My 4 year old kid went to a theater for the first time and Lightyear was his first movie. I don't care for the movie, but the memories are precious. Buzz is his favorite character so it meant a lot to him. I got him a couple of those 12 inch Lightyear toys and gotta say for the price point, those things are really really nice. This one's really cool too!
Lightyear as a movie was fine. Not bad but not particularly good, either. It's a sci-fi adventure movie with some weird structure at the start, but is otherwise a fun time with some nice nods for Toy Story fans. It's just a movie that doesn't really stay with you after a week.
Mediocre is the word that you're looking for. It's borderline boring imo, it should be a colorful ala 80s sci fi cartoon like it's Buzz of star command counterpart.

A lot of the engineering on this figure is stuff that bandai has been doing with the Kamen rider line for years. I guess it makes sense that rider would get more love since it’s an ip that Bandai owns. There’s even a subline in figuarts known as shinkocchou seihou which is an even more premium line of figuarts which started with Kamen rider and mostly focuses on rider characters (although a few other characters have made it into the line like ultraman, and garo).
Got bunch of the standard and there ss kamen rider and there 2.0 and I guess 2.5 body are just like the one they used for buzz. Not sure why dbz doesn't get love from ss line
@@drunkmonkey5440 My guess is that rider gets more priority and love because: 1, sh figuarts started with Kamen rider so it’s what the line is known for (long before they started doing marvel, dragon ball, or any other non tokusatsu ip). And 2, rider is Bandai’s 2nd highest selling brand right behind Gundam.
Yes, the shf rider figures don’t get much love. I like them so much that I get shf rider figures from shows I don’t even watch purely on the suit design alone. bandai does so much better with the articulation for the shf rider figures than the dragon ball figures despite most of the rider figures have bulky designs that could easily hinder articulation. The shf renewals are the cream of the crop for sure. I also picked up my first SIC figure from bandai (ryuki 2020 release) which also makes pretty cool rider figures though in more of a stylized look rather than screen accurate and at a larger scale. The articulation on that one is surprisingly a lot more dynamic than most of my shf rider figures albeit the sculpt is a bit more broken up when posed to the limit.
@@drunkmonkey5440Likely because Bandai knew that DBZ would sell extremely well without them having to invest in this higher level of engineering for every figure.
I've seen the movie and it was a let down, I was expecting to see the story Buzz was telling Woody about in the 1st Toy Story movie, you know, Buzz working for the Space Command, having a mission to deliver some codes to destroy Zurg's weapons, I was expecting a Star Wars-esque movie, a fun space action-adventure movie with references to space-adventure movies from the 80's and 90's, instead we got The Good Dinosaur where the movie looks beautiful but the story isn't fun or memorable, dissapointing
I saw it twice. It was forgettable, it took me two viewing on D+ to finish without sleeping. I like that look for Buzz. It looks like a more detailed version from Toystory. No problems with the design to me. 👍 Cowl.
I knew you’d like this figure! He looks amazing. Can’t wait to get mine. The ONLY thing I think it could have used would have been an opening display thing on his left gauntlet (like some of the Neca Predators). Other than that, this thing looks damn near perfect!
1. I was excited for this movie, i watched it and was incredibly dissapointed, i tell everyone just stick to the original animated Buzz Lightyear movie/cartoon. 2. I LOOOOOOVE this design, still want this figure despite the movie sucking.
"i tell everyone just stick to the original animated Buzz Lightyear movie/cartoon" For your information, I make my own decisions and I don't take orders from you.
I wonder what's stopping bandai from producing the same quality of figures for dragon ball as kamen rider, ultraman and even some of the other licenses they have. Like Turles and 2nd form frieza look amazing but they always lack something that the others have. Like for example, Ultraman Z original is filled with loads of paint and articulation that helps makes the figure expressive and life-like. Then we have a newer release like vegeta, who doesn't have any sort of paint on him and some of the faces look really odd, and a reuse of an old mold doesn't help. If they can make buzz lightyear a 10/10 figure, then they can do the same with the dragon ball line.
I just got this figure in today, grabbed him off BBTS, paid the late tax for it, but it is a damn good figure. I have no problems with the arms on mine, so that might just be figure-to-figure. I haven't watched the movie yet, but I very much grew up with the Toy Story movies.

I caved & saw the film, which while average did entice me into buying a HUGE chunk of Mattels amazing toyline ... AND ALSO this SHF Buzz. The film is good just for the Pixar 'toyetic' designs which hark back to THE CLASSIC (& still best toyline) of "Major Matt Mason" (MMM) space toys circa late 60's / early 70's (when I was a kid) & coincidentally were also made by Mattel back in the day. The Lightyear spaceships, Armadillo transport & Buzz's various muticoloured spacesuits are pure toy heaven for me. This SHF version is of course hand candy par excellence. We're 50 years later and still no one makes a GOOD space toy range of action figures & in-scale vehicles ..... I have a dream !
The movie is definitely not terrible. Great action flick in my opinion. The animation is phenomenal and has some good emotional moments. Definitely worth a watch
Honestly, Lightyear is just okay. It’s nowhere near as bad as people say it is, it’s a lot of hyperbole. The main issue is Buzz doesn’t fit within his own movie and his goals seem ultimately arbitrary. As for the redesign of the suit, I love it. It’s so big and bulky, it reminds me of a Warhammer Space Marine or a StarCraft Marine.
The movie wasn’t terrible. Entertaining enough and looked really good. It does have some odd story beats and I don’t particularly like way they tied it in with toy story. I do very much enjoy the design of the suit. Very sharp! As for the figure, I’ve posed mine around a bit and haven’t had any issues with the arms.
I know you really dont do SHMA much, but I wish you would get ahold of Hedorah that just came out.....Other than a loose leg, she has got to be one of the best figures of the year for me. But I love figures that have weird anatomy. I have all the baseline Godzillas and a handful of the monsters. It's fun seeing how Bandi engineers these figures and how, other than "special color" each figure is a new unique sculpt. Your review on King Gidorah, made me buy it, and while not perfect, I'm really glad I did.
Not seen the film, I also heard it was bad and haven't bothered on Disney+ yet. Really great fig, wasn't sure whether it was just mine, but my arms also pop off just as easily too, so guess it's a design/tolerance issue
I saw the film and it was a complete letdown for me. All I expected was a sci-fi action movie done 90s style, complete with cool action, lots of one-liners and a dashing hero, just telling the story that was described in Toy Story 1&2 of Heroic Buzz vs. Evil Emperor Zurg. Instead we got a very 201X subversion of expectations, complete with a nonsensical plot contradicting established stories and characters. What were they thinking? The figure is nice, no doubt. But not something I care about. I’ll stick with the Toy Story version. Cowl on look, definitely.
Are you plannin reviewing the shf tech-on avengers? That venomized wolverine looks rad. The engineering on this figure is similar to how they do the tech-on avengers and some kamen riders
It was a fun movie, wasn’t anything crazy but I definitely had fun watching it. The character design is really cool and this figure is amazing. Top 5 this year for me
It was an ok movie. I just didn’t like who the villain turned out to be. I thought it was lazy and basically ruins Zurg being a nemesis as the Toy story movies put it.
" I just didn’t like who the villain turned out to be" Hahaha, I just love it when toxic elitists ruin my childhood movies with their shitty opinions XD
I liked it enough, the cat def steals the show for me. The suit's awesome, but the figure should have a wash and some weathering, as does the suit in the movie. No cowl for me, as Buzz spends most of the movie cowlless and besides, I really dig the new look. I really want this figure but the price is excessive.
Since I enjoyed the Lightyear (*in truth) while being neutral to the flaws, I actually love the figure even tho I don't have it. If I were to get a S.H. Figuart anime character? I'd totally switch heads with him to pretend an anime charatcer's wearing a Space Ranger suit XD
How could they not include sox. The most important thing in the show. Its a good figure, but it reminds me too much of the brain damage that was induced watching this movie
Im gonna be honest.... i had in my mind that the movie was like a origin story for buzz, and after this movie the toys were made. Like if armstrong would have action figures, because he was the first guy on the moon. But then the movie was about going into the future/paradox/lightspeed and it almost had zero things to do with toy story besides it being buzz lightyear from toy story. But aside from the woke stuff i loved the movie
@@DMangalorean Ok I'd appreciate if you'd stop accusing me about that kiss scene because while I still enjoyed the movie I didn't care for that scene, cut me some slack will ya?
I don't think so, if you have seen the movie then you'll know Zurg is like twice as tall than Buzz, so they'd have to do a pretty big and expensive figure. And given that the movie wasn't a success I doubt they'll commit to a release like that. Which is a shame
In my opinion, Pixar doesn’t make bad movies, and most critics recommend the film is not one of the best Pixar movies, but that is a difficult thing to achieve. I say watch the movie
I didn’t think the movie was terrible. I have two toddlers so I see plenty of Disney and Pixar movies, and it was just odd to see that this was the story they chose to tell. Lots of strange narrative choices at the expense of fun.
Overall I liked the movie but this is not the one that Andy would had watched in 1994. This is more like a prequel or reboot version that came out in 2016
I saw it (three kids and all that) and it was fine. The kids liked it. They've watched it multiple times. I don't have the urge to watch it again though. Maybe it's just not geared towards me.
Lightyear was disappointing for me. I really wanted to like it and it seemed like something right up my alley. The visuals were of course stunning and I think the characterization of Buzz was ok. Chris Evans was fine, but the movie was bogged down by a clunky script, annoying/forgettable side characters, a poor villain twist, and no I did not LOVE Socks. I don’t understand why people are so obsessed with him he did not make me laugh except for the “5 minutes” joke.
The movie was good in that it was a sci-fi space thing. Apparently the time-dilation thing is totally wrong but it's the only thing that makes the story work. The figure here by SHF is probably the best thing about the whole affair.
I never really liked Toy story although I do remember liking Buzz in total denial of being a toy so I was a little excited for the movie. I started watching it on Disney+ one night and maybe got 10mins in and wasn't interested. The figure looks fantastic however. I like the cowl.
I really liked the movie, but I felt it lacked some of that Pixar magic/creativity. I cannot believe I want this figure after seeing the movie and hearing wonderful things from the collecting community.
@@AnthonysCustoms "disney hasnt been creative is decades" Dude, no offense but who honestly cares?? I'd rather remain a Pixar-only for the rest of my life than watch another crappy 2D Disney classic, heck even Rescue Rangers and Gargoyles for me were way more entertaining cartoons for me including the shows from Jetix I grew up watching than those lousy 2D Princess movies lol.
Lightyear was okay. Nothing special but not completely terrible. Just sort of...forgettable. Which is a shame because the animation is actually quite nice but that's really one of the only things it really has going for it.
I have seen plenty of good customs of realistic Buzz or Woody figures and this the closest official one, it does look nice. I am not interested in the movie. It could have been a short film if they weren't willing to make a genre cheesy homage of sci fi closer in style to Spaceballs and actually following the story on the Buzz Lightyear toy packaging from the original movies.
Haven’t seen the movie, not interested despite enjoying Toy Story. I am not a fan of Disney’s decision to add their flavor of protest using the ridiculous fabrication that the bill was about “don’t say gay”, when it doesn’t say anything of the sort, but is rather codifying not talking to 5-year-olds about graphic sex in classrooms since apparently people need to be specifically told not to do that. Do whatever you want in your bedroom on your own time- very few people actually care about that- but keep it away from young children. Anyways, Disney probably lost $1B on that decision. And they seem to be doubling down, so who knows what they’ll look like in a few years. New Line went all-in on offending the Catholic Church with the Golden Compass, and it immediately bankrupted them despite making literally billions off Lord of the Rings. Disney seems too big to fail, but they seem hell-bent on trying.
Personally, I loved the movie and love the figure. The figure is easily my favorite thing from SHF I own, and he’s up there almost with some of my favorite Mafex, too. For the movie, I think there were too many political and squabbley people reviewing it in bad faith (ie people who never saw the movie, but claimed it sucked because there were gay characters in it, or because they went with Chris Evans for the voice instead). If you look beyond those complaints, and look at it just based on the movie itself, it was a good film. Great even. It was a grounded scifi origin story that I feel was really well done. That being said, and here’s where the movie falters, is that even if its good, it wasn’t what people expected or really asked for from a Buzz Lightyear movie. And that part I agree with. People wanted a full movie of the excitement of the video game sequence in Toy Story 2, and instead they gave us a more intimate movie about who Buzz is and the psychology of why he is the way he is. And that’s good, but it’s not as exciting. I think if they had stuck to a larger-than-life star command scale film, it would’ve been received better.
"It was kinda just mediocre" A perfectly logical example of why elitism and puritism just ruins movies and shows for me, take your negative opinion about the movie somewhere else.
@@monster-mecha_enthusiast_2002 I wasn’t hating on it and I certainly didn’t mean to come across as elitist. All I meant is that while the movie is watchable there are many films that provide more entertainment value for the same investment of time.

Are you plannin reviewing the shf tech-on avengers? That venomized wolverine looks rad. The engineering on this figure is similar to how they do the tech-on avengers and some kamen riders
i dont think so. they dont really do anything for me. too samey. kinda like the mcu designs.
@@AnthonysCustoms i see thanks for replying 😁
It was a fun movie, wasn’t anything crazy but I definitely had fun watching it. The character design is really cool and this figure is amazing. Top 5 this year for me
In the end of the movie, he actually get the one that looks like the toy version.
It was an ok movie. I just didn’t like who the villain turned out to be. I thought it was lazy and basically ruins Zurg being a nemesis as the Toy story movies put it.
" I just didn’t like who the villain turned out to be"
Hahaha, I just love it when toxic elitists ruin my childhood movies with their shitty opinions XD
See everyone. He shows you what an actual good figure is like. He knocks others because they fall short from what could have been done better.
It’s a Buzz Lightyear action figure! Of course the arms are gonna pop off! 😂
Two balls and a peg…I see what you did there. Lol
They wanna shove LGBTQ propaganda in kids movie as well
@@DMangalorean Ok I'd appreciate if you'd stop accusing me about that kiss scene because while I still enjoyed the movie I didn't care for that scene, cut me some slack will ya?
Awesome!!!! How tall is buzz??
yes i saw this movie, and yes i liked it, Very much.
Let’s see what zurg will be like
I’m curious will they make a zurg figure
I don't think so, if you have seen the movie then you'll know Zurg is like twice as tall than Buzz, so they'd have to do a pretty big and expensive figure. And given that the movie wasn't a success I doubt they'll commit to a release like that. Which is a shame
@@jorgerincon6874 eh true.
In my opinion, Pixar doesn’t make bad movies, and most critics recommend the film is not one of the best Pixar movies, but that is a difficult thing to achieve. I say watch the movie
Disney makes lots of bad movies though
He said the words “ball joints” an uncomfortable amount of times
Anyone else think this'll be a good base for a custom Lex Luthor?
EDIT: Never mind, dude's a little too short. Still, amazing sculpt.
I didn’t see the movie and don’t care to but I watched this review and loved it keep up the good work!
To becomes one's own gather through time travel and beyond!
This is more like a prequel or reboot version that came out in 2016
This figure looks amazing! Regarding the movie... give it one watch at least
I have not seen Lightyear, don’t want to see it.
Design is kinda cool. Still prefer the cartoon show as it made the toy make sense.
Have this figure of Buzz on the way. He looks like a pretty great figure for what was regrettably one stinking turd of a movie.
I saw it (three kids and all that) and it was fine. The kids liked it. They've watched it multiple times. I don't have the urge to watch it again though. Maybe it's just not geared towards me.
"Maybe it's just not geared towards me"
Blah blah blah, terrible excuse lol.
I watched it on DIsney+. Dont understand the hate, it was pretty entertaining to me.
I thought the movie was cute, but not good enough for me to care to watch it again. Sox is the best character lol
I really liked the movie, but I felt it lacked some of that Pixar magic/creativity. I cannot believe I want this figure after seeing the movie and hearing wonderful things from the collecting community.
it lacks the pixar creativity because it's not pixar. it's disney/pixar. disney hasnt been creative is decades.
@@AnthonysCustoms "disney hasnt been creative is decades"
Dude, no offense but who honestly cares?? I'd rather remain a Pixar-only for the rest of my life than watch another crappy 2D Disney classic, heck even Rescue Rangers and Gargoyles for me were way more entertaining cartoons for me including the shows from Jetix I grew up watching than those lousy 2D Princess movies lol.
Don’t bother watching the movie. The character designs are cool though.
Nice review, the figure is fire.
Lightyear was okay. Nothing special but not completely terrible. Just sort of...forgettable. Which is a shame because the animation is actually quite nice but that's really one of the only things it really has going for it.
I seen it and I thought it was awesome. But that’s coming from a guy who has been a Buzz Lightyear fan forever lol. So yea I say watch the movie
i love this look for buzz. movie is meh. but figure is cool.
Do you eve plan on doing horror Neca?
Nope
May not be first but I am first to say first
That's a significant loophole
I saw the movie and it was boring. I like the new look.
The movie was alright
I didn't like the movie at all was terrible , but the figure looks nice
It was cool but it fell flat definitely wouldn’t want the toy after the movie the cat was the best part
I saw it, had it on in the background while I was animating stop motion. It was kinda just mediocre but not egregiously bad or anything imo.
"It was kinda just mediocre"
A perfectly logical example of why elitism and puritism just ruins movies and shows for me, take your negative opinion about the movie somewhere else.
@@monster-mecha_enthusiast_2002 I wasn’t hating on it and I certainly didn’t mean to come across as elitist. All I meant is that while the movie is watchable there are many films that provide more entertainment value for the same investment of time.
Movie sucked, animated movie and series did it way better. Character models were cool, and gotta go with the cowl. The hair looks good but the cowl is iconic.
The movie is…fine. It’s not bad it’s just not as good as it should have been. Sucks about the arms, haven’t had that issue
