This is super clever and well produced Sean. Well done!
Thanks man!
Hello Marc with a K
I absolutely love the change in direction you have taken with the tone, visual language, mood. Your projects were always good, but you have taken it to a new level in the last few videos!
Thank you!!!
@@SeanHodgins Thank you!!
@@SeanHodgins I gotta say I've seen your channel before, but damn. I'm hooked now. It's the modern day equivalent to 90's hacker movies.
I'm not done with this project yet... This is just the beginning.
Okay, Mr. Robot.
Bring it on!!!
Any updates on this? Looking forward
Great work, lovin' the nuclear apocalypse, stuck-in-the-matrix synthwave vibe! The internet needs more maker projects with good cinemtography. Oh, and awesome projects as always! 🙂 Looking forward to part 2
Sometimes the matrix isn't all bad. 😁
I love the synthwave vibe.
looking forward to seeing the cloud chamber in action.
Me too!
Love it! Looking forward to the next part :D H.
😁 Thank you! I hope you two enjoy the holidays!
@@SeanHodginswheres part2 😢
That's SO RAD. Never would have thought of a vapor chamber being a thing to make a fun novel version of. I love when mad science meets childlike wonder. Keep it up.
Now lets see if the vapor chamber actually works!
It's absolutely stunning when the snow appeared. Really love the story that you keep us totally immersed in it. Just can't wait to see more ! ❤
I’ll definitely be adding some custom PCBs to it soon!
Alcohol vapor chamber for detecting radiation, in disguise. Edit: Oh wait, I must have been too into my cheese sandwich, I heard you hint at it, but somehow didn't actually see the end where you said it was exactly that. Neat!
Can't wait for that vapor chamber. What a brilliant idea.
Haha you figured it out early! This project will have multiple uses, and some upgrades.
you should invent an electric snow globe that snow all the time by using 2 magnets and a little fan just like an aquarium filter. you can make a lot of money.
You're a genius dude seriously. You inspired me a few months ago and since then I've been trying various electronics projects. The world is your oyster.
Just discovered this channel and watched two videos. In both of them you promised a part two and in both cases you did not deliver...
At least it shows how much you value viewers and that I won't waist my time here.
I know I'm bad at Part 2's - I just get excited for new projects/ideas and have so little time for my own stuff that they usually take precedent. Which one would you want to see a part 2 of more? This one?
@@SeanHodgins I'm interested in the led version of the infinity hypercube. That's also how I found this channel.
I spent hours looking on instructables, hackster and similar sites for a infinity hypercube guide to see how much harder than a regular cube it is, but nothing.
You can buy them for $4500-$10500 on etsy and that's about all that exists when talking about a led version.
Leading me to the conclusion that either everyone who tried failed or nobody realised how incredible it looks.
@@SeanHodgins man, i think is a little too tough on what he said, it s a bit furstrating that there is no part 2 of this but i trust you that you are going to make it. Good luck and i hope that i will have that in my room as soon as you post the solution :D!
Awesome project.
Thanks!
I would actually buy something like this to use as a small desktop heater in the winter time :D
Wow man the amount of work you put into both the projects and the video production definitely does not go unnoticed! But damn what the hell is wrong is us Canadians that we feel the need to engineer even more ways to stay cold in the middle of winter?
There is something wrong with us
Dope concept and execution. Now this has me thinking about a painfully slow clock that uses peltier cooled metal seven segment "displays"
That would be cool! 🧊
Part 2 ?!?
I want to see this little cloud chamber go!
These videos are so enjoyable
Hoping you post your next project soon! I'm trying to learn how to build electronics projects now and could definitely use some cool education videos to follow along to
I will do something soon! I will be posting some smaller, less complicated projects on my second channel occasionally as well: ruclips.net/channel/UCWtaPKeqYjpqG4whkMUfc7w
Like the aesthetic and atmosphere
Thanks!
Hi Sean, thanks for another great video and all your great content. I hope your cloud chamber will work. I have built a few cloud chambers myself, and I wanted to share a few tips based on my experience:
1) 2 TEC1-12706 stacked on top each other, top one running at 5V and the bottom one running at 12V works well. No need for 3 stages. Your cold side temperature should be less than about -26C, and you get the best visibility around -35C or lower.
2) If you want your device to run longer than a few mins, you need water cooling on the hot side of the bottom peltier. Air cooling doesn't extract enough heat. It might work initially but will stop working after a while once the bottom peltier gets gradually warmer with the heat sink not being able to keep up with the heat. Also most heat sinks use heat pipes to carry the heat. The liquid in them vaporises close to heat source and condenses back on the far side and gets drawn back to the hot side by a combined effect of capilariy action and gravity. Because of this, heat sinks work best in the opposite orientation, or heat source below the heat sink.
3) In a diffusion cloud chamber, alcohol vapor diffuses from a hot surface to a cold surface, eventually becoming supersaturated before condensing on the cold surface. Charged particles passing through this supersaturated region act like condensation nuclei and form little clouds. It is this diffusion process that makes the vapor supersaturated as it travels from one side of the chamber to the other side. It might work upside down and on a complicated geometry like the snowman you have, but it most probably won't work. The more traditional approach is to warm up the alcohol on the top of the chamber and have a cold plate on the bottom of the chamber. And as the vapor diffuses down, it becomes supersaturated right above the cold plate. For a chamber of the size you had in the video, that would be probably within 1 mm of the cold plate, but would still be enough to see tracks. The amount of alcohol you need to vaporize needs some fine tuning. Usually it should work without a heating element. Too much or too less alcohol would destroy the the conditions required for supersaturation.
4) A high voltage electric field would immensely increase the visibility of the tracks. For a square shaped chamber, you usually do this by adding a mesh on the top and using your cold plate as the second electrode. The mesh could be outside of the glass chamber as an electric field would still form inside.
5) You definitely need a directional light source, i.e. a flashlight, to see the tracks. You want to have the light source parallel to the cold plate and look at the chamber at a shallow angle facing the light source.
6) It might take some time for the chamber to reach the conditions required for supersaturation. Don't turn off the device if you don't see tracks within the first few mins. Let it run for 5-10 mins and make improvements after that if nothing happens. The bigger the chamber the longer it might take for the chamber to reach the ideal conditions.
I hope this helps. Here is my latest cloud chamber as an example:

I'm looking forward to your second video. Good luck!
This needs more attention
This is great advice for anyone looking to build a solid cloud chamber. Thanks for taking the time to write that out!

Now I know what the little spheres on your lathe were for! 😁
They were fun to make!

😁 Glad to see you too!
Woah just realised you have a Libre, I just want to say that as someone with t1, this makes me happy to see others doing such cool projects not limited by things like that ^-^
We’re of the few truly 100% dependent on modern tech, remember that. Haha
Dystopian intro but I bet you could sell this
I'm thinking about making it easier to build for V2.
@@SeanHodgins sell it as a kit, do a igg or kickstarter
Our thought processing is so similar it's almost scarey.

Did I see you in the a Mark Rober video? Very cool video keep up the good work;
Yeah I help in the dev. of the Glitterbomb project! Thank you!
@@SeanHodgins knew it :). Nice! Shame he didn't link to your channel though.... Maybe next time 😉

I was so into it I had to check to see if dosimeters were actually outlawed. Give your editor a pat on the back.
Awesome! Thanks * pats self on back *

Part 2?
Love your projects and phenomenal editing, Keep it up!!!!
Thank you! Will do!
I actually do have a drawer full of old fans and heatsinks...
Its not like you can throw them out!
Peter Fischli did a similar project as a full size snowman in 1987 and 2016. But still a tiny version is super cool.
What! No one’s ever first… hahah Just looked it up, so cool!
How'd you make the gameboy?
Want me to make a video?
@@SeanHodgins Oh hell yes! *Cough* I mean, yes please.
Did you really make a way to play video through a gameboy advance?? I would be very interested to see that!
I might make a video on it, but its some open source software I found!
Honestly glad someone else has a drawer like mine. Random fans and heat sinks. I have to show my gf I'm not the only one.
What did she say?
@SeanHodgins she rolled her eyes and showed absolutely no interest. She thinks the finished projects I do are pretty cool. But as soon as I mention anything about how something i made works, I've already lost her attention. Haha.
You combine some of my favorite style elements with cool and creative projects. Thanks for taking the time to make this stuff, as a fellow maker it's really inspiring
I appreciate that!
This was "definitely interesting" until the end, when the alcohol pad arrived.. Now it's firmly at "must watch part 2!"
Is it time to start singing Frosty the Radioactive Snowman yet??
I might need to modify the snow man slightly, but yeah!
Planet is cooling down, I'm scared of more snow and colder temperatures ahead.
😅 me too.
what a quality video
I also have a drawer full of old fans and heatsinks! 😂
Excited for part 2!!!!
I just seen a couple of videos on your channel, but I'm amazed. It seems I'm watching the new season of Mr Robot.
