Yes I always though his voice was unique. It seems to come from the back of his throat. I met him when he first joined Adderley Smith Blues Band in 1966 and they played at the Queensberry Pub in Carlton. He replaced singer Fred. I was 17 and he was 18. He left the band 2 years later in 1968 because he was in the 'call up' for national service in the army but he didn't go to Vietnam. His lifelong friend from Adderley Smith Blues Band & The Dingoes, Kerry Tolhurst ( famous musician in his own right) was also called up. I met them while walking in the city around that time. When I first heard 'Going On Down to the End of the World' announced as by Broderick Smith on the radio, in 1973, his voice sounded too rich to be caucasian, so I thought he was a negro and not our Brod. Those first 2 singles he did on his own while in the band, Carson (2nd record was 'Yesterday It Rained' ) are the ones I love the most, followed by Faded Roses and My Father's Hands (Lucky to Be An Australian) when he was in Broderick Smith's Big Combo. I was so happy for his success. I never imagined he'd become famous and well-known and respected in the music industry. I found him to be intelligent, well-spoken and a gentleman, not to mention good looking. I met his first wife Ann in the early days, who had a son to him and his second wife (don't remember her name) by accident much later in his career, when Brod. was performing at the Esplanade. She also gave him a son.

Just love Mal's sensitive guitar playing, and Brod's sensational voice. What a band! First saw Broderick Smith leading the Dingoes when they played one night at UNE, Armidale, NSW. Just another band tucked away in a corner of the room. Who would have guessed where life would take them. Australian Rock Royalty.

    Fuck! How good was that.
Incredible band & Broderick with his wonderful voice.
He & Glenn Shorrock would have to possess the best rock voices in Aussie.
Even Van Morrison whom i adore would love this version.
I saw Broderick live in the 60's at The Troubador in Carlton & he was fantatic.
He even sang my request of " Leah " ,a Roy Orbison song.
    Amazing sounds & so,so enjoyable ---THANKS !

Far fking out! Best version ever. Ever! Bloody lucky to have moved to Melb late 70s, but then maybe they moved to Sydney? Could be wrong. Caught them at the Central, maybe the Station Hotel. The memorial concert. Lucky me🙏

What a great version by one of Aussie & the world's best male vocalists.
Had the joy of seeing Broderick in the 60's live at The Troubadour in Carlton,i think.
He was fantastic & sang my request of " Leah " & he said that this song was a " Ball Burster "--what great memories.

Glad this appears on my you tube music videos because now I remember how good this guy was and his band complimented his vocal ability I'm pretty sure broderick smith had exposure on countdown and with so many great bands around the time being commercial was never his selling point it was always the music

OM-GEE. Just found out sadly that Broderick Smith passed away last month in April 2023. What a bloody legend! I saw him and the Flaming Hands at (the now demolished) Cloudland in Brisbane circa 1981? Still have my entry ticket somewhere. They were both Support Acts for the amazing Australian Crawl. Took photos with my old skinny camera. A bit grainy, but still MY Memories. My cousins even bought me his Album after the concert. Thanks for the memories my friend, Rocker Broderick ❤

@MalThorgan Hi Mal Mal Eastick was a member of yet another legendary Aussie band from the 70's STARS Something worth watching is a memorial concert for Andy Durant (a member of STARS). Mal plays throughout and Brod Smith sings an incredible 'Ocean Deep'

Totally uncool, now Broderick, but back then, no-one batted an eyelid.

Uploaded 10 years ago probably on a slow connection after being transferred from a 30 year old 4th generation copy VHS video tape found in a mouldy box in the garage after Uncle Reg died. So 1080p will achieve exactly what?
