Nobody could and local garages made quite a bit of money going around the track and towing various unfortunates out of the bushes!

Clark retires again ,,, Most sites just quote F1 championship drives which is misleading since all the top teams and drivers competed in all F1 races,,, Jim Clarks F1 drives over the 7 seasons was 140 races 63 poles 103 finishes (37dnf). 62 wins ,,, basically for every 15 races he would win 9
Drivers were fat? Who was fat my memory they were all pretty fit. At the Tasman series lots of drivers were shirtless and always looked pretty fit to me, I don't remember any fat guys amongst the F1 drivers. They might not spend all of their time at the gym but on a hot day even the 100 mile Tasman races where hard on drivers their driving suits looking like they had been for a swim!

The incredible skill with which they drive almost makes you forget they were absolutely mad risking their lives in these high speed tubs.

Yes, Clark had one of the highest win-ratios of great drivers. And that in the notoriously fragile Lotuses!
