Gabby's Pizza is in Queens Village, that's a good couple of miles away from Jamaica.. Thanks for watching and sharing!!!

Yeah, I believe you are correct. The J line had sections removed up to 168th St, and this image is at the intersection of Jamaica and 150th. The tracks were dismantled around 1977 so I would likewise think that this picture is from the late 70s.

Cool, thanks for sharing that.. I have seen those dismantled tracks in other Jamaica photos but I've never bothered to do any research.. I figured it had to be a part of the J line though, but I wasn't 100 percent sure.. I was also thinking it could have been a part of the LIRR.. But now I know😎

My parents met in Jamaica, and my older sisters spent their childhood there. Thank goodness my mother was always strict and kept them in line. It was a rough neighborhood, for sure. My parents were able to move to Flushing by the time I came around. My mother told me that Flushing used to be very upscale and classy. Our house was very old but spacious with a yard, it used to be owned by a wealthy widow. But, even Flushing started declining in the 80s like a lot of NY unfortunately 😕 I definitely wouldn't hang around Jamaica at night nowadays.

Thanks for sharing Angie.. Yes, Jamaica was and still is pretty tough.. In the mid 20th century Queens was the ideal place to raise a family if you still wanted to stay in NYC without fleeing to the suburbs.. But by the 70' and 80's many Queens neighborhoods were deteriorating and were no longer safe havens from the rest of the city.. Though some parts of Queens still held up pretty well and were reasonably safe..
