This was bar-none the best long form interview I've ever watched. From the well intentioned questions that got away from you, to the extreme detail you researched about your guest; Quality stuff. And to top it off, you're going to start giving Thorin a run for his money on off the cuff quips. Looking forward to more
the section around 21 minutes in, where LS says febiven might be dismissive of his view of the game out of fear really hits the nail on the head i think for why so many players dislike LS and this sort of deep analysis. theres definitely moments where you think you are good at something but then discover there is so much more that you could be doing, and the cognitive dissonance you experience there can make you really uncomfortable and even afraid.
Loved the sophisticated conversation on the nuances of LS' philosophy of the game and giving him room to really air out his theory in detail. Great work.
As a german native who learned english as his 3rd language but would still call himself pretty confident in speaking and understanding it, i still feel like my brain has to go into overdrive to follow some of the conversations being held here. Wich is just such a welcome break from the usual talk in and around the LoL community. Very nice interview
As a native German speaker with English 3rd language as well, I find this pretty easy to listen to. But I listen a lot to LS and I am interested a lot in a esports in general, so I know most of the concepts here. Still freaking awesome to listen to, both the interpersonal interactions and the topics, about Korean and American culture.
It's more Ruddy that I have some trouble understanding, but you're not wrong! It's great to listen about these sorts of topics, especially in a light-hearted manner.@@tomwanders6022
As usual ruddy does a great job being an interviewer and picking LS’ brain but this episode really showed how smart he actually is despite portraying himself as this laidback goofy guy
My brain wants another 2 hours asap, surprisingly no prob tracking the longer-winded questions, even if they contained an analogy or reference I wasn’t familiar with- you at least succinctly described the reference material and got back to the question. And the banter/jokes are gold.
love the interviews man, I feel like you're really changing the eSport intverview game, usually its "hi" "hi" and serious questions, whereas you crack jokes in between and it feels more genuine, and worthwhile to watch even on a 2 hour format
Been waiting for this one. It's always nice to see LS elaborate do long form interviews / videos even if they don't garner a lot of views. Also I find it weird that DonJake proudly associates himself with the founder of many Churches "LS", while Mr.Ruddy still hasn't read the Bible.
All the chess analogies were correct and the engine elo was all correct if anyone was wondering. Also Ruddy seems quite knowledgeable about the topic which I find refreshing.
Who are you ? Why such amazing content hasn't come to me earlier ? Came cause of LS's RT. Spend 20 minutes in your interview and loving it. AMAZING Content thank you so much !
Ruddy helped me understand why I don't really watch LS despite agreeing with his views on the game and liking the guy, it's probably his 'lexicon' and the way he expresses his ideas in the language. He's very sporadic and spontaneous, all the time. It's also hard to listen to what feels like memey inside catchphrases all the time like 'sinning'.
What a brilliant interview. That question at 44:00 was so close to being a banger. But I think you needed to slow down and let it play out naturally. The Dark souls analogy threw it off Sadge But what a great interview
1:22:00 If I'm remembering correctly, LS has said that people should think of draft only in terms of champions and not who is playing the champions. IIRC, he's also said that he dislikes comfort picks, thus players should play the supposedly stronger champion even with less experience with said champion. I've tried to find a yt video of him saying something along those lines, but can't find it. Maybe I heard it on stream where there's no more twitch vods for korea or they got deleted due to dmca music scares.
As a regular watcher of LS i can assure you thats what he is saying when he is going on about draft. His reasoning why comfort picks are stupid is because when a new champ comes out, suddenly the whole world can play it after a single week. So it should be doable for every champion especially for well known old champions.
@@ThatLuckyKill Doesn't he say that when he talks about the theory of drafting he ignores comfort picks, instead of saying comfort picks are stupid? Obviously in a very high pressure situation comfort picks matter a lot.
Can somebody tell me who he is referring to when saying there was only ever one person he didnt want to talk to bc he thought they dont deserve a paltform?
I coached rocket league in a way that went against what was meta at the time, a lot of the things LS has felt i can relate coach/analyst wise. People hear something that is not conventional gameplay and instantly shut it down rather than thinking about it, drove me mad and i stopped coaching now lol
I wondered if the reason the Red deck style is more prevalent is because you are killing your opponent (champions or creatures) and so in their minds people feel like they are being more active and doing more, even maybe winning more through dealing face damage etc. So that makes them feel better as a player than the control player who is waiting for openings, biding time and being less "active" in the game. Similar to how an assassin "hands" player in league is roaming, getting kills etc feels more active and winning because of KD etc which in their mind is more exciting and glamorous than playing a control mage who is farming and scaling for later and controlling the map. I think it may just come down to an ego thing. which strokes the ego more or feels better in the moment? Whatever gets those dopamine receptors going the fastest. I've been a U/B MtG player forever anyway so guess I'm a willing part of the 9%.
@@RuddyCorp Had to represent and let you know I watched all of this mate, even had me watching the UFC muted tonight 👍🏻 Can't wait to see the Neme interview you clearly have cooking yeah boss? 👀
50:48 I'm not sure that's really "playing with hands" Plotting out the first 50 moves from a memorized opening doesn't really fall on "playing with hands."
I don’t know if ppl will see this or get this but ls and Hasanabi kind of remind me of one another in the way that their both preach an unpopular view and defend it vigorously. And they both have this “always on” experience, always having to defend their points perfectly and talking with everyone.
regarding the proportion of people who would play control, I think a big part of it (in the case of MTG) is that playing reactively in a single player turn based game is not regarded as very skillful, although I might be wrong since I’ve never played that game lol
The problem isnt that they are "retarded" its that you desire the fight. You keep answering the question, because you cant understand that you cant always win. Specially when your right.
17:50 you mentioned a reddit thread about someone explaining LS's use of language. Would you happen to remember the link? Not that I have trouble understanding the stuff that he says but I want to read people's opinions about it
same. I think Ls does use a lot of weird jargon like sinner, terrain scaling, tippering etc. he also used colors from the card game magic the gathering to mean different playstyles. red .= aggressive/.early game focused, blue control
