Love the way you show we don't need big expensive cameras or lenses to tell a story or capture an award winning image. The best camera is always the one you have with you! I've taken some of my best images on a smartphone because I had it with me. Look forward to what's next! Thx for all you do 👍
I LOVE the way you leave things on the screen actually long enough for me to see/compare things. Other 'content provider's often leave me cursing while I have to hit the 'back' button all too often. Thank you.
Hard to beat m4/3 in terms of size, and quality. Part of my switch to m4/3 was inspired by your videos talking about size and weight savings. Now the rebuilding continues! Thanks again for taking the time to prove that size doesn't/does matter!
yeap, it's a great lens. There is trio of 15mm, 25mm and 42,5mm Leicas sharing very similar signature. BTW I own DJI Lens, which is a rebrended 15mm 1,7.
You are a awesome person. Loved the moment you've decided to give away the 42.5mm. It showed the real good person you are. At the same time your videos are giving me a lot of informations without the need to go elsewhere to learn much more informations about it. Thank you so much. Ah I am a new subscriber 🙏🙏🙏
I love how you push thrift and practicality. Its a relief as the litany of choice is overwhelming. I get anxious trying to put together my kit. Every part is so expensive and I don't want to make a mistake. Videos like yours help a lot.
Thanks Markus! This helps me to no end. I have been researching for weeks to figure out a small good quality M4/3 camera that I can pack in my moto touring gear. You are obviously a great hearted guy and your knowledge is very helpful.
Loved your positive attitude and presentation! My favorite travel combo is the Oly 9-18mm, Pana 12-32mm and the nimble 17/1.8 for low light. With an Olympus camera and their FL-LM3 flash, there's little one will miss for casual photography. There still remains the perfect light for video, which remains to be invented.
Most camera/tech RUclipsrs repeat the same new product marketing guff because their depth of practical knowledge is lacking and they don't want to stray from the consensus. As a fellow RUclipsr who works on a tight equipment budget, I'm really glad I've come across your channel and keep up the great work. 👍🏾
Once I started comparing the weight and size of my M50 and adapted lenses to m4/3, I stopped looking into new lenses for the M50. After a year, I just started making the switch and love it.
I bought the Olympus M. Zuiko 45mm 1.8 and it quickly became my go-to lens. Light and small... yes. However, mine is pleasantly sharp and the bokeh is strong enough to create a nice separation. Great video, by the way. I love the A-B comparison of moderately priced lens versus kinda-pricey lens. When you see them back to back - it makes sense. Thanks for the work you put into the video.
I hope the 42.5 you gave away is giving someone a lot of joy. It is one of those I wish I had it type lenses and had I seen this video back in May I would have applied for it. Sometimes small is best, but when a lens has special character I don’t mind extra weight at all. This has to be the best overview of small MFT lens options on the internet. I always appreciate your focus on practicality Markus. Not enough reviewers spend enough time in the real world as you do.
As someone who's learning as I go this is soooooo helpful, thank you for sharing this. I'm now going to binge watch you and hopefully learn most of what I need to know.
WoW! I was one step from sell my whole Panasonic M43 system and switch to Sony. Right now I`m thinking about buy gx850 and a few lenses to create my pocket backup setup :) Thank You Marcus and greetings form Poland.
So great to come across someone who also enjoys and appreciates the compactness of MFT. I'm 40 years a pro' photographer, naturally working with superb but big Nikon or Canon DSLRS, and got into Lumix kit 10 years ago because it's size and weight(lessness) made me smile and gave me freedom, freedom!! Less is more!
Great comparison of the M43 lenses very useful thanks. Those f1.8 Olympus lenses are excellent value. I hope Panasonic comes out with another rangefinder style camera similar to the GX8 just a bit smaller. The GX9 didn't cut the mustard they cut too many corners.
I really like your video, excellent intro to micro 4/3, totally agree. Everything micro should by definition be small, hopefully also lightweight. Only critissism , you did not mention bloggers and tourists use the extendable selfie stick, usually with a cellphone or an action camera because being handheld it is longer away than the one you used in your video and you don't need to carry around a tripod which is heavier and cumbersome. You did not mention that lenses with large apertures are more expensive and heavy because they need more glass and are more difficult to make, the advantage of these lenses is that each stop more open means you need half the light, which when working with only daylight is a great advantage.
Thank you for teaching me! I am a beginner at photography and even though I've researched and read a lot the last few years, you're the absolute best of showing what's actually important. I've been binging your videos for 2 days, thank you so much, you're a wealth of knowledge! Thank you for sharing it! :)
You're awesome! Thanks for doing these types of videos. Sometimes it's easy to get caught up in having the "best equipment" when the waaaaay cheaper lenses do almost the exact same job. Thanks Markus! Keep up the good work!
I have a Lumix GM5. I prefer the size of the GM5 over my Olympus EM1 Mark II, but I love the controls and 5 axis image stabilization of the Olympus. I can take night shots hand-held at ISO 200. I bought it used for $650 and couldn't be happier. I showed a friend with a newer full-frame Nikon DSLR some of the night shots zoomed-in and he couldn't get over the images and size and weight of the Olympus.
Agree it is an excellent “fast” lens. However for street photography, you just cannot beat the tiny Lumix 12-32mm lens because of the built in lens stabilization coupled with the excellent IBIS on the GX85 make this combo a winner for walk around photography.
Great vid! I'd throw my name in for the Nocticron but I sold mine for the same reason you're giving yours away. The 14mm is another good lens and next to the body caps, the smallest in the system. I really wish Panasonic would bring back the GM5, mine is showing it's age... and I agree the GX85 is too big to replace it.
Thanks for this video, you are so on point with all your comments. I get so tired of thinking we have to go more expensive, or bigger to be a good photographer.
I completely agree about the size! I wish I had made this video. Great job at showing people all those lenses, one after the other. I have a Olympus PL-9 and would love a chance to win the 42.5. Again, you're so generous!
I'm not a professional, I'd like to go pro, but I lack too much experience for that. But, I chose M43 because they are small and compact and still take great pictures. Thanks for your videos, you always learn.
Word. Of course, the resolution and bokeh-chasing crowd may utter mumbles of disagreement, but I think you're spot on. Photography isn't about specifications, it's about making photographs and story telling. A lot of remarkable photographs have been taken with some pretty naff kit. I chose the M43 system because it's small, light, easy to carry, and produces great images. Leaving my big, bulky Nikons behind and switching to a PenF brought the joy back to shooting for me. I can carry a body and three or four lenses in a small bag, the whole kit feeling less burdensome than my bulky DSLR with one lens. The 12mm/2, 17mm/1.8, 25mm/1.8 and 45mm/1.8 are staples, along with a few vintage MF lenses when I want their look. The 75mm/1.8 has its place. Optically, it's one of the most stunning lenses I've ever shot with, but I often feel it's sort of voyeuristic, and generally prefer to be closer to what I'm shooting.
Love your videos man! #Subscribed. Love your comparisons of all the different gear. That is so helpful to me to help decide what to get for different purposes. Like some things for live streaming, versus all the different types of photography. Even camcorders can work great for streaming because most sports are streamed 1080p or 1080i
My go to lens is the 45mm too, just a fantastic little lens. Started using thr 25mm lumix of late but it doesn't make me go wow like thr Olympus 45mm does. Great video 👍
❤i love your very educational videos Marcus and I really enjoy my micro4/3 Olympus OM-D E-M5 camera, I learned a lot from you specially about the lighting and audio processing and I'll continue following you Marcus and thank you so much for your work!❤❤❤
Awesome video, Marcus! Thank you for sharing your insights. You've helped me better capture family moments we can never get back. Based on this video and a couple of your others, I picked up a GM1 and three of the lenses you recommended here to better pursue my photography hobby. I'm a novice and originally bought a Nikon D5600, but frankly found myself leaving it home for special events and vacation trips because of the systems' size. Also, I picked up a Canon Vixia camcorder (based on your camcorder video) in time to catch my three girls open their Christmas presents. Right tool for the job! Thanks again for all you do for the photography community!
That 75 is so gorgeous. All that glass!! I have the 45. It's miniscule. If I want a lens that length (75mm+) I get an adapter and put on my old OM system 85mm f/2 which is only about the same size as an old SLR standard lens!
you are absolutely correct ... panasonic is making too big camera bodies nowadays ... we need small pro body, small lens and small battery grip for the 4/3 system .... btw love your channels
I already have the Nocticron, love it. But, you're not wrong about your choices. The Leica 15mm is also amazing. Small is beautiful. Thank you for another informative video.
not mentioned Lumix 25mm f1.7 often on sale for @150.00 and the Lumix 42.5mm f1.7 another very small compact lens. I use these two lenses for low available light instead of my excellent but much heavier Leica12mm-60mm f2.8-f4.0.
As a relatively-new Panasonic shooter, this is really cool. So far, I've gotten lots of use from the surpisingly weather resistant 12-60 Panasonic kit lens.
I'm a longtime m43 shooter with a full set of lenses, including the 2.8 zooms. I'll tell you that the 12-60 kit lens is a tremendous value and very, very useful.
A refreshing, non-pixel peeping, camera snob like review of some very acceptable glass. I own several of the Olympus non-Pro lens and they are excellent.
I like 4/3 lens as I find great deals without too much effort. My Zuiko 45mm cost me $207. My 17mm f2.8 pancake was $123. Simply better bang for the buck than APS-C and full frame glass. Thanks for another great review. May look for a Lumix 14-42mm next.
I loved this. Like you, I'm not afraid of vlogging with a tripod. I'm using my G9, and it's just too damn big for an old guy like me to hold out in front of me. I use my Oben mini-tripod on my desk if I'm vlogging from my office, or I have a nice full-size monopod that I can carry around instead of a tripod. I mostly use a 25mm Pana 1.7 or my 42.5mm 1.7. I'm getting ready to pull the trigger on that Oly 17mm, though. I think it's a perfect lens for vlogging, Thanks for the great content.
Yes I use the 17mm for vlogging. Really great. You should difinetly buy. Actually, watch an example of it on of my videos. I show some unedited footage using it.
Markus is spot on with his size comparison. If you have a m4/3 system the huge f1.2 Pro lenses are great for low light photography or for when weather sealing is essential, but I would not get it as a main lens even for G9 or EM1. Sony a7 with one of those f1.8 prime is imo the best compromise of size, image quality, background blur and low light performance.
@@MarkusPix Does the Panasonic 15mm aperture ring work on the GX1? I saw you had it mounted to it in another video. I've watched your health and wellness videos for years and have greatly enjoyed them. I was pleasantly surprised to see you doing camera reviews. I don't know why I didn't see your channel sooner. 😊
I use Olympus camera to because of the smaller size. and use a 50 mm manual lens and love the small size. I also love your reviews, you are so down to earth guy.
My first 4/3 was a GX85 two lens kit. Then I added an Olympus EPL-7 which is my grab and go camera. I like my Sony A6000 for APS-C. Seldom use my older DSLR's anymore. I prefer the smaller stuff like you. Another great video. Thanks.
Certainly got a lot of people attention.Markus.....your video is fascinating...People just starting out with cameras will fell in love..... Hail Ceasar.
I subscribed to your channel watch all the way from Trinidad and Tobago. I must say in under a week you have thought me so much. I appreciate your knowledge. Thank you 🇹🇹
I have the Canon 70D with secondhand lenses. My favorite lens is my nifty 50 pancake lens. The weight drops to the point I enjoy shooting with the camera. Is the 70D the best of the best? No, but it is a fine camera to use and I have fun with it. Just because something is older doesn’t mean it’s obsolete.
Just recently updated my OM-D E-M5 ii by getting the E-M10 IV with 14-150 and 25 1.8. I think I will consider the 45 1.8, and I am tempted on the 14 2.5 by lumix.
Just got the 45mm f1.8 Olympus M Zuiko to go with my GH5 off eBay for $137.00 perfect condition because you have 4 Markus LOL... been a couple days but I love using it... just a noob so i am a work in progress... thanks for doing what you do with your knowledge and experience.
I like the small lenses just for walking around photography. The lumix 20mm is nice and give bright colors. I just picked up the 15mm Leica branded lens and need to test it out this weekend.
As always great video. I own a gh4 with 2 lens one is a wide lens 14 mm and a portrait nocticron 42.5mm. Yes the the 42.5 is big but I don't mind lugging it around
Awesome video Markus. I was just looking for prime lenses to improve my videos, and photos, so it was cool to see you review my kit lens, and the 42.5mm Panasonic lens. Thanks.
Damn I love the presentation in this video! Love the energy, I’m reminded of why I love M43 now. Also I appreciate the amount of editing that went into this.
Low light is where M4/3 can struggle, and that is when a speedbooster is useful. I use some old Nikon glass with a speedbooster, great low light results.
I've been looking for something similar to my Canon G12 point-and-shoot camera, which has taken tens of thousands of pictures but is showing its age. However, most point-and-shoots don't have a screen that swivels or tilts, which is a must for me. After seeing this video, I will be taking a hard look at the GX850.
Here's the winner of the Lumix 42.5mm f1.2 lens ruclips.net/video/APYfgYuBpTc/видео.html

Ciao Markus, I completely agree with you. I love the m 4/3 system for its lightness and portability and especially the Zuiko 45mm f1.8!
Hard to beat that Leica 15mm f1.7 :)
Smallie but goodie 😊
It's the perfect lens for street photography on a smaller M43 camera. You can shoot unobtrusively and get great results.

May look for a Lumix 14-42mm next.
lol it always makes me laugh how easily you give free stuff.great channel!
Thanks for share your expertise mate.
One of the best, practical, photography gear reviews I've seen in a very long time. Nice job!
Glad you liked it!
This is excellent. Markus - you constantly make me rethink everything!!
Yay! My evil plan is working! 😄
Terrific comparison. Thank you!
I am happy that you give the prices. I am a Newbe .I have Learned so much from your Channel. Keep up the good work.
Prices change all the time though
Great video Marcus, your completely on point regarding size and weight.
I subscribed to your channel watch all the way from Trinidad and Tobago.
I must say in under a week you have thought me so much. I appreciate your knowledge. Thank you 🇹🇹
Totally agree, I hate huge cameras and lenses
3 years later still a great video.
This was FUN to watch!
Thank you for your video. Down to earth with helpful comparisons.
My pleasure!
Just recently updated my OM-D E-M5 ii by getting the E-M10 IV with 14-150 and 25 1.8.
I think I will consider the 45 1.8, and I am tempted on the 14 2.5 by lumix.
Very good, excellent video
Thank you very much!
14mm f2.5 pancake lens is awesome.
Great video. I have a Panasonic G85. Good information here along with accompanying examples. Stay safe!
Great review of all those lenses.
I like the small lenses just for walking around photography. The lumix 20mm is nice and give bright colors. I just picked up the 15mm Leica branded lens and need to test it out this weekend.
Very educational, makes one think . Thanks . You did a great job . I have the 45mm Olympus lens and its sharp as hell .
I love these little guys!
Thanks.
Great video
Damn I love the presentation in this video! Love the energy, I’m reminded of why I love M43 now. Also I appreciate the amount of editing that went into this.
gx850/880 ist eine absolut geile Kamera. Komplett unterschätzt, das Teil.
Mega gemacht, mit den unterschiedlichen Linsen, geiler Vergleich. danke dir
Well done and very informative.
Excellent tutorial!
Thank you! Cheers!
Valuable information , thank you.
thanks
