanks for this!!
Nice car BUT would I spent 275+k on it? ..No,I would be looking at Ferrari's then..
Vanquish never came as an manual. Although the DBS, it's real predecessor, was manual only.
sweet car, driver sucks. Car and Driver needs to hire ME!!! Contact for my resume
Even if I had the money, it would be so difficult to justify this incredible car.
Ti sounds like a very old school automatic compared to these days dual clutches
Not a single word from the driver about the car... thanks for wasting my time.
No commentary or opinion of the drive? I could just have watched a tree grow
*Yawn. Switched off before the 3min mark. Back to Evo / Drive / Motor Trend...
thats the lens distortion -_-
Perfect video! No talking, no opinions just the car its music and the road.
love this video. no bullshit comments, just pure engine.
Anyone else realize that Ford jacked that grill and put it on the fusion?
My God...this engine makes a noise very seductive...is thought provoking.
you dont want to crash a car that cost more then what you make in 5 years
That thing makes an awesome sound, to bad about the automatic trans.
what ever happened to car and driver abroad with jethro boddington?
sometime's just listening to a masterpiece is all you need
anyone else hate that stupid Buick commercial?? anything but that!
So, you discovered that an Aston Martin can cruise? Good to know.
Such a beautiful sound - KILLED by the automatic.
British cars have always had great looks and great performance.
The DBS was not manual only. There was an option for automatic.
perfect video, all you need to do is let the car do the talking
why no cool outside shots other than from the cameras on the car? :/
Something like this needs a DCT not just a sport automatic.
No cops? Did a nice upfront donation work to keep them away?
like the way he drives! cause he's so familiar with the road
It would be nice if you could bring an F12 to the same road.
i don't think it comes with a manual, only the old vanquish.
In Australia it cost nearly 500k ....
I grew up riding the school bus on these roads.
