I used to find lubing and filming kinda tedious/annoying at first, then I didn't mind it as much when I got more efficient/consistent at it, and now I despise lubing with all my heart... I just want to build the dang keyboard man
i have also experienced that pattern lol. you can hit a groove and watch like 3-4 netflix episodes to do a set of 90
then you realize you just lost half a day watching 4 episodes of netflix LOL
@@AndyVNguyen exactly!! I personally prefer 75% or tkl over 65's but my latest build is the sun68 just because you literally won't be able to pay me to spend like a full day lubing (usually takes me a full day because I get distracted and take huge breaks for gym and such)
try gateron cj's if you like linears and not lubing. also just any switch that is marketed as factory lubed i've found to be just fine. i think people get used to the buttery thickness of toi much 205 and think that's what a lubed switch is supposed to feel like and then they want all their switches to feel that way. to me less is more and factory lube is just fine imo
@@deepsp_ce well, it's not really a question whether lubing switches yourself is a lot better than factory lubed in most cases. Factory lube is fine but if you're looking for the best of the best, then you wanna lube and film switches yourself (or pay people to do it). Trust me, I've been in the scene long enough to see the differences and feel them myself.
I’m currently in the latter phase. I just frank-switched for the first time ever, lubing and filming them. Now I’m absolutely burned out on any kind of switch modding. Using unlubed KTT Strawberries rn and they feel great
Coming from the gunpla hobby, lubing switches doesn't feel tedious at all. If I'm short on time, I'd much rather lube and film than have to sand, scribe, prime, paint, etc. Also, I at least the switches go into a device that I'll use regularly, versus something that just looks pretty on a shelf (though yes, some people just have keyboards for that too hahaha).

I definitely find lubing switches therapeutic while simultaneously finding it to be a bit weird. That being said, after doing batch after batch I find no shame in reaching for a stock switch. Definitely going to look into these for some hotswap testing!
I don’t like lubing switches BUT I do like testing new switches, knowing new feels and sounds, exploring, and finding what I like. That part is very therapeutic to me
As someone who suffers from an anxiety disorder, spending 2-3 hours lubing switches is actually a great way for me keep my mind focused on one peaceful thing instead of a million things that make me uncomfortable.

i usually lube my switches when doing something else, like playing dnd. i have ADHD and always have to do something with my hands, so a no brain task like lubing is really nice for a 2-5 hour session of sitting around and role playing

I bought some gat ink black v2's for my keychron q3 build and only had one slightly scratchy switch out of 90, their qc process must have gotten better over time
These switches went back in stock and I bought some. There is a huge consistency issue with the switches I received. Some felt very scratchy even when heavily lubed whilst others have no scratch at all with only a thin coat of lube. I'm not saying Andy is shilling (the switches being sent to review might truly be handpicked after all) for invokey but new buyers do need to be aware.
Sorry to hear. Not sure if they still hand QC them. They did it for all retail ones for a few rounds, not just my set for review. I got another set two rounds after the review set, Someone just tagged me said they loved their set from the last sale. If it’s a huge discrepancy, I would email them

You should review Prevail Epsilons! They're smoother than Black Inks, but slightly clackier. Definitely a unique JWK!
i took a look at them and put it in the bauer and the wind x already, they're pretty nice

OP blacks had some heavy QC issues. but the big diff b/t em is that op black isn't a long pole stem. so pick the overall sound you like.

I'm always at a war with switch pins ngl. them thangs SHARP
And there are still bent pins on the handfull you were holding. After 100% qc.
Bent happens in shipping sometimes. It’s not that much of an issue, I’d always check pins before installing into hotswap no matter who it comes from.
If you don't like lubing just get clicky switches :D
These switches sound pretty good and I like that they do some extra quality control on them.

clickies can be cool but if i use them for daily use i will probably go crazy
back when i was doing online school i would often lube switches during the class, because online for me was very easy, work load was a bit heavy but I could handle it because it was simple work, most of it was watching a video and answering questions, so id pull out the good old SC lube station and get to work, id probably lube like 50 switches in a day, ive got about 700 switches total, and so now i dont have to lube switches ever again!
But what about new switches!
@@AndyVNguyen on occasion I'll pick up some new switches. I don't want to feel ripped off due to marketing hype so if I do it will probably be some old durock switches. I got a lot of og rare switches so if I need I'll just desolder.

Would you recommend keebsforall pink robin switches over the matcha lattes? They seem to be a recolour of the same switch. Only difference I know of is the factory lubing consistency.

Just wondering, what other switches use the, what I call, holy trinity of switch materials? ( pom stem, polycarb top, nylon bottom ), linear and tactile welcomed.
Most switches use that combo. Jwk switches are a good example

Are there any issues with inconsisten stem travel? I have heard reports of aflion having inconsistent stem travel from switch to switch but I have no idea if that is true or not.

I'm presently experiencing the opposite end of Aflion-made switches: KeebMonkey Icebergs. 25¢ a switch... Feels like there's weird issues with basically everything... poor stem tolerances/build quality, weird soft/weak/inconsistent bottom-out, and an unrefined two-stage spring. Lube makes 'em alright but these ain't it when JWICKs/Yellows/Reds exist.
Manufacturer is one thing but every vendor can work with them directly to create a different product. Seems they have an affordable line that is kind of trash lol
dang, i actually have no issues with the icebergs! Could be batch variance, esp since they're on the cheaper end
@@AnzelLmao oh for sure that's the deal here. Like for some stem wobble doesn't bother them... but mine have SO much wobble it's nuts, so the stems all wiggle enough to tease out more inconsistencies with the leaf spring, bottom housing, etc. Films don't work, just makes the housing almost impossible to re-open and doesn't change wobble. Some have nice, deep bottom-out, and others feel weak/vague; spring isn't the culprit, swapped them on affected switches and they still do it. Stem swap only makes a good stem feel... less so. It's maddening lol, glad your experience hasn't been like mine!
@@AndyVNguyen oh I'm sure that's what's happening here, but I hadn't heard of Aflion before this one so I was sort of uncertain. I've also got a "double mount gasket" board coming in from KeebMonkey (gasket tabs for both the plate AND PCB) which I am now deeply concerned with lol.

I use the WEENG method to lube switches. Definitely way faster and just as effective.

These may actually be my new favorite switch not even joking lol doesn't remind me of how thin some jwk switches sound I'm still OK with lubing and I've doen it for so many years now lol sure sometimes it takes me longer as I go slow at times but thats all I just don't put a set time on doing it sometimes I will do a little at time sometimes not but I do enjoy doing at least 60-70 switches everytime I start a lubing session BTW I ended up buying there matchs latte decaf the ones that didn't pass QC they are all fine perfectly usable as they stated can be used as is the issue is the lube isn't consistent in those like the good passed qc ones and imo saving that much money is worth just buying the ones that didn't pass qc I mesn every other switch we buy from companies are this inconsistent so why not save money lol now the regular batch that passed qc is amazingly consistent

I kinda enjoy lubing tho. Especially the part where I can control how consistent the amount of lube is applied on every switch which pretty much makes every switch feel the same. I am easily bothered by a set switches that doesn't feel consistent. Kinda makes me a control freak I guess.

Watching this video while lubing my first ever batch of switches (Kailh box whites). This is not so bad if you do it in batches. Watching RUclips or listening to some podcast. Maybe by the third batch I'd be over it and looking for those switches for the lazy XD.
lol yeah a lot of my friends do it in batches too but it still takes a lot of time. i honestly prefer just clearing it all out at once and not having to worry about it
