I feel that it has a lack of high chroma colours. Pro acryl and tt combat have the same issue. Focus on opacity leads to desaturated colours. Even looking at them just coming out the box I’m looking and going “lot of white in there” desaturated colours and pastels. One thing I always think is an absolute requirement in a set of paints is your primaries in as pure a form as possible. 6 of. Orange toned red Blue toned red / magenta. Red toned ,Egg yolk yellow Blue toned greeny Safety vest yellow Red purple toned blue Green turquoise toned blue. These should be highest chroma possible. Ie no white added or opposite colour wheel added. Wonder if you could look out from the starter set which covers these if any and let us see them thanks.
Something I saw Poorhammer do recently(ish) was a list of their favourite paint of various colours. Would be curious to see a similar take from yourself. Theirs was a bit of an eye opener, grabbed a new white off their recommendation and have been blown away by it. Given you seem to have loads of paints too, might be a good watch :D EDIT: I just clocked your T-shirt. Phenomenal!
Durability. I primarily paint as a wargamer. There was alot I did not like about the old war paints , but found them truly durable (but that may be because of the number of layers I needed to put down).Vallejo model color had a poor rep for for ware and chipping, one I have personal experience with. This was one of the reasons they launched game color. However the "new" formular for game color seems to bring it back to model color formulation. So please check on the durability of the new fanatic paints. Maybe a comparative test with other popular paints? (You did say you 20 brands :) ).
Sam Lenz working with and using them is probably the biggest endorsement of this new line of paints. He's not exactly your corporate shill type of guy.
I was hoping they might go down this route, whether that be a small box containing 1 of the colour groups or a bigger one containing several (eg all of the blue or green sets).

In the (way longer than I want to admit) time I’ve been painting I’ve tried a lot of paint. I still have old GW pints, P3, AP War Paints, minitaire and most recently speedpaint 2.0. I use them all and think my go-to when not speedpaint is warpaint or p3 depending on the colour I need. If the fanatic range is analogous to the warpaint range but with better coverage, I’ll give it a shot as existing colours run out. Thanks for the great review. And Cookie Monster does NOT have a drinking problem. 🍪🥛😅

I'll probably add a few colors that closely match a color some companies have stopped producing. I also always liked AP's washes even if they dried glossy, do the new batch dry glossy or do they have a matte finish like their speed paints?
I just pre-ordered the entire paint range box set, which comes out in March, so am definitely looking forward to painting my minis with the new range. I LOVE their speed paint range, and that's what made me drop a shed load of money on the pre-order deal for the big full range set :-)
I thought I read preorder in January released late January early February. I am guessing they are receiving so many orders that this may have pushed the date back… I just wish you could order more of their warpaints medium as they say not to use water to thin their paints due the amount of pigments

I’m still frustrated that I pre-ordered the 2.0 mega set and then afterwards they launched the complete set. Now there is no good way to fill the gaps without either doubling up or paying more to buy individually 🙁
Preordered the mega set, looking forward to it having recently got into Army Painter with the impressive SpeedPaint 2.0 most wanted set. I asked on the book of faces and they said they're looking into releasing triad sets as well as singles which would be handy.
I've got a metric assload of Bardsung and Shadows of Brimstone models I just recently got that are eagerly waiting for the Fanatic line to be released - and probably some speed paints too if I ever want to get them all painted up. Really looking forward to checking them out when us plebs can get our hands on them!

I *think* these don’t need as much shaking. However, do you really know until the paints have sat on the shelf for a couple of months? :D but from the brand new box, I’ve only had to shake them a normal amount :-)
@WatchItPaintIt I'm always collecting paint of my favorite color (burgundy wine color) so I'll check those out eventually if my local gets them. Moving to the frozen north has taught me to not rely on product that will freeze in the mail 6 months out of the year.

I was constantly wondering if those examples of "bright colors covering pure black" AP kept showing off were maybe actually more layers than the video implied, some editing magic, maybe "let's stop filming before the paint actually dries and loses the saturation", so seeing you reconstruct those examples with all the bright, vibrant paints - especially yellow and pink - is honestly stunning. Not to suspect Army Painter of shady advertising, but when you see results this good, extreme scepticism is warranted regardless of your opinion of the company. Happily surprised that the results really are that good, although my inner sceptic still wonders if that will apply to *all* of the shades. Now my remaining question about Fanatics is, how do they work with an airbrush? And are they in line, color-wise, with the AP Warpaints Air? Those are really nice airbrush paints, so it would be just slightly disappointing if they weren't 1:1 with the new lineup.

I find the vallejo ever so slightly thick. I know you’re supposed to thin your paints but I ain’t got time for that :-D so I prefer the fanatics as I can use them out the bottle :O they weaker colours seemed so good in this range too. Hi Ben. The triad system is what sold these to me. Unfortunately the triad system only fully come in the big box at over £500. Don't think I can justify that in one go lol. I will however pick up a few to add to collection Commission painting eats your collection.

Loving this review 👏. Few questions for you chap. Do the lighter colours sit on top of the more pigmented darker colours ok? I.e. do the lighter layer colours stay the original colour or do they settle back/tint into the colour below? Do other brands of paint work with them ok? Do they glaze well? I have everything crossed these new paints are great and that AP sell the colour groups in sets. Keep up the good work chap 👍👏👌😊
Lighter colours go on top nicely. I thinned them and built up layers to get my highlights. But if I don’t thin them that can easily cover the under colour (obv some colours need mutli coats if the base is dark). Glazing works well! I use glaze medium, not tried it with just water but I spilt wayyyy too much in the video when I was showing they thin well, and while I didn’t try it that glaze looked really good. Haven’t tried with other brands yet, I don’t see any issue but I will definitely double check. Also has no issue with primed/not primed minis. The paint took well. Varnishing worked no issues too. I did *think* maybe the paint rubs off a little easy BUT I rarely paint with acrylics anymore, so it might just be normal? Something I definitely need to keep an eye on tho

@@keithburden7191I think the new washes might be the same as the old. I need to ask them but I’ve not noticed any difference! I like citadel shades and army painters washes, army painter just feels a bit simpler and easier to use for me. Like just slap on either black, dark brown or light brown and jobs done :D I actually own ALL of citadels and never really use them :/ even though I’d say I like them, I just never bother finding the one I want :D

Can someone in the know please advise - how do the fanatic range match up against the Vallejo Model/Game colour paints? Getting a starter paint set, and was all planned to get the Vallejo Model Color box. The good reviews on this Fanatic range now has me wondering if a change should be considered...
I have both. I actually rather like my Vallejo game colour range a lot. But I do prefer the new fanatic range. I’m lazy, I like how the fanatic range comes out ready to roll, I rarely thin my paints when I’m using Army Painter. It has good coverage without the thickness. One thin coat does the job for me
I don’t think I can give that test the experience it deserves. I’m only just learning airbrushing and am not very good yet! I would expect it needs thinning though, it’s a lot thicker than the air range
Hahaha. It’s a good point. Same as everything though isn’t it. I don’t buy new things for fun :D good news is tho it’s a decent number of years between their paint ranges :)
Rightly or wrongly Army Painter don't have the best reputation but what they do have, as someone from the UK, is the best availability compared to other brands. So I'm hoping they live up to the hype. Not sure I'll jump in with one of the big sets though (I've plenty of washes and metallics to keep me going) so instead I'll pick up a few of the 6 colour sets to try out.
@@WatchItPaintIt it's all good, was actually on my tv. Could be the balancing on my end I just tried listening to it on my phone and it sounds fine so it may not be on your end so I'm not sure. It's possible that at low listening volumes the music kind of takes over on just my TV
Seeing this set made me realize that I actually don't want it anymore. Either I have good enough versions of those colors and would just get duplicates or it comes with colors I don't really want or have any use for, it feel a bit too different from my pallet and how I paint. The new range still looks good though so I'll probably just pick up a few individual paints or triads instead :)
I agree. Someone should put them in jail for sc4mming their customers, buyin unknown influencers and coming with a mediocre new paintrange after EVERY other brand released better ones. In 2012 the fanatics would be good. Today.....lol. They will sell their usual boxes to beginners who dont listen to "dont buy complete sets" and thats it. But sure.....according to the not anymore ceo thats now the BEST PAINTRAGE EVER. *laughs in pro acryl*
Not sure about jail but they're certainly off my Christmas list - I stocked up on a number of their spray cans a few years ago and the majority of them leaked the propellant, making them useless. AP advised that the cans have a shelf live of 5 years although this is not stated on the cans I purchased. I've never had this problem with other manufacturers. Be warned.....
Oh damnn! That sucks! I have a shelf full of them too and had many for 5 years now - no issues of yet! I did pierce a brand new one once and paint sprayed EVERYWHERE!

I love the army painter rust. It’s the best orange I’ve ever used; it covers great, and if thinned a lot, it creates a great rust effect.

@@keithburden7191I think the new washes might be the same as the old. I need to ask them but I’ve not noticed any difference! I like citadel shades and army painters washes, army painter just feels a bit simpler and easier to use for me. Like just slap on either black, dark brown or light brown and jobs done :D I actually own ALL of citadels and never really use them :/ even though I’d say I like them, I just never bother finding the one I want :D

I have used it, I had no complaints but I need to use it more! I found it very bright, and had the same consistency of the other colours

Can someone in the know please advise - how do the fanatic range match up against the Vallejo Model/Game colour paints? Getting a starter paint set, and was all planned to get the Vallejo Model Color box. The good reviews on this Fanatic range now has me wondering if a change should be considered...
I have both. I actually rather like my Vallejo game colour range a lot. But I do prefer the new fanatic range. I’m lazy, I like how the fanatic range comes out ready to roll, I rarely thin my paints when I’m using Army Painter. It has good coverage without the thickness. One thin coat does the job for me

I don’t think I can give that test the experience it deserves. I’m only just learning airbrushing and am not very good yet! I would expect it needs thinning though, it’s a lot thicker than the air range

What are the dimensions of the paint stand?
Any idea how they airbrush? i mainly paint Gundam models, and i really dont dont wanna deal with more toxic paints with kids and pets in the house.

Rightly or wrongly Army Painter don't have the best reputation but what they do have, as someone from the UK, is the best availability compared to other brands. So I'm hoping they live up to the hype. Not sure I'll jump in with one of the big sets though (I've plenty of washes and metallics to keep me going) so instead I'll pick up a few of the 6 colour sets to try out.

@@WatchItPaintIt it's all good, was actually on my tv. Could be the balancing on my end I just tried listening to it on my phone and it sounds fine so it may not be on your end so I'm not sure. It's possible that at low listening volumes the music kind of takes over on just my TV

Seeing this set made me realize that I actually don't want it anymore. Either I have good enough versions of those colors and would just get duplicates or it comes with colors I don't really want or have any use for, it feel a bit too different from my pallet and how I paint. The new range still looks good though so I'll probably just pick up a few individual paints or triads instead :)

Not sure about jail but they're certainly off my Christmas list - I stocked up on a number of their spray cans a few years ago and the majority of them leaked the propellant, making them useless. AP advised that the cans have a shelf live of 5 years although this is not stated on the cans I purchased. I've never had this problem with other manufacturers. Be warned.....
Oh damnn! That sucks! I have a shelf full of them too and had many for 5 years now - no issues of yet! I did pierce a brand new one once and paint sprayed EVERYWHERE!
