Lugosi plays this role with such maniacal glee, clearly having the time of his life, that I actually find myself laughing with him and feeling guilty afterwards.
@@AnnaLVajda Bela was never addicted to heroin, he was on morphine and from injuries he suffered in the First World War and he overcame that addiction so stop slandering about Bela Lugosi if you don't know anything about him

Thank you so much for uploading this. The scene where Bela laughs above the newly-deformed Karloff is one of the most creepy and masterful pieces of cinema history IMO....
Agree! You could make the case for this being the best of all...even better than Dracula (where he didn't act as much as he lurked and leered. Only his Ygor in 'Son of Frankenstein' is comparable, in my view.
1:19 - I love that. Karloff was one of the few horror actors to escape the role that made him famous, but there's still some of the Monster inside of him. lol
Yeah. Universal played him down, but his talent made in the end being recognized as King of old school horror nonethless. His contributions with Ed Wood cemented his mysterious legacy even more. Wood was a damn visionary.
Excellent old classic.Bela and Boris on top form. Was considered so grim in England, that it led to a complete ban on horror movies there for a short time.
Bela played this role to a T, he gave us a Vollin who was respected yet still shady and perfectly captured a man who was not only obsessed and sadistic but had completely lost his mind
Bella’s reading or James Earl Jones’s reading on “The Simpsons” are my favorite “The Raven “ resections of the Edgar Allen Poe’s poem. Have a great day!
Lugosi reveals the human all too human side of all of us. He manifested what Nietsche wrote about in words. Unfortunately, most modern folk are over stimulated by media that lacks any soul at all.
First of all, so called Bela Lugosi" wasn't his real name. There was nothing wrong with his actual birth name, Béla Ferenc Dezső Blaskóobviously. He obviously "sold out" his birth name because of the shallowness of the entertainment industry?! Most likely the change was made as the result of a greedy Business Manager, with perceived notions of greater recognition accompanied with monetary gains? In reality, it's also shows blatant disrespect for one's parents & their family heritage, just to possibly obtain (not earn) a greater buck?!
@@buffalopatriot His stage name was always Béla Lugosi, even in Hungary. Lugosi means "from Lugos", the small town where he was born. He used the name Artisztid Olt for his early movie roles in Hungary.
It’s hard to watch Bela in this performance without laughing. How many times does he say the word torture? Also for someone who played Dracula his teeth are terrible.
The "sister movie" to this classic would be "The Strange Door" (1951) starring Charles Laughton and Boris Karloff. It also has a dungeon/torture chamber with a room where the walls come together. Laughton rivals Lugosi with his stellar performance in "The Strange Door".
@@johnwoa Laughton and Karloff...? You don't want to mess with those two since they're not really dead and are down here making trouble for everybody. I'll give that one a quick glimpse just to see them together. Gives me an idea for the website. Thank you.

In my eyes, this is a top 10 performance in film history. Lugosi was incredible.
No notes. Give this man an award FOR him. I heard he was buried in the cape.
Absolutely. One of the Greatest!!

I know I'm kind of off topic but do anyone know of a good site to stream newly released series online?
@Axton Mathias I watch on flixzone. You can find it by googling :)
@Keanu London yup, have been watching on Flixzone for months myself :)
@Keanu London thanks, I signed up and it seems to work :) I really appreciate it!!

Lugosi, Karloff, 2 Of Hollywood's Greatest Icons That Could Never Be Replaced ! R.I.P.
"Torture you" he says it like the happiest thing ever XD
He is seriously one of my favourite actors of all time.
"My hand isn't used to torture. Your hand must do it! My brain--your hand."
Bela had fun with this role 🖤💟
Bela is the star of this film, but Universal not only bills him second, but pays him so much less than Karloff. Universal treated Bela like shyyt.

Nobody gives two fucks for Bela.
There's scenery-chewing madness and then there's Bela. No one does crazy like Lugosi. Bravo sir!
Considering this is a few years after Dracula, Lugosi was still very handsome
53 at that time
Very true, his pictures when he was very young in some Army, and he is very handsome, any girl would throw herself at him.

"Bateman! If you touch that switch, I'll not fix you!" --- Dr. Vollin
Two fantastic actors together Lugosi and Karloff.
Proper acting, unlike a lot of the stuff you see today
Bela should've received The Golden Lampshade award for his performance. It's so GLEEFULLY over-the-top. I love Bela.
Bela Lugosi was one of the all time greats, so was Boris Karloff!!!!
His two greatest movies this one and The Black Cat
Exactly!
The Black Cat way before it's time a true Classic!
Don't forget Brooklyn Gorilla meets Bela Lugosi lol
He was pretty good in the Abbott and Costello movie of 1948, at the age of 66.

Bela was a force to be reckoned with in any role!
His Ygor in Ghost of Frankenstein was tremendous.
My God I saw this in 1990 and it horrified and satisfied me. Bela and that evil laugh was pure evil.
Judge Thatcher couldn't die in this film. He had to play George Bailey's dad in, "It's A Wonderful Life."
Thank you! Nice montage!

Bela Lugosi Us truly An Iconic Horror King !
1:23 Frankenstein roar

The undisputed king of universal horror.
The story that predicted the horrific cosmetic surgery in Hollywood since its creation.
Bela Lugosi plays a good maniac.
Black cat was his best, mind.

Strange the similarities between Robert De Niro and Bela Lugosi, when they are laughing maniacally, or just smiling or laughing normally.
Do you mind if I smoke? 🤣🤣
