Fun fact: At 2:05 take to the left and after 100-200 m there is a giant toad in concrete by the road. About 2 - 3 m high and comparable length, it was made by an artist to inform the public about the "toad tunnels" passing under the roads here. They are rather unique , made to ensure that the unusually great number of toads coming out of the hillside north of the main road is not run over by the increased traffic (when this new road was built) when they in the spring moves to the small lake south of the roads.
This road opened in 2012 (after 3 years of Construction) and the E39 was moved from the Folkestad Ferry, also an important short cut from Ørsta/Volda/Ulsteinvik to east Norway. The road was first proposed in 1877 (!) as a serpentine road through the mountain pass, eventually the road was constructed With a long tunnel (6,5 km) and flat.
Great video! You have to give the engineers credit for designing that road in such difficult terrain. As a bonus, the song is one of my favorites from the 1980s. I think the group is Scandinavian, too.
bedankt! Ik heb nog het nodige materiaal van 2015 & 2016. Ik film weinig in de winter, in de zomer film ik op vakanties een boel interessante routes om gedurende het jaar video's van te maken.
residents of Gloppen became very jealous of those from Stryn that this road was built, on the basis that they wanted a bridge from Gloppen to Nordfjordeid but not profitable in relation to the traffic volume and were not improved by the E39 going through strynefjellet, not much understanding that road construction is not measured by what a few want, but by traffic volume and social costs
The good thing about tunnels is that loads of excellent building material is produced, like crushed stone. Plenty building materials on site in Norway.
Bit of a late reply, but no, not really. There are surrounding national parks ( marked with green text on the map), it's just normal for a lot of places in Norway to look pretty pristine like that, large parts of Norway aren't in a national park though. www.google.com/maps/place/E39+%26+Kvivsvegen,+6110+Austefjorden,+Norge/@62.019508,6.4676987,9z/data=!4m5!3m4!1s0x4616f3697ea6d69f:0x465098fcff79a505!8m2!3d62.03736!4d6.4189198
Norway is in Europe, but not in the EU ;)But seems you are right, the government in 2000 decided to keep the yellow lines, and in fact now also used on motorways so if there is a yellow line on Your right hand you are heading in the wrong direction.
Yeah I was meaning the EU as continent, not as European union. I saw some finnish roads right now with Street View, but i find the norwegian signs better.
I Will Eat You The Finnish white/yellow system is actually quite clever and perfect for finnish conditions. Normal central line (short dashes, long gaps) is white, but warning lines (long dashes, short gaps) and solid no-passing lines are yellow. That is extremely good in winter when you cant usually see every bit of the central line because of the usual 1-2cm thick ice/packed snow layer on the road. But with the two-colour system, if you see any yellow paint through the ice layer you know it's unsafe place to pass.
Maybe thats why Teslas, US trucks and SUVs feel at home in Norway?. They have sold more in this local 5 mill people market than in all of europe together (Iceland and Luxemburg are also outside. Will britain join?). In Dec 2017, model X will be the most sold car in this market, followed by model S?
Your videos are the best! I always look forward to them. What a beautiful country! Question: what are those tiny brown little huts on the side of the road? Are they restrooms? Phone booths? Thanks!
ruclips.net/video/Jqy_aMAZjMY/видео.htmlm11s Kvivsveien was mentioned in this report about what went wrong with norwegian road building. Sorry, probably not that relevant since it is in norwegian. But your video reminded me of it.
Hello European Roads, I don't speak very good English. Merci, ;)

As always ... I love your videos in Norway ... and this song is absolutely amazing!

Prachtig gefilmd!
Ik volg je video's met veel plezier, zo zie je nog eens wat van de wereld!

Amazing video. Definitely appreciate this. Thank you
thanks for the tour
Magnificent, as always. Liked the tunneled intersection.

Norway doesn't disappoint either.
€ 110 million doesn't seem to be that much if you look at all those tunnels.
The good thing about tunnels is that loads of excellent building material is produced, like crushed stone. Plenty building materials on site in Norway.
Great video! Is any of that area protected as a National Park I wonder? I imagine it's a great hiking spot.

Great video!
Is Norway the only EU country having yellow lines like the US ?
Norway is not an EU member. By the way, Finland has a weird white-yellow system.

They are bus stops.
LegendMeadow Thank you! That had also crossed my mind. Have a good day!
Beautiful road and gorgeous scenery but the design would not meet the safety standards in the US.
super video.....👍👍👍👍
Is dit nou dezelfde weg waar ook het Laerdal (en tunnel) zit? Of is dat een andere weg?
Dat is de E16, dat is meer dan 200 kilometer naar het zuiden (minstens 4 uur rijden).

What do you disagree with?
Are you norwegian?
Kvivisvegen Kult !?
