As a fellow tech, loved your video. To be honest all I needed to know is if there were screws under the skid/strip, but ended up listening all the way through because I dig your pace and professionalism!! Thanks for the video 😊
Hey thanks much! Dale
I just finished upgrading a neighbor's 2yr old Lenovo Ideapad S145 Laptop. Owner said it was slowing to a crawl w/only 4GB Ram and in Windows 'S' mode. It was pretty easy to remove the back cover w/10 screws; tried to clone the 1TB hard drive - but gave me a hard time, so I fresh installed Win 10 Home to a new 256GB SSD and upgraded to 8GB Ram. Even a regular SSD and more Ram is a great improvement in load times and performance. Those old mechanical hard drives really slow things down, esp. when they have bad sectors; the PC manufacturers also need to stop shipping machines w/ 4GB Ram if they want to run Win 10 /11 efficiently. Win 10 can barely get out of it's own way w/ 4GB Ram. I almost talked owner into installing Linux Mint or Zorin, but they wouldn't budge even though all PC activity was online.
A double bill today! Nice work Dale.
hey i send my love from south africa!!!!!
Fantastically helpful. There are great people on RUclips and you are one of them. Have just done the identical thing to an identical laptop and it worked.
Two things of note to me:
1. SSD won’t show in File Manager until you go to Systems > Storage > Advanced options > discs > properties and initialise & format the SSD. That took me time to work out.
2. Good advice to note which case screws go where - there are three different sizes.
I used EaseUS clone software, cost £19/$19 for month’s subscription. Worked a treat.
The difference in speed is astonishing.
Thanks from an old Brit from across the pond.
YAY, new video!!!
She will be pleased with that SSD for sure. Dale, if you're looking for video ideas, I would value one about transitioning from Windows 10 to 11, and maybe showing how 11 is different. I don't know what S Mode is LOL. I have not installed it on anything yet.
Thank you!
Great video!
Great video thanks!
That caddy is what I am looking for.
Good to see that it comes apart easily (I have an Asus Chromebook 17 that is brilliant compared to Windows) as my consumer HP Win laptop has numerous faults and the only way I could see to get it apart was to destroy it! Could you have reformatted the original HD and put it back in, together with the new SSD, to provide somewhere to back up things?
Great video. Thanks for sharing. One question - my ASUS is frustratingly slow during boot and at / after launch of Windows 11. Is this also symptomatic of a faulty HDD? Does the boot process rely on RAM / Boot Firmware rather than HDD? Again many thanks. Mkke
09:29 I don't understand why you don't need to reinstall Windows when you install a new SSD in your laptop? Where is the Windows store in the laptop? Thanks.
he cloned the hdd to the new ssd
Cool, DEC2022 and they are on sale at best buy for cheap... pop in a new NVMe stick and it's good.
I've been fighting with one of those, trying to add a Toshiba thnsn5512gpuk m.2 ssd and we cannot get the vivo to even see that it is there.
At one point my boss managed to do something that briefly caused it to see something, then it corrected the problems it found and the SSD disappeared.
This seems to happen whether the HDD is in or out, and we usually cannot even get the BIOS to show a menu item for NVME
You didn't even seem to need to go into the BIOS.
Hi I have the same laptop as we want to up the ram now we can take the screws out but there is 2 that are different either side the middle screws one each side is different to the rest so we can't open it what screw driver will I need for the outer two screwes😊
Hey man how’s it going.. can you tell me how to get it out of out of S mode?
Hi, your video is very good, can you give me the link of the SSD you used for that laptop, I don't want to be wrong... thanks in advance.
I'm adding a 1TB N.2 drive, and will be cloning the HDD onto it and using the HDD as a second HD (on-board storage). I'm wondering how I might choose which HD to boot, I'm assuming it can be done through the BIOS?
I love your dog he is like Doge coin
Do you have a video of you replacing hard drive ?
I just watched your video (from 2 years ago) on Asus Vivo Book 17 SJ712. I have this computer and cant seem to find anything compatable for a docking station. ASUS CS said you cant connect one and it made me feel like I purchased the wrong computer. Can you provide me some info to verify if he was correct or incorrect and lead me in the direction of a docking station. Also thank you for the video- very informative.
why is there even a harddrive version being sold. i have one with a ryzen 7 and an nvme ssd ofcourse not to mention the 1080p screen.
So I tried this exact same process. Pulled the HDD. Cloned it to the m.2 drive, the laptop says the m.2 is an inaccessible boot device
I have same laptop and same WD ssd , how can I clone that slow Sata drive to ssd with only having the laptop to work with. When I'm finished I'm gonna put a different sata 2 gb back in it , its a bit faster than that stock crap. Can you give me any help?
Maybe it's a stupid question, but, is it possible to upgrade/replace the GPU to this laptop? I got the same model but I'm not sure if that's possible. I just want to improve it
I could seek a technical expert to do it for me, it can't even run very powerful video games, this video will help and my Asus is a x712e, and I think the method is the same?
can i upgrade my memmory and ram on my idea pad 3 14alc6 if so do u no how much i can go and any suggestions on what to put in any help would be much appreciated thanks and love your vids
Hi man! I have got the X712EA model, so i cant upgrade more than 20gb of ram? How can i make it more faster?
If you have 4gb on board ram, and one expansion slot, 20gb is max
Friend, for God's sake, could you make a video testing Crystaldiskmark on this laptop and be able to see how much speed it marks you? Because I have not been able to buy one because of that doubt, since there is a lot of confusion on the net, and there is no content on this subject in vivobook s17 Laptops, could you help me please!?
Need help my display style changed after update in lenovo ideapad 3 ryzen 5
Hello, just purchased the X712JA model on sale for $347. Lol
I was wondering, which SSD would go for/would work great?
"Samsung - 970 EVO Plus 1TB Internal SSD PCIe Gen 3 x4 NVMe" Or
"Samsung - 980 PRO 1TB Internal Gaming SSD PCIe Gen 4 x4 NVMe"?
Also, what the max RAM that this computer can take??
I haven't had a computer in ages. So I'm starting to research little by little. This is the first video I come across for this computer.
Thank you!
both work.
@@SimonBauer7 yeah, I figured it out
@@hazetrinity66 how's the laptop now that you've changed to the SSD?
@@c.d.j300 pretty fast! Huge difference. When I turn it on, it boots up in literally 2 seconds. No lag, works great. I ended up buying the 980 pro, and upgraded my ram. Comouter now says I have 20gb of ram. I thought limit was 18 or 16, can't remember. I got the ram from "drive solution", just Google it. Its a Kingston. I was looking for a Samsung, but this was the only option around. Its really simple to do.
If you buy the 980 pro, you can go to the websites samsumg has so you can download the software to copy all of your data at no additional cost. I recommend it.
Its the only reason I bought the laptop again. I had purchased it before at bestbuy, but when it was on sale for $630, but returned it. It was too slow and lagged a lot. Then I saw it again on sale for $350. So I researched if there were upgrades for it and if it was worth it. Seemed like a good deal overall, so I pulled the trigger. Lol

Almost every laptop now that has a slot for the M.2 should be immediately updated, junk the old 5400rpm.
Hello crack.
The RAM can be Upgrade to 16GB???
Surprized they still make laptops with mechanical HDs. Bad service from Best Buy.
Just so people know, my vivobook had additional screws hidden under the rear rubber feet.
i see you have so many vids and so many people with questions ! wow ! i must be lucky you answered me ! so i ll check my notifications and hope for an answer ! meanwhile i ll phone the place who fixed my HP and ask em how much they give me for my asus the way it is now all they need to do is install the windows 10 ! or whatever they want at this point it wont be my problem ! LoL have a nice day !
hi ! i m not a geek at all i m a retired trucker and want to fix my vivobook asus 2019 cheap model ! i thought that changing the hard drive would fix the problem so i did replaced it by a kingston ssd 240 gb and it say the same thing as before ! on the left top on screen it say ASUS bios utility-ez mode ! then it s System: bios version 314+ intel pentium silver n5000 cpu
+ total memory: 8192 mb + intel (r) uhd graphics 605 + serial # then it say USB Port N/A ok ? then i see the cpu fan turning at 1085 rpm battery power building up now at 37 % Access level : User and yes that s all i see ! what should i do with that ! ? i want to fix and sell it ! i need money ! LoL i m broke ! i have a byer waiting ! can you reply please ?🙄
Sounds like it needs a clean install of Windows. That's why it's booting into the bios. There is no bootable drive.
@@CadillacComputerCenter great awesome bro ! thanks for the fast answer ! now i will learn how to clone windows 10 in my HP laptop using a lyreco 4gb usb key ! hope it s gonna work ! do you have a video instructing how to enter my windows on the usb ? and since the asus say usb port n/a how the heck that can work ! ? gezz ! more complicated than i thought ! LoL 🤔
