  • It's the Bank Capacity Upgrade Works - which brings a new Northern Line platform, new entrance, new lifts, new escalators and even a travelator to Bank Station!
    Thanks to TfL for kindly let me inside to go and take a look around, and to do so you have to go in via the disused tube station King William Street ...

    They demolished a building I worked in - 10 King William St, to create access for this, so I knew about it back in 2014. Thanks for finally making a video about it Geoff!

      Got rid of the entire block! Fascinating to use Google Street View history slider to watch it all disappear. I'm sure they'll put another high rise building on top but it looks nicer as an open space at the moment.

    I was there in the 90’s when they redid Angel Station and opened up Bank Station to the DLR. Not much fun during construction work but much better when it was done. Bank Station was always filthy and full of soot. This looks another good improvement. Saying that I haven’t lived in London in nearly 20 years and have no real desire to go back.

    It seems a failed opportunity not to use the old C&SLR tunnels for a travellator to connect Bank to London Bridge. At rush hour lots of people seem to take the Northern Line just for this one stop to connect between Central/District/Circle Lines and Jubilee Line/Trains at London Bridge. A travellator could take a significant chunk of those people off the trains.

    • @norbitonflyer5625
      @norbitonflyer5625 6 лет назад

      Connecting the two would be difficult because of everything else in the way - starting with the Central Line at Bank. And the platform lengths and tunnel sizes of the W&C (which can only take 4-car Tube size stock) would limit the capacity of such a combined line to much less than that of the existing Northern City (which currently uses six car trains of full main line size). Rebuilding the W&C to main line size would cost more than building a new line (and cause huge disruption whilst it was being done). So if you want a line to connect the GN and SW main lines, better to start from scratch - which is what Crossrail 2 will be.
