to clarify, does this symbol only show up if you don't have a single level of this aspect in your codex, or does it still appear if you don't have that aspect fully leveled in your codex?

Its shows if you don't have it or it is an upgrade.

Those would mean that they are legacy items and were just added because of the changes coming with this current PTR.

What about an asterisk next to a perk and the name of the piece of ancestral gear. I have an asterisk next to it looks like this *+3 Fury on Kill

I will try and look into that, is it like a glowing red star? If so then what the others have said is correct it is a greater affix.

I think it's max stat but don't quote me, Had a few of those last night and the number shown couldn't go any higher on that particular line.

those are greater affixes. just a random chance when getting gear to have 1 or 2 (maybe more not sure yet) stats that roll really high
