Old age gets us only if we’re lucky. The Seiji I remember is the hip dude from the 70’s with the cool shirts and jet black hair. I’m grateful he’s still with us.
@@linglingisdisappointed im aware. but that doesn't make the comment age any worse. This was written a year ago and he was already quite old. And the expression is mostly used to mock someone.
Tears!! In 1967 I listened to him conduct Sibelius Sym 1. So energetic, his semi long hair bouncing as he led the orchestra. I was 19 and he not that much older… great memories!
RIP Seiji Ozawa. When people hear his name, they think of Boston. But when I hear his name, I think of San Francisco. In 1970, the Lowell High School Orchestra, in San Frncisco held a fund-raising concert in the San Francisco Opera House. Besides Stravinsky’s Firebird Suite, Copland’s Outdoor Overture, Gershwin’s An American in Paris, all conducted by our teacher, John Pereira, Mr. Ozawa took time out of his busy international schedule to rehearse us and then lead us in concert in Debussey’s Afternoon of a Faun and Bernstein’s Candide Overture. So not only did he help us realise our dream of traveling to Japan to represent San Francisco at the Expo ′70 in Osaka, but he also inspired us all in our future lives - many of us, including myself, went on to be professional musicians ourselves and having played under his baton and leadership was … inspiring. Thank you Mr. Ozawa!
Thank you for sharing your story. As a bay area native, it's lovely to know that he had such an impact on our music community even at the high school level, at a school I'm familiar with. Reading Murakami's conversations with Ozawa-san right now and I'm grateful that I got to come across your experience
@@billeldon - there are pictures of the Lowell Orchestra at S.F: International Airport in front of the Pan Am jet we took to Japan ... in the 1970 year book. With a paragraph of text about the trip. And small extra. At the Spring graduation, the orchestra played the Lowell hymn for the graduates to sing along the last time. The orchestra teacher, Jack Pereira, as was custom, let one senior orchestra member conduct the hymn at the ceremony. Since I'd conducted the basketball pep band that spring, he let me conduct the hymn at the graduation. My name is listed on the graduation program. (hint, hint)
Very sad to see him in this condition. I sang in the Tanglewood Festival Chorus with the Boston Symphony under his direction in the 80's when he was a vibrant man in his maturity. Only a few years ago I saw him do a splendid Symphonie Fantastique with the BSO and he was still in great form. "Golden lads and girls all must, like chimney sweepers, come to dust."
I am sure that marvelous music was in his heart before leaving this world. Beethoven’s music should be the last message for all human beings before the great moment
I just found out about the death of Ozawa Sensei......without a doubt a sensitive loss for the entire world of music....I still remember his performance of the 1812 Overture......may he rest in peace Sensei
It's not necessary to show a conductor like MTR Osawa in such conditions, I personally find it totally Kitsch, trying to get emotional 😭, not at all necessary. He had an incredible professional live and development worldwide and he didn't need to appear sitting like that and with no dents, please come on, that's a lack of respect. May he rest in peace, he was a wonderful artist and musician.
RIP to Seiji Ozawa, one of the most legendary conductors in history!

Made me weep. Loved Seiji Ozawa’s work. He was a great conductor and I’m sure is still a great musician at 87 years old.
RIP, your joy for music will never fade away
I have admired Maestro Ozawa since his days with the San Francisco Symphony. One of the greats. I will really miss him.
How could anyone watch this without bursting into tears? It's heartbreaking.....😢😢❤️
Rest in peace maestro.
Dear Seiji Ozawa, thank you very much for your wonderful interpretations of classical music. RIP

@@jean-jacquessimon6703 - why sad?
My wife was a student at Lowell then, I’ll have to ask if she remembers.

Seiji Ozawa has been a model for conductors, in his closeness and somewhat intimate communication with his musicians. En deuil depuis Montréal
En France aussi nous pleurons la disparition de ce géant de la musique classique😢 il était du même niveau que Rafael Kubelik ❤
Really music has the power to connect people’s hearts! ❤️
87, sitting in a wheel chair, and still going strong. Respect to Seiji Ozawa! R.I.P.
The older I get, the more filled up with joy and the sheer beauty of music, and it often spills out of my eyes at concerts. I can relate.
RIP Seiji, you are the one who inspired me into classic music

Ozawa said, in a published advertisement, "Classic music is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you get."
I remember him in Toronto.
Saw him in NYC, performed
" Atmospheres" from 2001 Space Odyssey.
