Powell Dragon Formula VS. Spitfire Formula Four

- Hey everyone. Went to the skatepark to recreate last week's clips using the Powell Dragon Formula. Then went to the ledge spot to try them out streetskating. To make a direct comparison. Hope this is informative.
#dragonformula #spitfire #skateboarding
If you skate crusty spots, rough asphalt or irregular surfaces, these wheels are ideal.
yes, i have 2 setups one for street skating and the other for like skateparks. The street one has dragons and park has 101 spitfires
saw the skating and immediately thought this review is going to be way more relatable to my type of skating. Thank you sir!
Nice review. Ive been on these wheels for a couple weeks now. Was a STF or OJ Nomads guy before so cant compare to Spitfire. I love these wheels. I primarily skate street spots. These slide better for me that any others Ive skated. They do bark too just not as loud as Bones or Nomads but they are still barking for me. They are fast too. In Bens vid he was saying they are slower but that is def not my experience.
Yeah fast for me. Haha.
The smoothness might throw some people off to think they aren’t as fast Spitties, but they are def as fast, if not faster, imo
Ye I love the nomads to I also liked the ricta clouds and have the dragons to
I'm from Salem ma just got back into skating 40 years old 200lbs love watching your vids you answered every question I have
Heck yeah!
I´m at mid 40´s. I always love hard rock wheels. But the powells are game changers. Very confortable (less vibration) and also more speedy in rough grounds than hard wheels. I higly recomend them.
Can't agree more
I love spitfire f4 conical fulls, my favorite wheels been them since back in the classic days, I'm dedicated to spitfire, thanks for the vid man, maby someday ill try em.
I like trying new stuff. It's a completely different feeling. I need to skate them for a while before I can give a full review.
I'm glad that you are testing them out. I almost ordered them like 2 weeks ago but hesitated. The next day they were sold out everywhere in Germany . They seem to be exactly what I'm looking for. A wheel that slides but is on the softer side for rough street spots and therefore is more gentle on my old 45 yo legs. I'm riding 53mm 99a Spitfire F4 Classics. Love em, but if I can have a wheel that's like them but at the same time softer and more forgiving on rough asphalt, I'm in for it! I'm skating 90% street. Most of our streets are smooth but some aren't. And those really shake you thru.
Definitely a fun first session. I'm excited to get more used to them. See how they last and preform at other spots.
@@KevinNiceTry Yeah! Can't wait to join you with the experience! I will grab them as soon as they are being restocked. But I will be getting the 52mm version. I guess they might be more comparable to my current Spitfire Classics (which are approximately only 46mm or less right now from powersliding a lot). The 52mm Dragons are pretty much like the Classics. Aren't the 54mm you are riding now more like conicals 🤔?
Yeah I wish I had got the 52mm. I was wheel biting a lot haha.
yo im 49 and i just started again.when i bought my board i couldnt remember what size wheels i used to ride.i remembered the 95a but not the 60mm.i ended up getting some 53mm 97a and i couldnt figure out why i was struggling to get up to speed.i cant stand small wheels.i ordered a pair of these in 58mm im expecting a night and day difference.
@@chrhadden Welcome back! 👍🙂 I really love the Dragons on rough ground. Been riding them last fall and winter. 54mm size. I'm on Bones X-Formula 54mm since spring and like them even more as an all terrain wheel. The Dragons didn't perform well at skateparks or in general at noseslides. Powerslides are sometimes unpredictable. The Bones are more like a softer version of the 99a F4s. I will try the 97a F4s next when the X-Formulas are done. Speaking of sizes: I started skating back in 89/90 with 60mm (slime balls etc.). Then they got smaller down to 38mm (World Industries times) and after that got bigger again up to 50mm in the mid/end of the 90's when I finally quit. Today I prefer wheels between 52 and 54mm. 😉
Always skated spitfires as well, usually the 99a and I’ve been skating the dragons for about a week now. I’ll be sticking with the dragons I think. I’m also in WNY and the ground is terrible but these wheels have made a huge difference in a lot of ways. I’m psyched on them.
Heck yeah! What size did you get? I wish I got the 52mm but I'll make these 54mm work haha.
@@KevinNiceTry I got the 52’s and I think they’re the v1s or something? They’re similar shape to a spitfire classic. They’re honestly perfect. I almost went 54 and I’m glad I got the 52 instead
Smart
Love all the dragon wheel content you've made! I've been skating mine a few weeks now and I can't go back! They are that good!
Yeah, I don't wanna go back haha.
Rough pavement outside my garage where I do a lot of flat ground and man the dragons made a big difference. I do switch them out depending on what skate park I go. Some are way more slippery than others so the extra grip helps a lot. Some parks I need the F4’s for that slide
Here in Brazil the Dragons cost like 2.300 dollars, lol i'm crazy to try them but i'm waiting for the price to lower a bit down. Thank you for the review
Great review! I liked your point about East Coast vs. West coast skating. I grew up in Baltimore (Shout out to Ridge Lumber R.I.P.) I'm in central NC now, roads and parking lots are awful, rough curbs etc. I'm also 37 anything to help handle the rough stuff is helpful as I'm finally starting to feel my age and years of Ice Hockey and Skateboarding have taken a little bit of a toll.
Hey hey, also grew up in Bodymore. Talk about East Coast Crust
Great review! I am a Spitfire F4 person as well but I now want to check these out. The streets here in Portland can be pretty rough and I’ve been thinking about a softer wheel. Thx!
Definitely worth trying. I plan on skating them for a month or so and giving a more definitive review. Thanks!
Good luck with the wokeism destroying your city!
Here in Germany and far away from the next skatepark those wheels changed everything for me. I can finally ride around the city on my board. Before the Dragon Formulas I rode Formula Fours and I will never get back to them.
Haha yeah I'm staying on the dragons
@enasnl127
Love these wheels. Been on them for 6 months or so now. I'm 36, married, with 4 kids (for perspective...lol) . I can skate longer with the Dragon formula. They're way easier on my feet, knees, joints, etc. Soreness isn't near as bad after a long session on a regular 99/101a. I'll sacrifice a little bit of speed for comfort at this point. Great review. Love the vids!
Thanks!
G Slides are the most comfortable wheel that slides extremely well I’ve ever ridden. Some just don’t find them aesthetically pleasing lol. They are wide like longboard wheels but are excellent for street vert or cruise. I have the Dragons and it’s not comparable in comfort.
Get some ceramic bearings..speed
@@alstone5005g slides are definitely longboard wheels
I love it. An initial thoughts vid with the follow up. I’m getting a set because the tingling on my feet from skating lots is just getting annoying.
dig Spitfires and still the go-to hard formula, but dragon wheels have been awesome
Not about wheels, but about the frames you shot here. A wonderful landscape in the place of this skatepark, and the weather in the video makes it very pleasant to watch.
Thanks!
Cool showcasing Buffalo 🦬
I picked up a pair at Escapest skate shop in Kansas City yesterday. I haven't put them on yet.
We will see how it goes.
Another solid video Sir, looking forward to your long term review. Stay Rad.
Heck yeah. Let me know what you think when you set them up.
@@KevinNiceTry will do
I really doubted the hype, from the beginning I heard those, who rode them as "experimental" wheels saying like "these will change street skateboarding" and I was like " ... yeah sure, whatever"
being so hyperbolic couldnt convince me of anything.
then they came out and I saw some videos and I saw them slide.
I've been riding wheels around that hardness before and knew they were quite alright on rough streets, but the slide was awful.
seeing how well these wheels actually slid, it made me curious and so finally I gave in to the hype and bought them.
I was totally convinced that no wheel could ever live up to the hype, cause thats how the hype always works.
however, I was wrong!
for the first time probably ever, the hype was justified (imo)!
they ride sooo good over almost any terrain.
I rode my F4s from the train station back home one day and at times even downhill I would slow down so much, because the asphalt was so rough I had to push alot.
few days later I made the same way on the dragons and it was night and day, really
they are not quite as quiet as cruiser wheels, but they do absorb vibrations very very well, truly impressive!
and the slide on rough ground is insane!
I totally love em!
so in the skatepark I still ride my F4s cause I like the noise and hardness, but the dragons I can actually ride to the park as well as in the park, if I want to, so thats awesome!
for comparison: I also had the OJ nomads 95A before and wanted them for that purpose - they disappointed me.
nomads were not bad, but too hard for the rough streets and too smooth (aka bad slide) for the park - pretty much the worst of both worlds.
the dragons are the other way around: amazing slide, easy enough on rough streets - I even rode over copplestone a few times and it didnt feel like I would die at any second.
so at least for me personally I can say these wheels are great!
I am repeating myself, they are good on rough ground and they do slide very well.
if you only skate smooth skateparks, I dont think they'd be worth it at all, cause there you wouldnt have any benefits really and F4s are probably better there.
if you skate any rough parking lots and whatever, do yourself a favour and try these out.
as a final anecdote: I am still somewhat of a beginner and I am just learning to powerslide properly: on my F4s they're coming good, the nomads were pretty bad on any ground, I also have 90A mini logo's, which are great for cruising, but hard to slide for me.
the dragons are by far the easiest for me to slide, on ashphalt, not sure about slick concrete, but when the ground is a little rough, these slide amazingly well.
very good to practice my slides, great for bombing (small) hills.
bro ur not the only one knowing the hype. its the same with cariuma and every skater wearing them when in reality i skate fucking nike sb dunks cupsole for fucking life. early 2000s OG skater sand will never buy vuls again ive had many and i hate them. these wheels are a 93a which is on the soft side. couple of things why people wouldnt skate them, 1 they are not loud, 2 some people like crispiness and u cant get that from a softer wheel. the landing has got to be loud with a boom mic and death lens. so to watch footage and not hear wheels isnt a cool thing, just like some people like to take their shields off of there bearings, because it gives a different sound and like mark appleyard says, it makes u sound like a G rolling down the street lol.
@@stuartsherlock8322 yup kinda what happens with cars not being loud anymore. But we all want a good sounding car lol
Have u tried the mini logos 95A?? Was planning on trying them out first...🤔🤔✌️✌️
Im from Boston and this video is what I needed to see! Thank you dude im ordering them today. I been on f4 spits 101 great at park but eastcoast streets nope
The dragons work good at the park not as good as f4 but the benefits in the streets are worth it.
@@KevinNiceTry what is the slide like in terms of hardness, like is it like sliding a 99a? weird question i know
The best part of talking a 20 year break from skating I finally stopped pushing mongo since it even felt awkward pushing the wrong way I'm getting used to doing the right way one thing though I can only go out and push around for like 10-20 minutes at a time because my legs and ass are killing me 😂😂😂
😂😂😂
Oh ye had that last year I hadn't skated on like 15 years just bought a complete used that for a few months then got the skate madness now I have skateboards lol 2 are completes the rest I just built and bought
Good review👍
I ride formula 101/54mm on a popsicle 8,5" and Bones 104/60mm (the hardest you can get in the market) on a shaped board 10,25". I skate only, transition.
I got the dragons 56/mm (been using them for couple of moths already with both set ups) and love the feeling of these wheels. They ride incredible. the only one "problem" I have with it, its grinding *metal copings at skateparks.
For his I recommend bit extra wax on the trucks , as well on the face of the wheel that is looking towards the trucks (hope you get what I'm pointing). Helps to not get stoke.
For all the rest, amazing wheels and your knees gonna be greatfull for it ;)
By the way: if you are a powerslide enthusiastic, can be hard to get them down on bowls with fine and nice concrete. This can be a thing against?
If you street skater.. youll get the best wheels ever.
In conclusion, i'm taking the dragons as a complementary set up I like to skate here and there. Every skater transition or street should have them on the side.
Cheers.
I agree with you about Ben's review. It kinda felt rushed to be honest. I mean, I don't think wheels get a fair review when a skater doesn't get used to what really will always be a wheel with more friction than a super hard wheel. 93A vs 100a or harder will always not be the exact same experience. I think the same applies to his very old Tensor Mag lights review. It was pretty obvious he had already decided beforehand it could never be great, when actually it is probably one of the best trucks out there, especially for street skating. And for older guys like myself. Not to mention how you can even things out by riding a wider deck anyway. There also seems this idea that a somewhat softer wheel could never slide or didn't exist previously, but this is false anyway. To be honest, there are 97A and 95A options available out there (Spitfire F4, but also Mini Logo), that are truly great. I ride Mini Logo 95A wheels on two of my setups and ride a 97A set of wheels on another one. I don't think I would want 99A or 101A on those ever again. I mean, there's no point. And quite a few slick skateparks actually benefit from wheels that are ever so slightly more soft, providing a bit more grip. I'm sure riding 100A or 101A is something that works for a lot of people, but I prefer a bit more grip on my local parks that are kind of slick / smooth.
Couldn't agree more.
I was thinking on getting the 95A mini logos before getting dragons 🐉 🤔 now i think I will thanx 👍 🤘🤘✌️✌️
716!
I asked them for 2 days now:
Paint wore off, don't slide on smooth concrete which is disappointing. But other than that, on the streets they feel and slide well. The lack of barking throws me off, I think the spitfire 99a are better fit for parks.
Btw, all of the tricks you did with the spitfires looks way better, lol.
So so excited! I got some for my boyfriend for Christmas I can't wait to give them to him!
BEST REVIEW, SO FAIR.. THANKS MAN. 100% 🔥
I really Enjoy all your videos they are pretty informative and love the skating you do. It inspires me to skate . You should do a video skating your dragon wheels and ace classic on a set up. That’s what I ride now but I would love to see you skate it. Unless your skating that in this videos badass thank you.
Thank you! I actually gave the dragons away. Thought someone else could give them a try. I liked them and did what was advertised but definitely slower on certain grinds. At the end of the day, the 99a spitfire formula fours work best for my skating.
I had to use Indys standard orange bushings, at my Tensors Maglite! I wheelbite slamed myself to to the ground hard. But when i borrowed indys all went well ! Nice session and love from Sweden
tensor bushings are the shittest ever. u lean at certain degrees and its got like ridges slots kinda thing. i had to put my bones medium bushing in them.
I dont know, man. I have a feeling I'm not going to like them but part of me wants to try them. I'm pretty sure its the hype because otherwise I wouldn't care... I wish there was a Rent-a-Wheel service for skateboards xD
Yeah its definitely not for everyone. I like messing around and trying new stuff. I also paid for them so I'm going to make them work hahaha. I can't afford to buy stuff and not skate it.
@@KevinNiceTry I hear ya. that's why i didnt get a set. I cant afford to buy things I'm not going to like xD
I’m too damn old for my 101 so I got a set of these coming Monday. I think these are going to be nice on street.
i love oj nomads, and their key frames. currently skating frames right now and i love it. i’m not a very technical guy so for slappys and wallrides just turn them inside out, to grind better
I have the F4 and dragon wheels, love them both
East Coast street skater here well into my 40's. Been on these for a couple months now. I don't think I can go back. I like the cushy quiet ride and they're fast.
Sometimes I miss a harder wheel but then I ride over some cracks hahaha.
Sometimes I miss a harder wheel but then I ride over some cracks hahaha.
Thx cause this is the review l wanted cause l run spit f4s & am forced to be interested in the powell ds due to all the hype & promotion on them. 👍
Haha glad I could help
I love the dragon formula Wheels personally. I've only had 1 set and I'm still using them.
I want to get the green dragons next and also the cubics that Andy Anderson has been working on with George powell
Hi Kevin, real thanks for this review, i will buy Dragons tomorrow... But please let me know why now the wheels are inversed in the skateboard worlwide ? Thanks
Watching your tailslides on transisiton makes me hesitant to buy these. But at the same time my skatepark is probably as rough as that ledge spot and the quarterpipe has no coping and is super crust. Might be the perfect wheel for my area. West coast small town Canadian weathered concrete is similar to the east coast it looks like lol
Those are dry cement quarters and I was definitely playing it safe because of the wheels. After a few sessions I'm confident I could do them way better now haha. If that makes sense.
@@KevinNiceTry Yeah our qp has all the aggregate exposed so it probably slides like a dream with these wheels
I liked the old spitfires, the ones that used to flatspot everytime you did a powerslide. The formula four are not for me, they just don't roll well on most surfaces, I have a set of them and the bones stf, I prefer the bones, but for me honestly, they're both perfect surface only wheels... One of my feet was rebuilt, with serious ligament damage, so I can't cruise locally on either. I basically have to carry my board or drive to the park because of the local surfaces. Another thing I've noticed is that the smallest pebbles stop these things, I was on a mini ramp the other week, and I couldn't see any rubble until I got right down to see what tripped me, (schoolboy error, I should've swept it). On the old spitfires I could roll over the pavement in front of a shingle driveway where the shingle had been kicked all over the pavement and just cruise over it comfortably. No exaggeration!
Maybe my truck are actually to blame for that in fairness, I used to tighten them until I could one wheel nose manual with no risk of wheel bite, and I can't skate them anywhere near that tight these days, It's pretty much been a 15 year break from skating, I can barely ollie now!
Great review! I might get those next winter when I'll go in a park under a bridge where the ground is awful.
Thanks! Definitely should if the ground is bad. Haha.
I just tested mine. I have two pair, the classic shape dragons and I have the conical shape dragons. First I will describe the classic shape dragons 54mm. What I previously have been riding are the spitfire 97A classic shape 54mm for my comparison. I skated three different surfaces from smooth to rough, then actually crusty. I did power slides, reverts, and very fast pushing to see how they hold my speed for street skating. On a scale from 1 to 10, the spitfire 97A felt about a 1-2 point difference from the Dragons in 4 different ways. It felt a 2 point out of 10 difference in speed. the Spitfire 97A classic shape was faster than the classic shape dragon on all surfaces. It felt one point difference in vibrations, the dragons translating less vibrations, but just by one point on the roughest surfaces. The slide ability of the dragons in classic shape was about 2 points less slick than the spitfire 97A classic shape on all surfaces. And lastly the sound was about 1 point louder for the spitfires vs the quieter dragons. Now I will describe the conical shaped dragons in 56mm. The 56mm dragons were about 2 points different in speed from the spitfire classics 97A, the spitfires being faster = less need for pushing. Slide Ability felt 1 point less slippery compared to the spitfires. Vibrations were about 2 points softer on the dragons vs the spitfires. And lastly, the sound was even less at 2 points quieter for the dragons vs the louder spitfires while riding, HOWEVER they were louder when sliding about 3 points vs the spitfires. Over all, this was on a scale from 1 - 10 and so these differences were small. The best thing I could do from here is to get the spitfire 97A in conical shape to see who the true all terrain winner is. Since the spitfire 97A classic did so well against both the dragons (only a 1-2 point difference in softness feel), I am going to assume the spitfire 97A conical will make up for the vibrations difference and retain the speed.
After all this time what is ur conclusion . Do u prefer the dragons , classic or conical. And which is better for street terain in comparison to each other.. I’ve just got back into skating and have bought the dragons. But a new deck I’m getting was thinking of trying some new wheels. I skate mainly street which in the Uk is rougher
@@leesouthward47 The conical dragons are my favorite wheel for absolutely everything now. I see the benefits of the spitfires only in a smooth cement skatepark. The Dragons allow me to fly through the crustiest terrain, even cracks and occasional patch of sand or dirt, especially in the dark, and gives lots of confidence. They slide better than the conical spitfires and retain speed for coasting longer. And, even though they slide easier, they still stick better when you're not trying to slide, in the case of a wooden park that may have dust causing spitfires to be a little too slick. If you have just one setup, one board, and like the idea of always having it in your trunk and going for a skate anywhere at any time, the conical dragons are incredible. The spitfires just DONT give you that kind of freedom. And I'm the kind of person who likes to be simple. I want my one board to be my favorite board like a swiss army knife, capable of anything I want to do. I don't want to change my wheels and tinker with things when I'm wasting valuable skate time. I understand why a lot of people like spitfires. It's like a smooth porsche on the smooth track vs a Subaru WRX that can still perform on the track but can also do everything else. I'm the WRX guy. In fact I have one.
@@shaun8062 thanks for the input. I’ve been riding the dragons for a few months and do love them. I just got a Black Label board to set up and was curious what the spitfires were like in comparison. And maybe setting that them. But I’m still research wheels at the moment . I do like the dragons I have though.
When u do the front grinds do u feel the resistance? The squeak sounds like it but if it doesnt feel like it that would be great :)
Yeah, it definitely grabs a bit. I switched back to spitfires. My crooked grinds suffered from the dragons. It's definitely a fun wheel and has a purpose.
Heard so much good about these wheels. Man! I wish it was possible to get them here in Norway. I usually skate spots with pretty ruff ground, so this would be perfect for a 41 year old back. :-D Sometimes I put on some Ricta or Oj´s. They work on grinds, but to soft for blunt etc. :-( NIce skating by the way!
Thanks! Yeah definitely grab a set when the release over there. If you're over 35 these are a game changer haha. My feet felt great after skating today.
Just tried these 52s, coming from F4 101du, in a smooth skatepark. I do powerslide a lot and I’m torn:
Pros:
- they are faster (than my old 101du conical, which are around 50mm)
- Manuals feel nicer and go further
- kickflip felt really clean
- first feeling was that they slide as well as 101s
- can easily do reverts, tail slides and 360s on flat
- quiet, though do make some noise if you do a long powerslide.
Cons:
- quiet, coming from 101du you’re almost going silent. If you do a lot of Powerslides - it feels like you’re losing 50% of fun due to almost no noise. Also no one will hear you coming.
- back powerslides are harder, though probably a matter of getting used to it.
- couldn’t do a back tailslide, was getting stuck
(Still vibrate on asphalt but much smoother).
Only tried for about an hour in the dusk. Will try for a week or so, though not sure if I can go without noise in a busy skatepark.
Been riding the dragons for a year.
Switched to formula 4s and instant ly switched em back....dragon changed the game.
Would you recommend these or spitfire Formula Four for an older guy starting out skating bowl and wouldn't mind using it in the street for regular skateboarding now and then?
Great for starting out. I definitely recommend them for street if you're older and new to skating. They will work in the bowl as well, maybe not as fast as a spitfire in the bowl, but still works.
@@KevinNiceTry Sound like it could be a match for me. Might have to get booth to compare eventually though... I hear some recommend Bones SPF for concrete bowls over spitfire f4... New to your channel and really appreciate the content so far and thanks for the fast and helpful reply!
Thanks for watching!
Just got mine! I teach on them in a few days. So stoked!
My dude answering the real questions. I also was dissatisfied with Ben Degros's video on these wheels. Excited to hear more from you on these! Right now I am on some Conical Fulls. Do you think it is worth switching over to the Dragons?
If you skate more street then park or your park is rough then yes. If you skate the smooth skatepark mostly then no. Haha. If you're over 35 yes and under 30 no. Haha.
I really get the mental thing they feel so grippy the 1st few times you try your brains going theres no way these are gonna slide. Then you finally just let it happen and your thinking wow I actually had alot of control in that slide. where as on formula fours I alwaysfeel like the boards about to slide out from under me.
Yeah exactly. It's just like anything new, gotta learn it. Manuals feel so good on the dragons. I feel a lot more confident on them.
If you like spitfires but want the smoothest ride over rough ground just try out their 97 duro formula four wheels they come in a rage of shapes and sizes I prefer a 99D but the 97's do feel a little lighter on my feet if I can I grab those I usually do you can still slide around like a 99 would slide keeps the loud screeching great wheels
Can anyone tell me what that little half circle notch is on the inside of the dragon wheels?
Im 100% sold on my dragon 54s outside skating. Got hard spitfires for indoor spots
Very nice video!
Thank you!
ive been thinking to get a set of dragon wheels but i had a feeling that i might regret it. i can skate my spitfire classics in certain degree of rough asphalt or rough pavement in skatpark. Most likely i got used to it. i think i will stay with my spitfire f4 for slide ability.
nice review by the way 👌🏼
Dragons slide better
@@vincentparsons8149 thanks for your input. does it slides well in both asphalt and smooth pavement in park?
Just picked up some 99A F4 Classics.
I love the Dragons, but the Spitfires are my Childhood wheels. I can't forego the sound and feel of the harder wheels.
Great review. Thank you.
No problem. Glad it was helpful. I'll do an in depth review after a couple months.
Thank you loving the content especially this comparison I'm kind of sold on it now I got to go get a pair of dragons and check these suckers out keep up the great work. That's how the pros do it 💥🤙
good shit. subbed
Appreciate that you changed only the wheels and kept the rest of the setup the same. Curious why you went with a 54mm dragon when your F4s are 52mm?
I wanted to try 54 spitfires next but then these came out so I went with that. Just wish I got the classic v1 shape. Other then that they are awesome.
@@KevinNiceTry Fair enough. Why the regret on the V4? Far as I can tell eyeballing specs the V1 is slightly narrower than Spitfire classic and V4 slightly wider, but those differences are much slighter than the classic vs all the other Spitfire shapes
I'm just used to the classic shape but honestly these skate great.
@@KevinNiceTry If you do get a V1 let us know how it compares. My guess is that the difference will be subtle as they’re both similar in shape to the spitfire classic. The V6 shape is probably a more dramatic difference, possibly like a spitfire radial.
Hi man! I have f4 classic 54mm 97a..are there many difference (crusty and asphalt street) with Dragons? Thanks.
I never tried the 97a I always road the 99a so I couldn't really tell ya. Sorry.
@@KevinNiceTry thanks!
What f4 classic 97a like I might just pull trigger and get some I like the ricta clouds oj nomads and the dragons
Make them wheels Bigger!
Mr Powell
Im kinda late but i usually skate spitfire classics and i want to switch to dragon wheels.. so whats yout thoughts guys?
They do bark after days of use, I notice they feel slow on wood, when I first bought them I was disappointed %100 , but after a month I ended liking them, I can go over rough surfaces like nothing and rarely get pebble launched they are like a Mercedes-Benz they are comfortable, perform well and have special features like sliding, but they are not like 101 a nor 80a they are somewhere in between
I never knew that squeaking sound was something unwanted. For me it’s Sweet scratching noise like when you mix vinyls
When the asphalt is fresh or just not crusty it’s hard to beat that hard wheel. But when they are crusty those Dragons are a dream.
My streets around here are hella crusty at times and I’ve been looking for a good wheel that could be a good hybrid. I’ve ridden Spitfire Formula Fours 99a and 101a, OJ Keyframes 87a and OJ Nomads 95a around here. The Keyframes are good for speed but don’t slide well, the Spits give you no speed whatsoever and the Nomads were an okay medium with a little slide and a little speed. But I’ve had the Dragons for like two weeks now and they seem to be able to do it all.
I got the V4 54mms. Going to swoop for some of those more Classic shaped 52mm ones once they are back in stock.
Haha yeah. Definitely agree. I'm on the 54mm as well wish I stuck with the 52s but they work.
@@KevinNiceTry 52mm is the sweet spot I agree. I found a new spot yesterday really close to me where they must have recently put down some new asphalt. This pleases me greatly because I am not ready to give up my Formula Fours. But these Dragons man, they've got a certain je ne sais quoi.
Have you ever tried the F4 97a they stopped making them this past year
No I haven't. I actually just ordered some spitfires though. Video updates soon.
my 50+ year old legs feel fantastic on the dragon... i will stay with it.
i own and have ridden over 50 set's of wheels. spitfires are the shit. try the new 97a.
Well done , I got dragons they nice 👍
Heck yeah!
Spitfire formula 4s all day. The classic wheel shape is the best looking wheel in the game.
I can't understand how people like hard wheels that rattle. I think skaters just like the abuse. But to me I like luxury when I do grinds and 540s. I want to be pampered when I land my Nollie heels...
“I want to be pampered when I land my nollie heels …..😂😂😂 quote of the century
I been using ricta clouds forever but I also skate a concrete park with a lot of vert
dragons are over rated, after using them i switched back to 99 and realized i can go over just the same cracks and rocks it really does not matter. you need to slide so harder wheel is always better
Are those wheels you skated the V1's or V4's?
Haha to be honest I don't know. I just ordered the 54mm ones. Hahaha.
Those look like the 54x34 V4 shape
Yeah I believe they are.
yeah, fresh intro again!
Omg your from buffalo me to Lasalle is so nice
Heck yeah
@@KevinNiceTry that's so crazy man ..I didn't think youtubeers would get a follow cause well were from buffalo this is so cool maybe I'll try again super awesome man maybe I'll see you
For sure I skate early at the park on weekends. Like 7-9am.
At the street spot when you came out of a noseslide you almost stopped rolling. So they are slower than Spitfire? The spitfire f4 which duro? Was it the f4 97A? If so, 97A and 93A is still a big difference to compare tho. Drag on's most dad wheel I think. Try some granite or marble ledge, I bet they'll stick.
Definitely didn't almost stop. Might be the camera angle but as far as noseslides for me go those slid great haha.
@@KevinNiceTry No, not the angle. Not the sliding part either. It is coming out of the noseslide. The landing part, after that you almost seemed to slow down. You had to push right after the landing to keep speed. I imagine softer wheels absorb at impact, so this can slow down your speed. Your thoughts on this?
@water b water. your not kevin. Not the sliding part dude. Dad Ben said they go slower than spitties. How's the wear on them?
what size are you riding in this video?
54mm
@@KevinNiceTry cool thats the size i was planning on getting! thanks for the reply and solid review 🤙
For sure! Thanks.
Spitfire for life
Ben said if he ever sees you you're "catching that fade"...Whatever that even means lol
I've talked to Ben. He's a great guy. So that's doubtful. Haha.
@@KevinNiceTry lol I know man. That was the joke. Haha imagine Ben saying that. But yeah you're definitely right. He was way too submissive of them but is open about his undying love for the spitfires. Just didn't give them enough time like you said. Have you tried the 97a nano cubic dragon formula ones yet? Supposed to be closer to the F4's 99a but with the benefits of the dragon formula
I'm not a fan of the shape of the nanos. I went back to Spitfire 99a Formula Fours, and it kinda works best for the skating I do. I might get some dragons if I wanted a trick at a crusty spot. Other than that, I'm happy with spitfire.
I feel like these wheels are made for real street not skate parks
These wheels honestly sucked for me at the skatepark. Now in the streets there really isn't a better option but if you are a 1 set up type of guy I think a formula 4 conical full is still the best bet. Cheers
They should make them 96A
Maybe great for slippery parks
gee i wonder which won💀
I've watched multiple reviews and to be honest I had no Idea so many people skate Bones STFs. I tried STFs awhile ago and they flatspotted constantly. I have one friend that swears by them but all of my other friends won't even touch them, never again.
I tried them ages ago and hated how they felt. So plasticity. Then I tried formula fours and never looked back. Until the dragons. Every time I skate the dragons I love them more.
@@KevinNiceTry Formula Fours all the way. Been loving the Conicals
I’ve been waiting 30 years for wheels like these.
They skate anywhere. Anywhere.
In my opinion, if your not skating a wheel for atleast half a year or until you wear down the wheel a few MM, you don’t fully know the wheel
The noise is the only thing that bothers me. Idk
I thought it would bother me but I got used to it relatively fast.
Looks like the formula 4s slide a lot better…
I wouldn't say "a lot" better. That wasn't the point though. I was showing the dragons sild on a dry cement quarter pipe.
@@KevinNiceTry I understand the dragons are supposed to be the all terrain solution. I’m just saying, that they don’t seem very slidey. Looked like it was a struggle to get a slide, especially on that tail slide fakie. My point is that there’s probably always going to be some give and take when it comes to wheels
Still seems too sticky for my liking
He usually does really complete reviews I was surprised how shit his dragon review was
I will wait for spitfire to respond. Not giving powell money.
dont buy dragons unless your a filmer
Nah you can tell they stick 👎
