My main pellet mix in my Searwood XL is Royal Oak Charcoal and B&B Championship Blend 50/50. Great flavor with that charcoal sting on the taste buds. Also, cutting 50/50 with a more economically priced pellet helps. To me, $17/bag for 20 pounds is getting steep when I can get 40 pounds of B&B or Lumber Jack for $19.99. Really enjoying your content and you even pushed me into a Weber rotisserie purchase. I'm trying to roll with those baskets from Amazon but they're up to $45 a pop. Thanks again!
So we had the charcoal flavor with the RO on wings cooked at high temp too. It is definitely good for that. I mixed with $20 Weber pellets for ribs and the charcoal flavor didn’t come out at the lower temps. I’ll give B&B a shot soon. I like the economy of it too. Awesome man! Glad to have you here! I have to confess that I screwed up on the price of the baskets. For some reason I got $29 stuck in my head when we did the first video of it, but it’s been $45-49 since the beginning. We corrected it in the video description but nonetheless, it was a screwup. It’s still better priced than the $90 Weber basket (which I’m going to order soon to see if it’s really worth double the price).
Thank you for all the Weber Searwood content! Thinking about your various cooks using charcoal pellets. You might get better results with a fast high heat cook. Crank up the temp to get lots of smoke and grill steaks hot and fast. Likely wouldn’t be on par with cooking direct over charcoal but it might get you something more along the lines of what you seek flavour wise. I could be wrong, but from all the content I’ve seen on RUclips about the Searwood, seems it generates less smoke cooking low and slow, unless in smoke boost mode.
Yes indeed. Smokin Pecan is my favorite so far and am planning to add RO to it, plus a few other things, to find the perfect combo! Thanks for checking in!
Do you want some more real wood smoke flavor? Another trick I will do is put a few wood chips, or chunks of hickory are mesquite wood on top of the heat diffuser before i would start up my grill. It's just enough heat to get the wood to smoke. Did this all time on my recteq
Problem with most brands that sell pellets is they don’t disclose the percentage of charcoal or wood species used. For all you know the camp chef has 1% charcoal in it. Some don’t even say what is actually in the bag.
Agreed, however I will say the pellet physically looked like it was 60/40 charcoal to wood, but who knows if that’s just window dressing. There was certainly no charcoal flavor.
Yes! I rinse them off with hot water in the sink to get the easy gunk off and then just stick them in the dishwasher. If they are really, really gunky, I'll soak them in hot water and dish soap for a bit, then rinse, then dishwasher - but I've only had to do that once in many cooks. Just make sure you clear out your dishwasher trap after putting the baskets through a cycle.

@@chiggyvon thanks for watching! Yes, one of our conclusions is that the charcoal pellets produce more smoke with high temp cooking.
Very nice. I should do this exact same thing. Cheers!!!
Cheers brother!
smoken pecan pellets. mixed with royal oak. is a great combo.

Interesting idea. We're going to try a smoke box first soon.
Royal Oak is the best, and they perform flawlessly in my GMG pellet grill
I agree so far!
You should try Cuisinart Premium Cherry Rum BBQ Smoking Pellets. They have one the best start-up smoke smells, and they have a great flavor
Chillomatic back with another great idea!

Question for you.....really like the baskets...how do you get them clean? Are they dishwasher safe?

Higher temp means more smoke from grease burning off not the pellet
Dont think so in this case
The baskets been proven to dry out wings. Why are you using it?
It doesn't for us. They come out amazing. We like them crispy, like they were fried but not.
