The media hated Harper because he didn't let them set the agenda, stroke their fragile egos, and make them feel important. In my view, it all boiled down to this.
We no longer have an independent corporate media in Canada. What we have instead, a number of corporate PR firms with their financially falling legacy broadcast and print monopolies left scrambling for clients in a disappearing market, and a federal government all too happy to pay to utilize what power those monopolies still have remaining to craft the public debate.
Being moderate is rare these days. MSM wants the extreme because that’s the grain of sand which, they think, yields a pearl. I yearn for honest journalism and moderation.
Plumbers have codes and standards, as do Electricians, Doctors, and presumably lawyers. Archimedes was able to describe in detail a variety of rules for moving weights and water something like 200 years after Greece had began voting out governments.. why then is there still no actual code of actual standards for our modern political systems?

What we really need are people to be active in politics not just election time, but all year every year. Not just in federal politics but school boards, county, town , city and provincial politics or we will be going through the same mess time after time.

Back in the1990's I was researching and charting mass media agglomeration as a research assistant at UVic....we went from literally hundreds of media outlets to by 2000 the world was down to six massive corporations....at the time, Sony, Bertelsmann AG, Viacom, Disney, News Corp and Time Warner.....who answer to shareholders....so, if there was some serious safety issue news involving an airliner in Halifax...there would be a small article buried in the paper as it would negatively affect an associate, the boards of directors are absolutely incestuous with all the major corporations have seats on the media boards. It isn't altruistic...as Rupert Murdoch once said "I love to own newspapers, they tell people how to think"....
We need to be a little less "Canadian" and stop rolling over for this corrupt and inept government! We need to speak up and maybe even be a little rude about it.

You can figure out where someone gets their information ie. News in about 2 minutes if you talk issues with them.. that's where the divide starts and grows
