Hey bud fantastic pickup!!!! I’ve had mine for about 20 years and I beat the dickens off that knife……. Have to show you guys after 20 years how it held up…… thanks so much you can’t beat 25 bucks for a case knife in CV steel…….. thanks so much for showing it I’ll show you mine if your interested in seeing it!!!!😊
I’m so happy that you shared that deal! Mine is on track to be here tomorrow. I will do an unboxing video on it. Yellow knives make me happy! And a Case for that price really makes me happy!
Great buy. My son bought me a case trapper full size but it has stainless blades. I was glad to get it but I really wanted the carbon steel, however these blades sharpen up good and hold an edge really well. I carry that knife everyday and use it for everything. Cleaning fish, skinning deer and squirrels, using it at work to cut rubber tubing and belts.
Appreciate you sharing the good word on these! I’ve been carrying mine everyday, and I’m super pleased with it. And the nostalgia it brings, thinking about seeing my old man carry one my entire youth is the bonus. Too bad they sold out quick from us, else I’d bought him one.
All the case knives I have, had to be oiled and needed a cleaning when new. That said, when broken in had some of the best actions of any knives I've had. They are great knives.
Great deal. I have a Mini Trapper in CS that I really like. I did a forced patina on the blades and it came out great. Love your channel. Keep up the great work.
I have several case knives and have had a few that developed problems over the years. The ones that did I returned under warranty and was greatly pleased with the service I received. I had a new vault pattern on which the shield fell off and was lost. In that instance the Warranty Department asked if I would be agree to have them send me a shield for me to install. I agreed and the problem has no reoccurred. I know it is maddening to get a new product that is flawed but they will make it right if given the chance.
I have the same knife with 3254 CS on the blade. It was given to me by a woman who lost her husband who in younger years was a navy Seal. It was his knife and she wanted me to have it because of some yard work I did for her and she knew I liked the outdoors bush life. So I use it mainly when I go in the woods and live out of my tent. I did not know it was called a Trapper. Thanks for the video. I was happy to see it.
That’s a great score man I would jump on it but I did get one of the smkw exclusive ones. The yellow delrin holds a special place to me it’s what my first one was and has lots of memories
Great Video man!! I can't wait to open mine, I want to give 1st impressions on Video. Thanks very much for getting me the info on these, I just wish i would have purchased more of them.
I ordered CV from Amazon and received the CS instead. I was disappointed at first but we’ll see how it holds up. Sadly I paid 40ish for mine but It’s a work knife and I’ll get plenty of value out of it. 👍
I would never advocate a 1095 steel blade to a non-enthusiast, but Case's line of yellow delrin/cv knives are a favorite of mine. Unless you want Chinese manufacturing, the Case CV line is the best quality/least expensive retro knife that is readily available. The alternative is to swing a bank loan and invest in a Great Eastern or other some such upmarket collector knife.
You may be right about the CV, I’ve never been sure what exactly it was. These are marked simply “CS” and by every account I’ve been told the new “CS” is also 1095
A local gun shop by me named cosners gun and knives has the biggest case knife collection I've seen in person. So many complete sets in display cases from so long ago. Not many for sale but owner was complaining about case not sending out knives. Said in 2 months they recieved 2, case owes him like 40 knives he claimed.
There’s a place like that near me, they have an unreal case XX display but hardly nothings for sale, I was so bummed the first time I asked about buying one
@Doomcrew Outdoors that's how I felt today looking at all of em on the walls and the only display he had with for sale in it was used and wore out case knives and some otf made in Texas I can't remember the brand. I wanted to but a couple
Nice deal! I like the yellow delrins! Currently i carry my amber bone large stockman in CV its been a faithful knife i just use mineral oil on the whole thing once in awhile. I have been curious to try this new CS stuff! Tempted to eventually get another large stockman in it someday! Stockmans always been my favorite pattern because all the old fellas in my family carried one when i was a kid and my first knife was an old, blackened and worn Imperial frontier with the powderhorn shield from when imperial was made in USA. I miss that knife. Thanks for the video! that stockman of yours is really nice!
If a traditional multi blade folder , is meant to be a working pattern , then give me a woodie handle every time !!! Going back to the original 13 colonies , working pattern knives were always Woodie's , as they are the most grippe in extended use situations , with sweaty hands etc .....
Hey man do case knives always come a little dirty? Im new to wanting to collect them and I received one that has a little bit of blackish smudge on it and some dust. Can they be like that fresh from the factory?
Yes absolutely, sometimes worse than others but that black smudgy stuff is the little bit of leftover polish they used when polishing up the knife at the factory, case pumps out so many knives a day that sometimes they just don’t get em all cleaned up like we would expect, and a lot of times the smoothness of the blade action improves after a couple flushes too, if I have one that’s gritty or tight I like to flush the Pivot with a little WD-40 and that usually takes care of it
@@doomcrewoutdoors1613 thanks for the info man. Got some razors and was debating starting a return as one was a collector piece for me and I thought they were used or something. Not to mention the poor fit (which I know is to be expected). I guess I’ll go ahead and keep them if this is what’s to be expected. I feel like the return process would be a slow process with them anyways, so probably not really worth the time. Thankfully, the action/pull on them is perfect by my standards and the pivots are nice and flush with no gapping between the antique bone and the bolsters. I’ll take it I suppose lol.
@@m.houston6643 yeah it’s sad but with the current state of production case is just kinda hit or miss, lately I haven’t been buying but rather trading with guys I trust so we both know what we’re getting before hand
@@doomcrewoutdoors1613yea I think that after what you have said, with case I might as well roll with the punches haha. And maybe further into my journey I can get into trades all I’m really interested in right now is the razor though
Read the writing on the box and see if it’s USA made with domestic and GLOBAL materials. May be that the blade is made in the same factory as Rough Rider carbon steel.
No sir, you can watch a tour of the case knife factory and they stamp their own blades, the whole “tested XX” thing refers to the two different tempering processes that each blade gets and has gotten for decades. The stag they use is imported and some other handle materials and that about it.
Well by all accounts I’ve seen the carbon steel IS 1095. I had that same question myself but everything says it’s 1095. And I’m not totally sure what the difference between 1095 and CV is.
I think its all marketing . I purchased the same knife in 1998 at Bass Pro for $20.00 , mine is still setting in the safe since day 1 . I purchased it to use but when I got home with the knife it was totally void of an edge it had not even touched a sharpening belt so I stuck it in the safe and forgot about it .
@@kennethking817 I’m sure you’re right to a degree, I did read or watch somewhere that they we’re having trouble getting the CV steel and that’s what led to the change. As far as marketing goes- my initial question arose when the did a “Smokey mountain knife works exclusive” which was a plain yellow delrin trapper just like the one I have here except the blade was stamped “1095” instead of CS (carbon steel) so I asked well what’s the difference in the two then? And nobody could tell me any true difference other than the way they were stamped…. And to me that’s a marketing scheme. Nevertheless this has been a great knife and I really like the new CS
Case has always been a good knife but the company's Quality construction issues and Cost has driven me away , I've seen better blade alignment on $5.00 novelty knives but their Pretty , there's better options at a far less costly price .
@@kennethking817 there is a lot that goes into play here, does case have build quality/quality control issues? Absolutely. However ask me if I’ve ever heard my grandfather bitch about blade centering or little gaps in the backspring? Nope. Social media and “collectors” have brought all these issues into the lime light. The people that don’t really use the knife just examine it. I get the cost vs. quality argument but I’ll never start buying, say, Rough Riders just because they’re cheaper.
