Teaching English in China will always give blondes (I'm jealous...ha ha) an opportunity to see much of China and Asia (including india) almost free. This career is a start for most graduates to find a easy job that has a hugh travel component that is undeniably bullish. If you have a chance to compare where you want to teach, Asia or China is also in my opinion the number one choice places to teach. The other place where English might be desperately needed are places in Africa or even Russia. But they are not places that see English as the much needed "only necessity" for economic advancement or mobility. I heard that the middle east was developing but still the demand for English is not that great.. In time, i think people like in Europe will gravitate to knowing just this one language, making international trade or finance and computing so easily taught, and transmissible throughout the world.. Computing/ technology like mobile phones will just push English even more around the world. I find it so difficult to learn another language after English, don't you? I must force myself to be interested in another language, but the drive is so weakening if that country is not even economically exciting. How would you like to learn Portuguese, if the people of that country couldn't be bothered to learn English. I understand Portuguese is spoken in Brazil and so is Spanish in other poor S. American countries but......Language Learning must start when you are still young under 20.. But schooling is so important then also as you know. But schooling has no travel component..Knowing a language always draw you to that country. No travel no draw. Because you know Chinese, i bet you will never forget some of the things Chinese..If you were a man, you might have got married to a Chinese wife....新年快樂!
I a few years ago I too moved to China for work... I spent a number of years there in fact... not as a teacher I might add, but through one activity I was involved with, I met several hundred teachers along with a wide range of Chinese from farmers to factory workers, managers, company owners a number of whom were multi millionaires to Government Officials right up to City Mayors. What I can say to you is things seem wonderful ... friendly people, interesting historical sites etc.... all seems marvelous. It was easy to get seduced by the place. BUT.... For many expat teachers in China working for Chinese Schools they never seem to get the right visa so when the school that is employing them gets close to the end of the year and having to pay bonuses, along come the Police and Immigration officials and the teacher is deported. Often the same happens even if they do have the correct visa. Funny that. Also for many teachers they often seek secondary jobs and because this is forbidden, you can only work for the employer listed on your visa, they too wind up being deported. Now I told all these things to the bright eyed, bushy tailed teachers who had just arrived and saw everything through rose tinted glasses and most did not listen to my advice.... and guess what, they all were deported and in some cases got to spent a number of days in Police prison cells and had to pay fines before they could get away. Now, as we all know, China is keeping itself amused with trade wars with a number of countries. As a result, a number of innocent expats are in Chinese prisons having been handed down death sentences and are being used as bargaining chips with the countries that they come from. NO FOREIGNER IS SAFE IN CHINA THESE DAYS. Having said that, as a foreigner your every movement, your every action is being monitored. This includes telephone calls and messaging, everything you look at on the internet and everything you type and send to others as emails, skype etc. Just by posting this article on the banned RUclips website you have broken the Chinese Laws. By being in China you are helping the CCP in their endeavours of world domination and supporting a regime that has a shocking record of human abuse against its own people, particularly the minorities as well as the people of other countries. The CCP doesn't care what it does to be top dog and I am sorry to say anyone who goes there (foolishly me included in the day) helps towards that goal. Since Xi started to become a Dictator, things in China have become more and more difficult not only for the average Chinese person but also all Expats. Such a pity as it is a wonderful country and many of the people really are nice.. BUT.... Massive civil unrest in China is only just around the corner to be brought about through hunger, cold, lack of electricity, lack of freedom etc and I can tell you having seen it for myself where armed Police finally stepped in to disperse the crowd and a number of innocent people were killed, it is not a pretty sight. In China mobs form quickly and they act like savages because of the 'dog eat dog' mentality of survival that is instilled in all of them. My advice to you is to immediately move to a more civilized country while you can.

Where have you lived in china for few years?
