This process is called ELECTROLYSIS
Here, it is done my tap water. But the most common one is with copper sulphate, and the pencils act as electrodes.
No
You replied to your own comment ?
What idiot does that ?
I was always under the presumption that electrolysis of water with a dash of salt was the main experiment taught?
Didn't realize that people were making copper metal and sulphuric acid more often then not!
Not a cost effective way of producing either metal or acid nor a cost effective way of demonstrating the reaction imo

Тех кто в школе не учился, удивляет все вокруг.😂
...vero, sono d'accordo.
Меня больше удивил процесс самого электролиза при практически нулевой плотности тока.

Да да да, без физики в школе в мире очень много маги🤣🤣🤣

Electrolysis
You should make space for the collection of hydrogen and oxygen and also add electrolyte such as sulphuric acid to increase ionisation of O2 ang H2
A nerd i c
If that is tapwater it would more likely be Cl ions in the water that forms chlorine gas.
You just need. Water, Salt and electricity to do that😂
@@nicoterblanche3181 no, its hydrogen. Elementary school basics
@@nicoterblanche3181 Yes chlorinated water would have Cl- ions, but according to the electrochemical series, at the anode OH- will be preferentially discharged(giving rise to O2) instead of Cl-, so Chlorine really can't be evolved here
As graphite is expensive and too soft to be pure in pencil, the lead is made up of graphite and clay, the more the percentage of graphite, the more electricity it will conduct
Also ain't to expensive!
Get some carbon zinc batteries C or D variants and pull the carbon rod out of the center! Also keep the black moist powder as its manganese dioxide and some ammonium chloride and keep the inner metal sheet (just under the metal casing)(sometimes can be the metal casing in 6v lantern packs) as it's pure zinc!
Are u pdhaku ?? 😌

Best thing to use is carbon rods from the used cells
Grafite is good conductor of electricity
He has done electrolysis by taking pencils as anode and cathode

WHOA 🤯😝so cool😋
This is called “electrolisis”, and the bubbles are hydrogen in the positive pole and oxigen in the negative pole
It's electrolysis
Browns gas. Bang and your hearing is gone (with much of the room)
Hydrogen bubbles get accumulated in cathode terminal, and I'm 99% sure cathode is negative
So hydrogen gets accumulated in negative pole right?
@@eddienoctus7947 correct
Na, hydrogen is formed at the negative pole
This process is called electrolysis where oxygen ion and hidrogen ion is seperated by dilute sulphuric acid.

You'll study about electrolysis refining with silver nitrate in your higher classes
Super knoledge
@@sharonjoe7535 I too know electro refining bro
Not any strength of sulphuric acid. The electrical charge is breaking the bonds in the water molecules freeing the hydrogen and oxygen atoms. You were close.
You done well. I'm looking forward to see the video of converting graphite to diamond. Extra marks for Apsara😂

Thanks ,it's nice way to boil water, very useful in winter
Amazing electrolysis experiment, thanks for sharing.
Congratulations
So cool trick
Graphite in the pencil lead is a good conductor of electricity.
Not quite good, it's used in resistors, you can literally apply current to a graphite rod and watch the reduction in voltage through it if you placed a bulb or LED in series, and by lowering the amount of graphite is in circuit the bulb will dim.
@@dennis8196 can call it semi good
@@Drsahab-md5zz lol ok. Best compromise.
Sure is…!
I thought the pencils would start to write by themselves…

These two pencils are actually one for hydrogen and the other one is for oxygen it ionizes water to h2 and 0

Electrolysis of water 💧
H2O is turning into H+ ions and OH- ions and after that 2(OH-)+2(OH-)=2H2O + O2 (at cathode)
And
H+H =H2(at anode)
Hi nerd
in simple words it's an electrolytic cell
H2 gas is liberated in cathode( + ve ) and o2 in anode(-ve)
I'd call you a nerd, but even I know you got your shit wrong, open your chemistry book kid.
First step is ionization
H+ and OH- are formed as an intermediatory step...
Then the final step where the bonds break and Hydrogen gas and oxygen gas both are being formed...
Still, I really think that Indians are good in academics.

Why you didn't get shock when you wrapped the wire on the graphite after connecting it with battery ?
Bro it's not ac current It's dc 9volt current it's can't do anything to you
You need a few factors to get electrocuted. 9v is nothing on its own

Hydrogen gas is my assumption.
Ваш комментарий наглядно показывает различие между советской школой и западной.
И эти люди ещё нас учат жить.
Hydrogen...try a separated mesh and a central rod, seal the water off and have a tube as the only escape for the gas. This is how you make a simple hydrogen generator
Wouldn't it produce oxygen as well?
@@TomtheMagician21 (1 year later lol) Yeah, roughly speaking 2(H2O) -> 2(H2) + O2 (there are intermediate steps, but the bubbles are two parts hydrogen gas and one part oxygen gas). The Hydrogen gas will form at the cathode (marked "+" on a battery) and the Oxygen gas will form at the anode.
