- Vietnam Requiem was a 1982 ABC News Closeup television documentary directed by Bill Couturié and Jonas McCord and photographed by Ted Haimes. It is about the post-traumatic stress disorder suffered by veterans. The film comprises interviews with five Vietnam War veterans then in prison for crimes committed after discharge, inter-cut with news footage from the time of the war, with narration by Peter Thomas.
Paul Hardcastle’s 19 brought me here
I found out the source of those samples while listening to an old American Top 40 recently. That brought me here.
3:30 In 1965 Vietnam seemed like just another foreign war
but it wasn't
It was different in many ways, and so were those who did the fighting
In World War II the average age of the combat soldier was 26
In Vietnam he was 19
In inininininin Vietnam he was 19
In inininininin Vietnam he was 19
In inininininin Vietnam he was 19
n n n n nineteen
Brought me here, too.
I see a small video about the making of Paul Hardcastle's 19, he talked about some Vietnam documentary so had to hunt it down!
Me too
As somebody else said before, Song 19 from Paul Hardcastle brought me here. I am from Chile I am 53 years old, teacher of english and I grew up with this song. I have watched many films and documentaries about Vietnam war and I keep the highest respect for American victims due to this unwanted and compulsory participation. Many of them forgotten. Just like John Rambo said in the first film something like this : " I was encharged of expensive machines, drove sophisticated vehicles and now , back in my country I can't even find a job washing cars"
Sad but true.
I think , Stallone did it great cause he made Americans try to respect and understand Vietnam vets.
My humble opinion
Thank you for posting. My dad served in Vietnam with the US Army. The way I see it we don’t owe the Vietnam veterans a thank you, we owe those poor guys an apology!
An apology indeed is what we owe these guys, each time I see one of them, I tell them: though I wasn't born here nor I am originally from the states, I am sorry for how you were treated and you guys rule, thanks for your service and for everything you guys did.
Peter Thomas did the narration and I can't think of anyone better. What a voice for this.
Yes 19 😎❤️peace to those who fought ❤️
I wonder how he felt as a World War II vet.I think he served in the Hurtgen Forest and the Battle of the Bulge
I'm more famliar with hearing him in Forensic Files
"All those who remember the war, they won't forget what they've seen. Destruction... Of men in their prime... Whose average age was 19."
dededede.. dede.. deDESTRUCTION.
Why, what did we do it for, was it worth it....
Ni-Ni-Ni-Ni-Nineteen
My father’s best friend was killed around May of 1969. My father was drafted the same year but was fortunate to stay stateside.
"destruction of men in their prime whose average age was nineteen"
dededede-de-dede-destruction.
Was watching a tribute to Peter Thomas, and I had never put two and two together that he was the voice in 19. I had to come find this.
What is the name of the tribute?
I I I I I I In Vietnam he was 19 . Great documentary 'real talk.
It feels so weird not hearing the stuttering from the song.
FINALLY got to see this -- and yet I know nearly every snippet from that announcer's voice by heart!

Great respect from Poland to these poor guys and to you for uploading this video.
Na na na na na nineteen
No one should touch the likes bar as it shall remain Na Na na na na Nineteen!
Gosh, beautiful! Among other things, I finally discovered the sources of those famous samples in Paul Hardcastle's song, back in the eighties!! Thank you for sharing!
First time seeing this. It resonates. I was born in 84 enlisted in 02. Landed in Korea with the Manchus of 2 ID. Then i found myself in Iraq. pcs to Bragg and Got the hell out in 08. These men could have been in my unit by the way they talk their mannerisms. War sucks.
Thank you for your service my man.
Thank you for sharing this documentary. I've been looking for it for many years. So sad to see how all this effects those who've been sent to wars in name of freedom. Hopefully they all find peace someday.
Thanks for posting this, I've been looking for this for sometime. Hopefully it can stay up
So where are these 4 guys in 2020? Can't seem to find anything about any of them online other then being in this documentary & it's interesting that out all the posts no one even asks about or mention the men in the video
Albert Dobbs and Duane Maybee have passed on.
Kenneth Patterson has passed on too
It was an honor to speak to Albert’s Nephew!
Thanks for bringing it back
Let's hope they won't force me to take it down like they did years ago with Apocalypse WWll
@@alnka1974 Some other guy loaded it last year January. After 4 weeks ABC took it down. But he uploaded the whole video. You broke it up in parts; you should be ok.
@@Phan-Xu WOW...I myself have been looking for this one for years, I had to buy it on DVD as I've never seen it, only thing I remember during my elementary school days back home in Baghdad hearing the song 19 and wanted so bad to see the documentary, it's very sad how these guys were treated here when they came back. As for splitting the documentary into 3 parts, I was having problem getting the whole thing in one file 1st, but I got it figured out and thought about re uploading it in one full file but now since you mentioned it I'm going to leave it the way it is with crossed figures.

Vietnam was nineteen….nnnnnnnnineteen
19 broke😢😂❤
Vietnam was a tragedy politicians knew or should have known we should not have been there. There was an opportunity to make money and they took it. I was there 19 months got to know the vietnamese very well both sides. The good thing about today's electronic communication (not the media) computers cell phones etc. Crooked politicians can't hide anymore it is like they are all naked in a showroom window. For all to view so take a good look. Make your judgements accordingly. Good Bless All.
