...you hear music breathing, every single bar, joyful and as close to the mystery of Mozart you can get. Clara Haskil still leaves us in awe. She always will. The tempi differ a lot from current interpretations. Sit back relax and enjoy..... Mi piace moltissimo
all my childhood, I remember weekends when my mother listened Clara Askil in this beautiful concerto and I played with my sister with our dolls, they where princesses and we created stories on this music
Am looking that up sir, am sure this composer is a fine man but some idiot keeps putting that cadenzas and such are done on music that is certainly only the original composers
Origins are always the most important... We must never forget them... I like Nikita Magaloff's cadenza, but I prefer Mozart's original one (not to mention that we fortunately have it and it was not lost)...
I have listened to her 1954 rec of PC20, then 1957 of PC19, and now this 1961 going chronologically... so far all interpretations are striking and prodigious. Murray Perahia and Mitsuko Uchida are others I listen to ... any recommendations ? :)
There used to be an old live recording of this with Malcolm Frager when he was young. The conductor's name was Josef Krips. Anyways, its not on youtube anymore, but honestly, I gotta say it was the one of finest recordings I've ever witnessed. It was on camera and the sound was crisp and clear. I think it was recorded in the 60s or so. Not to mention Mr. Frager (R.I.P.) played it so flawlessly and with such grace.. I hope you come across it though. Good luck!!✌
I did a little research and found the dvd of the performance. It was "Radio Canada" but you may be able to view it online. Otherwise, here is the dvd for purchase. I'm sure you won't regret it!
What would have happened HAD Clara picked up playing virtuoso pop piano & ad-lib jazz à la Beegie Adair. An enigma to me how someone like her could have spent her entire life playing the same sheep music up and down 1001 x over.
This andante evokes the most "romantic" sensations and transplants me into a night, illuminated by a bright moon, in midst of a splendit Italian garden of which a rich odour of blossoming roses is allowed to enter my nose. The very beginning is as sensual and dramatic as the beginning of the 4th act of Nozze di Figaro, - certainly a merit of the entire interpretation of both angelic Clara Haskil and the conducter. A wonderful example of how music transcends and activates all our senses. I am afraid you missed the point that Mozart's music was born on the stage. Every note, every bar, is drama, une condition humaine, if you will.
I have come to love the Mozart piano concertos, but especially the earlier ones--where simplicity and directness are virtues.

The way she played the first movement was of Divine Perfection❤️
She is the grand teacher of my piano teacher !

The "RESONANCE" recordings of Deutsche Grammophon have a historical value.
Only Haskil has this special sensitivity for Mozart thanks for posting it
Sorry, but you're overlooking Geza Anda and his "special sensitivity", aren't you?
You forget about Robert Casadesus and Maurizio Pollini
Hans is right. Only she had THIS special sensitivity. Each their own unique special sensitivity.
Thank you.

The vinyl LP shown is a late 1970s reissue of this 1960 recording.
Eterna música, de Mozart 💌
Why don't they make such beautiful covers any more.
A great recording! Clara Haskil was a unique Mozartian. The cadenza in the first part was composed by Nikita Magaloff.
Am looking that up sir, am sure this composer is a fine man but some idiot keeps putting that cadenzas and such are done on music that is certainly only the original composers
Clara Haskil asked her friend, Magaloff to compose this cadenza, and he presented it to her at Christmas of 1956.
First of all, there is Mozart's own cadenza.

13th had the most dull andante of ALL the piano concertos. Why didn't she recorded the 14th which is a masterpiece...
