The problem is that what they deem as 'affordable' often is too expensive! They need to use NUMBERS when they say 'affordable'. Affordable is $500 per month, not $1,500 like what they offer.

$500 in nyc? Maybe you can get a cardboard box. Utilties cost that much for the building owner for that 1 apt.

@@NeygarzruinedAmerica Exactly my point. NYC is completely unaffordable.

How about "DEFINE" what the word "Affordable" SHOULD mean, as opposed to pretending to use that word to MASK overpriced living spaces?

I find the word gentrification as applied to these Queens communities, inappropriate and offensive. These neighborhoods were actually perfectly affordable middle-class or working-class areas which do not need the snobbery and elitism attached to so-called "luxury housing".

Influx of greed does not mean lack of housing.

Went from single family homes to 200 family housing on the same plot Open your eyes and see the people who snaked their way to own that property how they did it and who they took out of there

Historically, cities go through phases of development, but this is on a whole new level. Even the "Development King", Robert Moses had his limits--Orchard Beach in the Bronx was something he did right. This, however is out of control. Some areas of my hometown, Bay Ridge, Brooklyn have become unrecognizable. Developers wield a lot of power, having Democrats and Republicans alike in their over-stuffed pockets. What scum! 💰

the rent should be 30% of your monthly income.

It’ll destroy the free market economy but that’s why we have socialist policies such as the New York City housing authority.

In Astoria Gentrification destroyed the neighborhood. Now we are living with drugged people all over, criminals, dirty streets and junk food chains. Astoria used to be a very nice Greek and Italian community. It is sad!

Affordable should mean the rent is 30% of expenses for someone making 30% of the average salary. If average salary is $80k a year rent is $600 per month.

they made the neighborhood more desirable and that is enough! Way better than the people prior to them who left the neighborhood in shambles with crime and degeneracy!
