I thought that I wouldn't have the guts to try another neru song, but Ikasan's cover of this is so incredibly inspiring that I ended up covering it too! I'd been itching to sing this for a good month or two now so as soon as I got home I just sat down and worked on it! I hope you enjoy this too!

This was a great cover! Hard to believe it’s been eight years since this was posted. Back when I was still in highschool I would listen to this song all the time- I related to the sorta hopelessness that comes with teenage adolescences the song talks about. Because, like, for the longest time I just couldn’t conceptualize a future beyond graduation- my only goal up until then was just to scrape by until they handed me my diploma. Yet here I am now, five years later, I survived highschool just to drift around aimlessly through adulthood. Of course it’s not all bad, y’know, I’m more myself than I’ve ever been but it’s surreal to think how much of my life up until now I believed I wouldn’t make it this far.
Anyways sorry for the long comment, this song has a lot of personal meaning to me and I am thankful for you singing it. I hope you have a nice day!

A beautiful cover. SirHamnet puts a lot of emotion into this one and she has an amazing range, to be able to genderbend her voice like that and also sing Rin's much higher part. Cuz I have no clue. I know it's about suicide but besides that no idea.
holy shit this turned into an english essay---- well, I have a lot of feels and appreciation for neru's amazing, amazing song writing so ah, I hope this satisfies your curiosity for this song! I realize there can be variations in interpretation but I think that with the amount of time I spent trying to understand the lyrics I've gotten pretty much the important points :)))
Personally what I get from this song is how society's morals and expectations are hindering the next generation, and driving people's potentials to suicide and thus harming the future. You see in the beginning that, "on the national highway is our closing futures." The national highway here is representative of the state, and the girl who stands on the roof and defies gravity implies that she wants to jump off.
Then you get later in the song, it's talking about "days without a purpose" and such. It sounds like following society's rules makes for a really dull and pointless life, and the characters feel like it's no better than the days they were bullied as children, so it's as if society is bullying them now for refusing to conform. The verse before the final chorus really sets it in; our characters obviously hate the confines the world puts them in, saying that they are isolated because "everyone else holds these morals in such high regard" and as such, "happiness cannot be found." But still, the younger generation is the future of this world, and in the end, it's the "one who didn't listen to anybody" who "will teach the teacher," aka, have the powers in their hands to commit suicide and doom the world of tomorrow. (The pv at this point is so absolutely beautiful with this lyrics and I just cry so much.)
The bridges of the song depict 2 different scenarios where society has driven people to the edge; first you get the girl who "rushed through life," probably feeling that she'd had enough and wanted to get away from what life offered her, and then the man who kept playing the "trash-like pachinko" (a japanese slot machine? from what I know) who "must have had a loving child and wife at some point," and we get the impression that he too succumbed under the pressures of the outside world and crumbled to the state that he is in now.
Finally you have the choruses and really, this is where the meaning is stated in the most clarity - if we kill off our dreams right now, our tomorrow is what will suffer in the end. But our characters, being so fed up with life already, block out this "cry for help" with a "shield of solitude", and, finding that saying this words are useless and boring, want to burn away their "piles of memories" -- in other words, commit suicide.
