That Mavis Gallant intro is enchanting. Thanks for reading it. I've never read any of her, and was vaguely interested, but now I'm very interested. I don't love Annie Ernaux like everyone else does, but her books are generally short, and I'm persisting. You sound much better, glad you're feeling it too.m
Great conversation with Allan Radcliffe. I am definitely going to find his book. The Mavis Gallant novella sounds superinteresting so also going to look for it online. Elena Knows is fantastic. I have not read all of Annie Ernaux’s books but find them fascinating.
Glad you're feeling better. I watched a lot of the DNC as well. Pretty uplifting event! I enjoyed this introduction to Allan Radcliffe; his book sounds so good. Elena Knows is fantastic.
I predict that you will love Elena Knows. Your conversation with Allan Radcliffe was great. Enjoyed thoughts about safety and fear accompanying bedtime fairytales, and also about the length of stories, novellas and novels.
Could have listened to Alan talk all day, what a lovely voice he has and his book sounds rather wonderful too. I predict you’ll really enjoy Elena Knows!

I'm glad that Anita Desai's Rosarita was mentioned. It's on my TBR, and she hasn't written anything in a while. I met her almost twenty years ago at a weekend creative writing course she led. Now, for the controversial part of this comment. Speaking of politics and Annie Ernaux, I was very interested in her work, loved The Years, and was planning to read more of her work. However, while I condemn the military intervention in Palestine, I'm so annoyed by her politics, particularly her support for the BDS movement and the Strike Germany campaign, that I've come to a conclusion. If she chooses to boycott the things I identify with (cultural institutions in Germany), and if she seriously thinks that in this very complex political situation, such a boycott is meaningful or helpful, then I'm choosing to boycott her work in return.

I wonder if you and I are the same person? 🤣🤣

I hope you might check out The Old Haunts some day. It's not like you have any other books to read! 🤣🤣
I'm also late to the Annie Ernaux train! Currently reading The Years and loving it. This was a lovely interview!!!
I must get to The Years someday too! Glad you enjoyed the interview, and I hope you will check out The Old Haunts some day!
I really enjoyed hearing your mystery guest speak so intriguingly of his novel. I also liked his description of The Whale Tattoo. Thank you for this.
That's great. I think The Old Haunts might be up your alley :)
I predict that you will love Elena Knows.

This is the first time I've heard of the Strike Germany campaign. Very interesting!
