- My brother @alabamafloats and I did an overnight #camping trip on the Buffalo River in Waynesboro, Tennessee, with Crazy Horse Recreation Park. They put us in at Trace Creek and we had 17 miles to get back to the outfitter. I was in my #canoe and he was in his #kayak . This was most of day 1 right before we stopped to camp.
Great video. Keep ‘em coming!
Thanks so much, Brock! Part 2 should post on Saturday!! Thank you!!
Man that's a pretty river .
Great vid Dan, plenty of rocky beaches too. Will they let ya stay longer, or take longer?
Can ya keep on floatin through to another pick up.
Anyway, lookin forward to the next vid brother. Ty'all.
All great questions that I want to know, too! Since this 17 mile trip takes you back to their outpost and they have a 10-mile that starts at their outpost, you could conceivably go 27 miles! I'd do it in a heartbeat if they let you!! Thanks, brother!!!!
@@SouthernPaddler vance and I too. Ttya ✌️
Man it's always fun to go floating with family. I can tell it was good times except for the incident. Thank you for taking the time to explain the rock undercut in the video at 8:06. I had all 6 of my son's & my granddaughter listen to you explain how dangerous that is & now they know. I'm sorry to hear that your brother lost some of his gear. I tell my kids to tie everything down to the kayak so you don't lose it. This was a good video looking forward for part 2. I'm glad you and your brother was safe out there.
Thank you very much, Mack! Those two trees where my pole broke is where Dave flipped. If you look closely you can see the current pushes slightly to the right into that rootball on the right. That's what broke my pole and that's what flipped him. You are absolutely right that anything you want to keep needs to be tied to the boat! Thanks for watching, Mack!!
One of our absolute favorite paddles!
Mine too, Dory! This is such a great river!! Thank you!
Sorry about the pole, man. There were so many beautiful spots along that stretch of water. Thanks for sharing them with us. Have a blessed week.
Thank you very much, John! It's one of my favorite rivers. I hope you have a blessed week, too!! 🙏
I love this little trip I do it with my wife and my Chihuahua I'm camping and I bbq and drink smoke this is life good experience i see accident and everything with my wife good to see you bro see you later
Thank you, Issac! It is a fantastic river! And BBQ on the river makes it better!! Thanks, bro!!
Like #41. Beautiful driving, fantastic place, beautiful travel day.
Thanks for your wonderful video.
Thank you!!
helllo
watching your RUclips is nice love the beautiful nature and beautiful scenery thanks for sharing 👍
Thank you very much!
Did this section of the buffalo in the early 80's it was a blast
Awesome...and agreed! I think this was my first time on that section. My cousin said we did it once 10+ years ago, but I can't remember for sure (which is rare when it comes to paddling...lol).
Hi Dan, amazing river as always. Very interesting is the section of the river with the strange rock, how it pushes you under the rocks (like in the last paddling trip). Nice adventure. David PT
Thank you so much, David! That was a very interesting section and glad we avoided it, but unfortunately another section got my brother. Thankfully we were ok! Hope all is well with you, my friend! Dan SP
Wow, what a day! Glad no one was hurt.
Can’t wait to see part 2. And now I need to check to see if Alabama Floats has his perspective video up on his channel! 😅
Thanks, Glenna- me too! Well, unfortunately he's missing some footage because he lost his phone in the mishap. I don't know if he'll talk about it on his video...we'll see! :-)
@@SouthernPaddler Ugh 😑 I hate that for him. I recently left my phone outside in a thunderstorm in NM.
@@GlennaRedcliffe Oh no! 😯
😁👍 will be watchin. Precoated y'all, good Vid.
Blessins n thanks brother
Thank you very much, Will!! Part 2 coming Saturday!! Blessings, my friend!!
Watching still but what a beautiful trip. I think though, I'd have chose the other seat in the canoe and been more towards the center of the boat. Looks fun though.
I have done that before and it's definitely more balanced, but with the camping gear loaded as far forward as possible it does pretty good...and I get to use my seat back! :-)
Guess the rain didn’t help too much raising the levels.
No, it didn't! We still had several "scrapy" spots...lol. But it wasn't too bad. :-)
Hi and thanks, Southern Paddler for sharing.
Oh...no....I hope your cam is ok.---2;42.
Yes, the direction is sometimes goofy...even using GPS with a cellphone.
as you mentioned, this part is very tricky---May I ask the reason why the current surfs toward the rock faces?---8;38.
Wow, that's a close call.---12;12.
Wowowow..I thought your canoe capsized---13;40.
How was your brother? Any damage to your camera mount or camera itself?
OMG, that's incredibly exciting. Well done and keep coming. 🙋♀🙋♀🛶🛶
Fortunately my cameras and mount were fine. Just a break in the pole which is replaceable. I did have close call with my boat! The ground slopes towards the rock face, so the water is simply following the lowest path and unfortunately it goes right into that ledge. Thank you very much!!
Glad y’all are ok. I instantly wanted to start a go fund me account for @Alabama Floats! Tough loss on the camera pole too. Looked like a beautiful paddle in places.
Lol- I felt really bad for him. Didn't want to make a big deal of it, but it was substantial! It was beautiful, though. Thanks Lashonda!!
Always enjoy your videos, but i like the slight change of format. Beaut of a creek.
Thank you very much! Yes, I probably need to change it up a little more. This video (and part 2 that I finished tonight) take a little longer to put together, but I'm pleased how they turned out. It was a fantastic trip!! Thank you!!
@@SouthernPaddler Good. Never a bad thing to experiment. Please avoid those aweful TikTokish "shorts" videos that everybody is going apeshit over. I unsubbed from one channel from the overuse of those. TikTok is cancer.
What a gorgeous stretch of river! I hate to hear your brother lost gear...that hurts. I have a logistics question for you though...exactly how many kitchen sinks do you have packed into that canoe? You might be most well prepared overnight camper in existence.😂 Pete got me into mounting cameras on a ball mount so when the boom arm inevitably hits something, it has some give and just folds down. Just something to think about if you are in for a replacement. Regardless, looks like a blast! Good times!
Thank you so much, Austin! Good times, indeed!! Since it was a single overnighter my only limit was what the outfitter could get in their shuttle van...lol! As you once said, "a canoe is pick-up truck that you paddle". I live by those words! :-D I may have to go to a ball mount because the manufacturer is not currently shipping that pole. I have one more piece (of the one that broke) and after that I'll be drilling out rivets and reinstalling another mounting system. :-/
Dang it. Just watched my footage today. Still painful. Almost as painful as seeing my big beer gut on camera.
Lol! Man, that was painful (the gear). My gut shows on the next when I open up with us dragging our boats right after the "incident". I did get that topwater hit and put it in the second video coming out Saturday. Let me know if you want the footage.
@@SouthernPaddler definitely will take that footage.
@@alabamafloats Done!
Did yall use a shuttle service, or park a vehicle at the takeout & then go to the starting point?
@BFD378 We used Crazy Horse. Parked at their place and they drove us upstream.
You ever been to bear creek over in hackelberg
Yes, I have. I did the lower trip (outfitter to Military Bridge) last year I think, but I haven't done their main trip (including lower factory falls) in a couple of years. I probably wasn't recording videos the last time I did that section.
That strainer. I know you two fellows a strong, grown men, but neither of you are as strong as moving water. Even in that little river. . I'm no Safety Sally, but i always where a PFD since a near death experience in Wetumpka.
Yes, PFDs are ALWAYS a good idea. I do wear them at night, in colder weather and in more technical rivers, but they're a good idea anytime. I done the Coosa once. That's no joke! I did have my PFD on for that trip.
There is only one Buffalo River!!
Lol- I will agree with that. The BNR has become the standard by which I judge all other rivers!! But the Tennessee Buffalo is one of the best in the deep South!
