Far reaching and coherent, the ambassador's presentation is full of insight and wisdom. Thank you for hosting this speech. Too late to ask Ambassador Freeman but really wish for his opinion on how to bring the UN back to its stated reasons for being. We watch as it is taken over by former and current colonial powers and its "duties" usurped by nato. A great loss if it cannot reclaim its rightful place among nations equally. (My favorite among the changes is to move UN Headquarters to Afghanistan where members may be constantly reminded of their purpose.)

Mr. Freeman is a true professional with great wisdom. His assessments on some of the most difficult geopolitical issues of this era are impressive. In particular, his predictions of the Saudi-China relationship were prophetic.
On the Taiwan issue, I couldn’t agree with him more. He clearly has a deep understanding of the Chinese culture and the temperament of the Chinese people. He’s right that Beijing couldn’t care less how the Taiwan government chooses to govern itself. What’s important is for Taiwan to assert itself as part of China and behaves accordingly. That is to say: expel US military installations, stop being used as a US vassal, support the core interest of Beijing, don’t do anything to upset the stability of the central government.
Chinese are pragmatic and peace-loving people. The last thing we want to see is for Chinese to kill each other. Having said that, every Chinese, all 1.4B, will be ready to sacrifice his/her life to defend Taiwan if it were violated by a foreign power, whether it is the US, Japan or any other nation or nations. Make no mistake about that.

I wish to defer in Am Freeman's assertion of S Korea and Taiwan are thriving democracy, S Korea like Japan is run by oligarchy and Taiwan is a failed democracy ~ just take a look at their political assembly. Fundamentally democracy system since Greeks is a unsuccessful ruling model whereas China's 5K history shows centralised power since Shihuangdi is a unified factor for a nation and civilisation
