In fact, Piaf's work is rich in social commentary, though I wouldn't call it overt protest. Especially if you listen to the lyrics (which she mainly didn't write) of her early songs, they are filled with devastating images of French - largely Parisian - working class life. The anguish and the hopelessness of the poor is portrayed in various, typically heart-breaking ways. Someone could write a really rich essay on that milieu as portrayed in Piaf's songs.
@@jimchevallier528 Hello Jim , There’s a fairly recent group by the name ‘Aldous Harding’ whose singer is a Kiwi named Hannah (something). Most assume that Aldous is her name. I’m curious what you might think of her singing ‘Non, je ne regrette rien’ ? Find it (if interested) under Aldous Harding .
BRAVO
Wonderful ! Thank you for posting this .
Extraordinaire!!! Excelent!!! Merci beaucoup, infiniment!!!
She really needs to do more classic stuff. Fab.
Wow! What a voice.
Edith would have been very proud of her, as La Dame would be of most famous Brazilian actress and theater director Bibi Ferreira' s performance.
Thanks for this.

Killer version of "L'Accordéoniste" - one of my early Piaf favorites, and a song that still moves me to tears.

She fucking crushed this performance
She did
She can’t even sing or dance like Piaf. La foule was a disaster and disappointment
@@isakhan87 Sort of a scary disproportionate response to her talent...but ok
Yup! Now, I need to keep up with my French lessons on Duolingo!
@@AMReed8 hahaha love that you actually watched this
Wait--wasn't that her mother singing background on the first number? Kate McGarrigle?
Yup
Even one who eats the microphone ... terrible
Martha you’re too talented to do second rate songs. Stick to the best of the best. Quick, while you’re still young enough.
Just to be clear, these are great songs.
Just sometimes Martha doesn’t select the best songs for the level of her talents
Cringingly horrible. Piaf turned in her grave. 🥴
What's bad about it?
@@thim3336 teadm has a lot of wax in his ears.
And what the heck is she wearing?
This is a terrible préformante
