  • In today's episode of "Gurzi Guitar Sessions," Mike gives us an introduction to crosspicking... specifically the "down down up" method of picking which aims to add variety to your strumming pattern. Good luck!

This is the clearest explanation I've heard of cross-picking. Nice job.

hey Mike. Huge fan here in Columbus, OH. Your whole series has really given me a boost with some great licks and concepts and it's impacted all parts of my playing.
Best part of this video is from 7:41-8:02, where after ripping off the whole tune, you just say, "Ok, so you can...work that out." Gave me a huge belly laugh. Great stuff!

Thanks for all the videos Mike. I put down the guitar for the mandolin about 25 years ago. I just bought a D-18 this spring to get back into guitar playing flatpick style and your videos are just the ticket to get me back to where I left off and beyond. Thanks so much.

Thanks a lot for this video, and all the others you have published here. You are really good at conveying the basic ideas in a clear and comprehensible way! As a 61 year old beginner it is good to get some simple shapes to practice with. The chords you suggested are within reach for my stiff fingers, and that's not always the case, for sure. It will be fun to continue to experiment with this picking style.

Alternate is better for speed once you get the hang of it, and it tends to sound cleaner.

The head stock is shaped like a Martin but can't see the gold Martin logo on it.

The logo on the neck looks like a Santa Cruz . I was admiring the tone too.

better to learn cross picking as down up down and not down down up. true alternating picking will help down the road learning other bluegrass tunes and rolls
