I'm Italian and Ballack is one of the first footballers I kinda fell in love with. He got all my sympathy because he has been really unlucky with his clubs and national team; apart from that, he was a complete midfielder, a joy to watch. I really miss him.
He was hated amongst his teammates because he was unable to integrate himself into any team. You can see in the video that most of his goals were penalties, which is rather unimpressive and there was not a single goal against a big team. To sum it up: An average player with average skill and a horrendous personality. Good riddance.
@@dissect123 This is just a compilation of goals with his national team. Check recaps of his club goals, you'll notice a wider range of skills. I'm not stating Ballack was the best, he just impressed me a lot. About his temper I can clearly recall his argument with Podolski against Wales, when Lukas slapped him after being scolded for poor running. You're right, I can easily figure Ballack being difficult to train for his coach and difficult to bear for his teammates.
@@dissect123 This is actually so far beyond any reality that I don't even know how and if I should answer it. From 2002, when Oliver Kahn described the team as harmonious as he had never experienced it, until 2008, Ballack was by far the strongest field player and the one the others cheered on when they lost heart. Two little men with too big fragile egos. When it comes to football, things are even clearer. Ballack was the strongest German player of the last 30 years. He scored fewer goals for the national team because he had to play a lot more defensively there than at club level, putting himself behind the team's success. The tragedy is that he played in an era when there was not enough help. Then again, that's exactly why he shaped the team back then like few before and no one after him.
