I love my 370 but its not the Nismo version. Im glad I went touring with sport/nav package on mine though. The creature comforts and nice leather is very nice to have. Still, when you see a nismo, your like wow because its so rare!
leather is nice at first, then it gets old and ugly. Plus if you live in or drive to a sunshine state, hot as hell. Cloth seat best for all conditions.
I live in Florida and my seats are just fine. Mine sits in the garage and is treated with meguiars Leather cleaner. Plus, the leather is only on the sides, the center is suede.
This is the sort of car I'd consider buying in 5-10 years, when the prices have dropped. As harsh and archaic as it may be, I love it. I love that it's built purely for the driving experience. Sort of reminds me of the glory days of the R32, RX-7, Supra...
The Zs are awesome. Bought my 2009 370Z Touring used last year, Only trouble I've had is the Clutch slave cylinder gave out and the A/C clutch siezed... expensive repairs, but I managed 18.5mpg in city and since I upgraded to K&N Air Filter it's at a steady 19mpg. Love this car.
I love this guy, honest and straight forward. Seriously, I don't give two shits about the volt meter, the oil pressure gauge would have been a nice replacement like he said or A/F. -It has as bad quality tech as my '04 S2000. -Damn right it's the worst daily driver. But you know what? This guy honestly knows his stuff. -He knows its a track spec car. -He knows that linear power is a sought after power range for track or auto-x use and he loves it too. -He knows a good sports car.
I love his reviews. He is honest, straight, and doesn't care what others think about him. His reviews are very unbiased, as they should be. I love it when he attacked one of the Bentley cars for not having GPS as a standard option. He made perfect sense. When you spent 250K on a car, you would expect it to come with everything.
Tomasz Wiraszka Well, every track car's suspension set up is built to be stiff, so of course you'd be able to feel every crack on the street even with max dampening. It's not comfortable compared to a commuter car but that should be expected which is why it's definitely not a good daily driver.
He is biased, a friend of mine had one. To get to the workplace was through twist and tight turns for about 10 miles. Everytime I would see him arrive to work, he would be laughing and loving the car, front and rear calipers will be smokin temperature hot. Again and again, he would say, I dont get tired of driving it, I love it.
If you're coming from a BMW 3 series, you're not going to be buying a Nissan, you'll be looking at Infiniti. I bet BMW's interiors are shit compared to Bentley's too, what is your point?
I have this car in the UK and strangely we get the all the tech missing from the US version - Sat Nav, BOSE package, camera (integrated to the head unit, not the mirror). It's a great car (I'm on my third 370Z). I would prefer the exhaust note to be a bit louder but its better than the standard 370Z.
I gotta say, I work for a car dealership and we got one of these in as a trade. I've owned a 350z for 2 years now so I was excited to get my hands on not only the first 370z I've ever driven, but the first Nismo I've ever driven as well. I drove it a few times and while it was a nice ride and a lot of fun, I was wholly unimpressed by it. I mean, my car felt torquier in comparison and all I have done are an intake, tune and exhaust which arent much for a VQ. The clutch felt like the clutch on the Camaro SS where it pop's back at you for no reason at a certain point causing the whole car to buck. The interior is seriously lacking any creature comforts but I guess that's acceptable seeing as they are trying to save weight in this performance car. There's no power seats, no leather, bog standard shift knob, etc. but again I think that was to save weight. The body of the car also felt to bulky. Parking the car was like trying to thread a needle while a body builder has his biceps in your face. I could barely see. I'm sure I'll get a lot of hate for this comment and believe me it PAINS me to dislike another Z car as an avid fan and owner of one, but I don't know, I really wouldnt buy this car to be honest, at the very least I'd buy a 370z base model.
Everybody whos thinkin about buying one, first test drive it,im into sportScars all my life, but just bought one as everyday car,but its really un liveable on everyday roads!!i changed the suspension cause it was undriveable! But for track use or flat canyonroads there's nothing like it,raced my friends (1 boxster s and 1 lotus exige, they couldnt keep up :)!! Thx nismo
All I saw was the price. My brother got a used manual 08 Z in mint condition with a few cool performance upgrades for 12,000. Only thing it was missing was a super charger and a very very nice car for 12,000
People are so annoyed with this review. Open your eyes people! The reviewer is just telling the truth. He honestly tell both negative and positive side of this car
This car, in my opinion, is meant to be a second vehicle and not a daily driver like he said. I have an '08 Nismo and I drive it typically on the weekend or if I'm feeling froggy I'll drive it to work. I agree that it doesn't have a lot of tech, but I didnt buy it for the tech I bought it to be my weekend toy. Could it be a daily driver, sure but you have to know what you're getting into before you buy it. I know plenty of people that drive a Z as a daily and love it.
I agree. I guess it's "different strokes for different folks"... plus he's old. This is a young car enthusiasts vehicle.... I would be very privileged just to test drive one and this guy could car less..... horrible review in my opinion because he makes a great vehicle and exceptional well achieved car from nissan seem lame.
+James J He said there should be an oil pressure gauge instead of a clock in a pod (why?) -- wouldn't any enthuasist agree on that. Tech-wise... no USB in a 2014 car is just ridiculous.
Lol the temperature on the left is for the coolant. The one on the dash is engine oil temperature. That’s the difference. The voltmeter can stay there in case you wanna know if your battery’s good or not.
Don't listen to this wood, the 370z Nismo is very comfortable, and I have BC coil overs in mine, it handles amazing with the stock suspension, but if you want track equality get the coil overs, then you'll see how comfortable it really was, but you get double the performance and reliability in handling with after market parts. Any Z is an awesome car, I mean from the 300zx twin turbo on up. You get a turbo on it, you'll be in a different category, as in American V8 territory.
love cnet reviews - he tells it like it is. Whenever I see a Nismo Z around I thought they were much more than extra handling. Good to know not to waste money on one and just get the base Z for everyday driving. I'm more into engine power than I am handling.
Look's and sound's like a hardcore factory Nissan drift car...nice, I like it! With a some early Datsun/Nissan background experience, this car shows and tells me, that Nissan went for a new car/old school gritty performance....woof!!
I've got an 09 370z base+sport, the suspension in that isn't all that cozy either, but it's a really fun car. My daily driver. If you want a sports car that is all soft, then you don't really want a sports car.
I drive my Nismo to work every day. The suspensions aren't as bad as he makes them to be. But again, the roads out here are pretty decent in Florida, so maybe I'd break a few teeth if I drove around Cali :P
ugh, this guy is a tool. He doesn't get the purpose of this car. It's meant to look aggressive and ride hard. This car is gorgeous. And to those who don't appreciate, I'm pretty sure you will break your neck when you see this thing passing you on the road. It has a lot of presence.
I used to be a service advisor for a Nissan dealer and i had a customer who was a Doctor he had a Nismo and daily drove it, long distance at least once a week by the way😂 hes a brave one
Best reviewer in the industry by far, I love watching your videos. As far as the car is concerned, that front end looks terrible; way too flat. This car needs a major overhaul real soon.
I test drove the older 350Z Nismo and it was very fun to drive, I can only imagine how the new one handles. At the time I owned an 03 Cobra so I wasn't impressed with the Nissan's power, but on the track I would of been out classed most likely. I am an inexperienced track driver though, in the right hands it could of been a lot different. Either way, the Nissan was fun to drive.
So? What you want? For this guy to say this is the greatest car ever and be done with it? Cnet makes realistic reviews. If you can't handle watching a truthful review? Go watch more of the Top Gear UK trio, Chris Harris and Carlos Lago drift cars around like a bunch of idiots.
krocialblack but the guys from everyday driver aren't. in fact, neither are top gear, chris harris or carlos lago. I don't know if you noticed, but they mostly review these kinds of cars, which are more suited for "drifting around like idiots" and therefore make little sense in terms of realism.
As someone who owned an 09 Nismo 370z this car is not made at all to have all the technology possibly, it was designed to trim as much weight as possible while still being an everyday driver. My Nismo was an everyday and was amazing to drive, this guy is a moron to be honest. The car is not bought with the expectations of a electronic machine it's bought because it's true drivers car nothing more. I've owned many different sports cars and this is by far one of my favorite that I've owned, I'm actually thinking of buying another one next summer as an everyday car because it was just a joy to continuously drive, and no I don't need a radio or any power seats, I just loved hearing the sound of the Exhaust and Engine, and the car is very driver friendly, with it's Rev Match and other little knicks that make this car definitely a drivers car and not a luxury sports car like many others. Just because it only has 18 more hp than the standard Z doesn't mean it isn't a lot more powerful. It was one of the best cars around corners that I've ever driven. I'm baffled that he has more likes on this video than dislikes, because the way he reviews the car is completely opposite of what the cars true potential is.
I drove my friends Z yeah if you're not an experienced driver don't buy it, not saying because it's powerful but because it really does have blind spots. Also it was kind of noisy in the cabin but I didn't really find bumpy. How ever it was the most fun car I've driven to date including some mustangs and camaros. Not saying it's faster no, but it did feel much more fun than those two, maybe because it felt more nimble light on her feet. I mean I prefer to dance with a graceful dancer than with a heavyweight fighter just my 2 cents
I liked this review. He wasn't shit talking, just telling it too you straight. Why would they not have something like oil pressure on the dash of a manual driven car? Especially this one. Also he was not bashing the car for its lack of options. Just stating them. He also made very clear that it is a relatively old school sports car and shouldn't be expected to roll like a gizmo laden Mercedes. On top of that he gave is opinion on the options that were equipped with his car and whether or not they were worth it. He was actually fairly positive throughout if you just slowed down and focused on the words instead of his tone. He likes driving this car and he stated very clearly why with the little time he had. Best of all, he didn't waste half his time persuading me that this is or is not a good looking car.
+Quadrunner The issue with the review. Is they tested it as a city car. When its obviously track oriented sports car. The the issue with consumer reporters is they don't review cars for what it is. But how well it fits their car as a commuting car. These were never built to be a city/town car. They were build for speed and cornering. Miata, RX, S2000 and the 350/G35's. But every review focuses on how bad of a city car they all are, and shit on them. Cause it gets views, stirs conversation and keeps their job. But when reviewing sports cars they dont have a clue. Well some do but ignore it just to feel their customer base of commuter reviews.
NoOneImportant556 From another perspective, the tractability of this car is not this guy's strong suit. Your best off watching/reading multiple reviews and focusing on each reviewers strengths. I always wish they would spend more time pointing out what its like to maintain the car they are reviewing, you know, living with it. I guess that isn't something people worry about though. The best you ever get is the price the dealer charges for some other guy to do it for you.
TassieLorenzo Lmao yea that is some sorry shit. But then again it makes sense from a legal stand point. Track pads take a LOT of abuse to get working efficiently, or at all really. Part of their design. And knowing 98% of the guys who buy these are like the guys who buy Ferraris/lambos/911's ect ect are just middle aged men or spoiled rich kids looing to drive the city and show off their toy, or hit a light canyon. With track brakes they would crash at their first stop light. If not every morning due to not getting the pads up to temp. Nissan or anyone would lose their company doing that. Unless they made it 100% non road legal.
NoOneImportant556 Good point. I read an article once on a gas can manufacturer that was sued out of business because they weren't safe enough to be poured on an open flame without exploding. I don't really see why the manufacturer needs to supply the brake pads anyway. It's an easy swap. When these reviewers do their testing I always thought they should run the same brand of tires and brakes. I mean, if you really drive your car hard the OEM will last a small percentage of your ownership. Another practical way to think about it is that most people have dedicated track components and dedicated street components. A tire/wheel swap to your Sunday best for the races just makes sense as a minimal "modification". No need to wear your soft rubber all the time.
I like that it's a Z in pure sports form. The Nismo is free of options pizazz. But I would do anything to remove the fixed rear spoiler. It doesn't belong on a 50K Z.
The G37 / Q60 has a concept V6 twin turbo coming on 2016-2017 that will make 400 and 450 hp with more torque, ..but nothing on the Z.No LCD navigation screen?
The Z is a raw sports car meant to shred curves and rip straights. The Z is not a car you drive to the grocery store. The Z is low tech purity. 4 wheels, an engine, brakes and a steering wheel. The Z is not the Gt-R, often described as soulless because of it's tech. The Z is meant for people who LOVE driving. The Z is not a luxury vehicle, in no way shape or form.
I had to stop the review intirely. Sounds like my dad. Lol u cant complain about the rough ride if thats the point. Some people enjoy riding passenger in a benzo and others want to feel whats happening. I dont want to be in the cloud I want to be on the road
He might've been trashing the car but its helpful when you're looking for a certain type and he says what its lacking in. Its not high on technology/gadgets and the interior is normal, but excels in looks and performance.
Is the Nismo, Similar to the Fairlady? I ran against one in my A4B6 APR STG 2+ (Big Injector File, and 20psi, 91 Tune; TSmart DV) and I was there there with him up into my low fourth and he still barely managed to pull on me. True story
Comments on the interior are ridiculous. If aesthetics is what you're after, the non-nismo Zs have the interior upgrade option. The Nismo is made for performance. There isn't even an option for leather seats or automatic transmission in the Nismo.. as it should be really..
I'll save everyone the trouble. Basically he climbs atop the roof and drops a giant deuce, smearing it all over the exterior with his foot as it leaks to the interior where he hops down, unbottons his trousers and unleashes a yellow stream all over the inside.
If you feel ridiculous in the 2014 body kit, you'd be mortified in the 2015. It's got red striping all around and daytime running lights you can see form a million miles away.
Huge, obnoxious wing?! Stopped watching there. It's like 3 inches above the body and completely functional. I don't even want to hear anything else he has to say.
he's not a car guy he's just trying to be cool and fit in like all the other car mags that diss spoilers. im all for functional spoilers just not boeing 777 wings
Exactly. I've noticed he likes to focus on a lot of the tech stuff. Makes sense though since this is cnet. I personally think that the spoiler on the 370z is pretty sexy. And I couldn't agree more.
yes it is, the z is one of the few affordable and true sport car on the market today. other than than the frs/brz i cant think of another 2 seater rwd car since the s2000and the rx8 were killed off ig the corvette but thats not in the price range
I didn't really care for the rx8 and I love rotaries. Way too underpowered without the turbos. Which wasn't all that bad because it could still handle well but the terrible gas mileage killed it. No one wants 4 cylinder power with v8 gas mileage. And as for the 370z, I love the styling of it even though many people don't. Can't really see how people dislike it. But it's also underpowered. I drive a 90 tt300zx, not stock but the stock z32 had 300 bhp. Are you telling me that after 24 years Nissan is only going add about 35 hp to the new z car?
forszhen7 I guess you can say you can only add so much on a 6 cylinder without going forced induction on the path of a slow progression of technology in the automobile world.
Is it just me or does the front bumper and rear bumper look to be off color? Like nissan didn't paint the parts together and just put on the kit after making just a regular z?
Noup you are wrong i daily drive a 2012 370z and it is just a joy every time i get in it.... If people are not a fan of the car dont get it, but for the money is a car that will embarrass some other famous brand names sports cars, one of the beSt in its class for sure is the 370z
The 370Z looks 100% better than the 350Z, but still not quite as cool as the 240Z. The Nismo version doesn't do much for me because there are too many better options at that price. The stock version would be worth taking a closer look at though.
I daily a 2014 370z nismo yea it is bumpy you get used to it as i did also with the technology because you don't by the car for the luxury its for the drive but overall this is something you shouldn't want to sleep on.
ive driven one of these. that rear view window is worthless. useless in stop and go traffic as well. there are two speeds 1. rocket ship 2. kill it and yes, i am quite capable of driving heavy clutches... nismo just over did it a little on this car. would i buy one though? in an instant
Well DUH. The Nismo is not a "high gadget" multi electronically car in terms of audio or video. It's a damn track car, made to be lighter weight and revolve around, you know, PERFORMANCE. It's like when I first got my 350z Nismo my friend was like, "let's hear the sound system!" The sound system?? It's damn performance car, it wasn't made or be bought to have all that bull shit. ALSO, the speedo is not designed for staring at it, the RPM gauge is the biggest because on a track THAT"S THE ONE THAT MATTERS. The speed you're going on a track doesn't matter. DUH.
Only Cooley can make a review on a crappy car worth watching. I wish they would replace Adam Ferrara on Top Gear USA with you. I would watch every episode!
people say for the money you can get more but you realize most people who buy this car are rich anyways or atleast far from poor that they don't even care about wasting 45 thousand.
This car is for drivers who buy the car specifically to drive and have fun. You dont buy this for interior fearures or ride smoothness. This is not a mercedes or lexus.
I actually like that this car has less options. More pure.
For a sport tuned suspension it was awesome. No where near as bumpy as was claimed. The suspension was spot on.
Brian Cooley is the Anthony Bourdain of automobile reviews, truly the best in the business!
I know I sound like a broken record, I just love this guy! Always great reviews!
I love my 370 but its not the Nismo version. Im glad I went touring with sport/nav package on mine though. The creature comforts and nice leather is very nice to have. Still, when you see a nismo, your like wow because its so rare!
That's how I feel when I see... let's say a "MKIV Supra Twin Turbo!" hehehehehehehe
leather is nice at first, then it gets old and ugly. Plus if you live in or drive to a sunshine state, hot as hell. Cloth seat best for all conditions.
I live in Florida and my seats are just fine. Mine sits in the garage and is treated with meguiars Leather cleaner. Plus, the leather is only on the sides, the center is suede.
How are they rare in the uk they cost as much as a 370z sport which is about £22,000.

all you need is a aux and a cell phone nothing else lol
I'll take it no matter how stiff it is, performance + looks. Love it

my 02 s2000 literally beats me up on any untended residential but i still love it. damn midwest streets
Yeah! I feel every crack and hair on the street
Michael Dao Hmm… either the streets in Texas are remarkably well maintained, or the Nismo 370 you drove had a problem :-).
Tomasz Wiraszka Well, every track car's suspension set up is built to be stiff, so of course you'd be able to feel every crack on the street even with max dampening. It's not comfortable compared to a commuter car but that should be expected which is why it's definitely not a good daily driver.
great looking car but the gauges are disrespectful. a clock? really?

+Crankestein Loskon Isn't the only biased one here your friend since he owns one and needs to feel that his purchase was justified?
Brian Cooley is such a great reviewer. So natural..
The interior material looks really good and high quality.
Compared against a Daewoo?
If you're coming from a BMW 3 series, you're not going to be buying a Nissan, you'll be looking at Infiniti. I bet BMW's interiors are shit compared to Bentley's too, what is your point?

Probably the us guys don’t handle all the tech 😂…joke no offense ❤
"I like this car a lot. It's got a raw, unique, in-your-face- ness that doesn't make any apologizes..."
This guy actually does good reviews!
very good reviewer. Best i've seen in a while on youtube for any product at all. Engaging and concise.
those things are a steal after its a few years old on the used car market.. a mass produced raw car made by a reputable car maker is a gem..
I gotta say, I work for a car dealership and we got one of these in as a trade. lol @ the people complaining about his criticisms. I like Z cars but I think he's spot on.
Best review ever, honest and to the point. Thank you sir!
He's complaining about the car more than reviewing it
Lol it seems like he does that with almost every car he reviews.
Pretty much it's not a Italian car or English car hell complain

I am sorry but the reviewer is an old man, this car was built for young people who have the energy and the willingness to drive it everyday
ugh, this guy is a tool. He doesn't get the purpose of this car. It's meant to look aggressive and ride hard. This car is gorgeous. And to those who don't appreciate, I'm pretty sure you will break your neck when you see this thing passing you on the road. It has a lot of presence.

I hate when Cnet reviews cars it seems they expect a car to do everything and no cost and almost always miss the point of some cars.
So? What you want? For this guy to say this is the greatest car ever and be done with it? Cnet makes realistic reviews. If you can't handle watching a truthful review? Go watch more of the Top Gear UK trio, Chris Harris and Carlos Lago drift cars around like a bunch of idiots.
True, they just have really high expectations. It goes the same for everything else they review, like tvs and monitors, etc.
krocialblack but the guys from everyday driver aren't. in fact, neither are top gear, chris harris or carlos lago. I don't know if you noticed, but they mostly review these kinds of cars, which are more suited for "drifting around like idiots" and therefore make little sense in terms of realism.
Seems like Brian got the point of the Nismo perfectly. Did you watch the entire video?
I agree. but is also nice to hear other opinions
1:33, parked on the curb!
cooley promise you will never leave cnet.
+NoOneImportant556 Yet Nissan doesn't supply track brake pads on this track model? How does that work!??
Yaba daba doo! Nissan sports cars all ride like flinstones but they're bullet proof.
this Nismo looks great!
such a beautiful car regardless of his opinion, he loves and hates it at the same time. .lol
its a track car guys buckets seats nice shifter steerin wheel about it needs more power or alot less weight
I like that it's a Z in pure sports form. The Nismo is free of options pizazz. But I would do anything to remove the fixed rear spoiler. It doesn't belong on a 50K Z.
Seems a lot of manufactures are going to 4cyl in some degree, thinking the next gen of Camaro is going the Mustang route with 4,6,8 cyl options.
Hey CNET, there's this great new thing called 1080p RUclips videos. You should check it out.
The Z is not a luxury vehicle, in no way shape or form.
i appreciate this guy's Honest review
I had to stop the review intirely. Sounds like my dad. Lol u cant complain about the rough ride if thats the point. Some people enjoy riding passenger in a benzo and others want to feel whats happening. I dont want to be in the cloud I want to be on the road
He might've been trashing the car but its helpful when you're looking for a certain type and he says what its lacking in. Its not high on technology/gadgets and the interior is normal, but excels in looks and performance.
Tyler Shanley I didn't see that as bashing at all. That's exactly the kind of car I look for.
I would still take cloth doe no creases or rips
Some people want stiffness in the suspension. People want the sporty feel 100% off the tme, nothings wrong with that..
I'll save everyone the trouble. Basically he climbs atop the roof and drops a giant deuce, smearing it all over the exterior with his foot as it leaks to the interior where he hops down, unbottons his trousers and unleashes a yellow stream all over the inside.
He's completely wrong about options. I've seen a 2013 Nismo w/bluetooth, nav , backup camera, and all the tech upgrades in it. It's all available.
They do, but it wasn't until 2015 when they added navigation to the Nismo 370's. It was unveiled that year because they also added the 7spd autos.
bro, take it easy on the car. Cars have feelings too.
i drove a Nismo 370 its a pretty mean car
Can't decide on getting this Nismo or a 2015 STI....one minute I'm like nismo, hour later STI.
Let me help..Sti
Nismo is not worth it at all. If you're going to get a 370Z, get one with Sport Package. SIGNIFICANTLY cheaper without all the bullshit.
Christopher Delgado The 2015 Nismo is totally SICK!!! I mean that in a good way:)
did he kinda parked to close to the curb at 1:41
Brian COOLEST
If you feel ridiculous in the 2014 body kit, you'd be mortified in the 2015. It's got red striping all around and daytime running lights you can see form a million miles away.
Good job as always mr Cooley!! Keep me coming please
Personally I don't believe it needs the head-unit tech. Its a purists car. It applies to a specific audience.
Gauge Pod Clock. Sporty.
Cool car and definitely for young people only!! Above 38 years you just look ridiclulous in it!!! And who needs a 6 disc changer nowadays??
Nice review Cooley.
What body shape is the Nismo Z
I love this 370z nismo...
I daily a 2014 370z nismo yea it is bumpy you get used to it as i did also with the technology because you don't by the car for the luxury its for the drive but overall this is something you shouldn't want to sleep on.
a car only a true Z purist can love, and I like it but I love the Z32 more. if I can ever get away from the Z32 then maybe i'd get a Z34
Would use it as a daily driver, Arizona has tons of driving roads
ive driven one of these. that rear view window is worthless. useless in stop and go traffic as well. there are two speeds
1. rocket ship
2. kill it
and yes, i am quite capable of driving heavy clutches... nismo just over did it a little on this car.
would i buy one though?
in an instant
Manual trans only and super low tech is definitely a deal breaker for me.
Why don't the guys at Top Gear USA knock on your door Cooley???
I daily drive this car everyday................ no issues... This man shouldn't review another car!
Ride hard. Ride deep. Go nismo
I heard nothing but complaints from this man. you buy a 370z if you want a true driving expirience, just man and machine
I agree
The reason i dont want the nismo package is because it doesn't have any functions and a really small back Mara view
"This is the worst riding car I've ever reviewed for CNET." say no more sir ROFL!
i can do 0-60 4.4~4.8 depend on how i launch with my Z
They should’ve kept this NISMO bodykit but added the 2015 NISMO’s interior to it. Theres actual downforce and aerodynamics that function.
I wouldn't know until I drive it myself it looks nice but then again for an everyday car not so much
This car is for drivers who buy the car specifically to drive and have fun. You dont buy this for interior fearures or ride smoothness. This is not a mercedes or lexus.
