I’ve always felt this song was the theme of the Marineford saga. I know the other arcs in the saga (Sabaody, Amazon Lily, have their own OPs) and it doesn’t match the arc proper (Marineford itself) but I feel it works well as the saga’s goal is to save ace so it the song’s upbeat and happy sounding melody and tempo juxtapose the depressing ending in an oddly foreboding and well put together contrast. Also the arc this IS the opening to is arguably darker as Impel Down is a reference to Dante’s Inferno. So the prison is a stand in for literal hell
