PROJECT SYNOPSIS
Our project originated from a dream to unite the beauty of the land and the healing power of the jingle dance during these uncertain times due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The origin of the jingle dance to the Ojibwe people happened during the influenza pandemic of 1918-19. It came as a dream to a father whose daughter was sick with the virus. His dream revealed the new dress and dance that had the power to heal. When the dresses were made, they were given to four women to perform the dance. When the little girl heard the sound of the jingles, she became stronger. By the end of the night she was dancing too.
Our dream is to take this healing power to the land, to travel and capture a series of images to document the spiritual places where our ancestors once walked. Our goal is to unite and give hope to the world through art, dance and culture to help us heal together. We will travel the land and capture a series of powerful images to document spiritual places where our ancestors once walked. We hope you join us on this spiritual journey.

Hi all! We are back! Jacob Billy will be back next episode! Me & Him actually recorded an epic return episode and had tech issues. So we re-recoroded it and had tech issues again. We have it figured out now but I still wanted to put out an Episode asap so first one back is with The Jingle Dress Project. We're planning on reaching out to other Native Creators as guests so stay tuned!
Welcome back! We have missed you so much!
Yay! Glad you're back!
Kia ora. Pai ki te hoki mai, e hoa. Translation: hello good to have you back my friend
So glad you're back; I was seriously beginning to worry about you guys.
Dallas Goldtooth said in one of his lives that he was wanting someone to contact him again about appearing on Natives React, hope you reach out again Patrick. You, Jacob, and Dallas would make a hell of an episode :)
Don't worry y'all, we're working on an episode with me and Pat, but we had technical problems. So we working to get more episodes out with more laughter and guests.
Can't wait for the vlogs to come out. We missed you guys. ❤ 👍
You're bridging a cultural gap with your videos, laughter and guests. I was sooo worried that we wouldn't see you anymore. I'm glad that things are ironed out. It will be great to see you in the next episide! ALL my best to you.
Hey Jacob!
Been sending you healing love vibes!
Excited to see you back in the saddle. :)
We need more Jacob dances.
Same as the others, was very worried about you and Patrick.
Hope you can spend some time giving us an update on how you were surviving in the long quiet time.
Cheers.
The day instantly improves with a Natives React video
I agree! ❣
Agreed!
Right!
Yep😎👍
No argument here.
"Nya:wëh Sgë:nö" (still learning Seneca ...).
I love the jingle dress project girls! They have the best sense of humor too!!!
Now we only need to see them dacing in it.
So, (non-indigenous)Canadian here...I was sitting in a mall two Saturdays ago, in Nanaimo, BC, sipping tea waiting for my family to finish shopping, and a woman in her late 30s walked by, in a pretty lace blouse and a ribbon skirt, heels, shopping bag in one hand and looking down at her phone, her long, dark hair in two braids, with beads at the ends. The main part of the skirt was tourqoise and the ribbons were various colours, really pretty.
She looked amazing.
She looked up, caught my eye, and we smiled at each other.
I am so happy that despite the evil of the (far too recent) past to subvert indigenous art and culture, the Bastards did not, can not, and could never, succeed.
"Never. Let. The. Bastards. Win."
-my Scottish Father
The part with the ripped jeans and the cutoff jacket slayed me! Whenever my Native grandma saw me in ripped jeans when I was a teenager she would joke that the dog must have attacked me.
So glad to see you and the girls from the Jingle Dress Project back, just went and ordered my red shirt today after seeing them here. Thanks for supporting what they do and helping to reach even more native people ❤️
4:46 As a black woman, I can totally relate to this moment! We don’t always WANT to be strong, we just have no choice. ✌🏽✊🏽
These girls really need their own podcast! Maybe weekly they can talk about their project, where they're going or where they've been, and some funny experiences and memes also. I love all my indigenous brothers and sisters, may we all be blessed forever. 🙏🌞
I'm so glad to see you back! I was getting worried, and I definitely needed the laugh. Thank you so much for all your work!
I teach my first grade students about the jingle dress project and how a few people together can try and make a difference
They got jokes!!! I love these young ladies, thank you for having them on Patrick
i just did that too, checked the back of my head. I'm tall, and people sometimes comment about how good my posture is, I tell them that it's because I was raised in a cradle board. (Washo and Paiute from Northern Nevada). People tell me I'm lying because I'm light skinned, but both my parents were born and raised on the rez. People can be so mean.
Be grateful for that early posture training... So many people have spine and back problems due to poor posture ....
And nix on the haters .... they can't stand that you are both beautiful and native... you go, girl!
Callie - Read ‘There There’ by Tommy Orange. There’s all kinds of Indn’s out there cousin. I’m light skinned too but I know my heart is red.
I love this. I'm native Mexican by blood. But unfortunately, from the long history of my ancestors coming to the U.S.. On both sides of my family, my origin and family line has been lost. I don't know if I'll ever find out where my ancestors came from. But all I know is that I'm proud of my native blood.
Native in your heart is the start
Yup I’m mixed with Mexican and native from the US. I know my US side but not my Mexican side, and the office that had the records got burned down
thinking it would help I took a 23 and me DNA test. It color codes and matches the add mixes with the country of origin. For example, Scandinavian is dark blue and on the map, the countries like Sweden and Iceland are also dark blue. This chart has Indigenous American as yellow thinking that if I clicked it. It would highlight North America or even narrow it to Virginia, Tennessee, Kentucky, or something. So I clicked it and every country from Greenland to the tip of South America and everything in between was yellow. However, what it has helped with is matching me with DNA relatives and I can see what ancestors we have in common. Which I pretty well already knew but it's still kind of cool anyway.
Good luck with your search, genealogy can be very interesting. Start with yourself and go backward.
Also, if you were assigned male at birth and take a DNA test the results could show you your Paternal Haplogroup and where they originate from.
Native Mexican is indigenous! Don’t let that border divide us.
me too!! i've been trying to reconnect with my native roots
dang, i was just thinking about how much i missed this series !
When I was a teenager I grew my hair long, I learnt double quick time not to let my mum brush my hair, the pain is real!
I LOVE these ladies :) "I am resilient" after the couple vids. SAME, SAME, SAME! lol! Wish I could join that friend group lol! So glad to see you back Patrick, I missed these vids SO MUCH!!!! The Patrick roast continues with the hat hiding cradle head joke. Poor Patrick, you ok? lol
My mom was a jingle dress dancer before. love you're vids so much . I am also native Navajo and Hopi
you can tell they’re all besties because their laughs are all similar😂😂
I love these videos. It’s refreshing to watch and some of these things I can definitely relate to as a black woman. Peace and love to y’all 🤍🌞
Yay! So glad to see your back! Oh how we've missed your content & these girls are awesome! 👍🏽
So excited to see a new patrickisanavajo episode! While I miss seeing Jacob Billy, who can honestly be mad at the Jingle Dress Project ladies? I love them! Hope they have a blast in Alaska, wishing them a safe journey!

"You're so strong and resilient." YOU MADE US THIS WAY! ~ Oof, that's a serious mood right there. Preach!

Now having laughed my way through the episode, I wish you girls the best on your trip .... I'm always so impressed by how you continue to spread peace and love through what you do ....

Ayyyy,, My favorite peeps!! About dang time... Welcome back guys/ladies!!
Finally a video. I was starting to worry about you guys. The girls are soo beautiful!! Perfect beautiful smiles 🥰 I needed this Tonight 🤣
I'm a white guy who has had very little exposure to any of the different native cultures, outside of a few books and a couple of pow-wows. I know just barely enough to know how much I don't know, in other words. I really enjoy and get a lot out of your videos. You show a side of native humanity that is under represented in the media, I think. You show a lightness and humor that is really fun to watch and in your commentary you give us outsiders neat little tastes of culture and tradition too. So, thank you very much for sharing yourself with us.
No one here cares that you are white.
@@Lost_Hwasal And what do you mean by that? I'm curious.
@@pocketlama your whiteness has nothing to do with anything here. It is completely irrelevant to any discussion.
@@Lost_Hwasal Okay. That's what I thought you meant but I didn't want to assume. My whiteness has to do with what I wrote. It's laying out a picture of who I am as as partial explanation for why I've had so few experiences with native culture. This is to give perspective to why I feel particularly grateful for these guy's videos. They open a window on a culture with which I'm largely unfamiliar.
I don't have and haven't had a ton of exposure to native people partly due to my being white and living in a pretty white world and because of that these videos are a wonderful part of my slow education. So, I would argue that my whiteness is absolutely relevant to the discussion I started, in the comment section, where people make comments.
I think I would be more likely to agree if RUclips's comment sections weren't a completely open forum based on history, tradition, and on RUclips's rules. If I were entering a native space and trying to take up room then your comment would make more sense to me.
I'm happy to learn more if you disagree.
One final thing. Who are you? You're just an anonymous being to me. Are you native? Is there a reason you feel like you should comment on my way of describing myself?
Thanks for your admiration for my people and culture
Oh MAN!!!!!!! I've been patienlty waiting on y'all to come back. I'm happy your back.
Patrick, it's great to see you back. And thanks for having the Jingle Dress Project girls on, they are always good value.
I'm not native but am part Chinese and re the Rez Tash: my cousins can't grow tashes either and look silly when they attempt it.
Re the ripped jeans and half off jacket: My nephews girlfriend wore ripped jeans to Mum's birthday party way back BC (Before Covid). Mum told her she could buy better at the Charity shop. We all thought that was funny because Kate spend over $100 on her jeans.
I hope the Girls have a great trip up to Alaska and am looking forward to seeing you and Jacob again soon.
☮️❤️🦘🇦🇺

You guys are all adorable (Patrick too!) White girl here and Smoke Signals is one of my favorite movies. I met some of the cast at Central Wyoming College in Riverton Wyoming shortly after the movie debuted. My favorite line " there was 100 Indians and only 50 pieces of frybread. There was gonna be a frybread riot" I will definitely support your Jingledress project.
My day is always made the moment I see a new video for you guys!
