if u go deep into Arabian history these dances usually where before battles so motivate the tribesmen and put fear in other enemy tribe,, each tribe and nation in gulf countries have their own dances and drumming, according to their historic battle dances, and different weapons, nowadays they just perform these dances in celebrations, but still have their weapons of war with them, especially in Saudi Arabia
we still perform those dances nowadays, they’re so fun and very tempting once the dance start it never ends until midnight lol, as for the weapons it’s not common to use them, and it was banned by the law long time ago, which is for the best honestly

Saudis love their brothers from Iraq and a lot of Iraqi families are the same in Saudi Arabia. May Allah be with you to defeat the terrorists and bring back the glory and peace to your amazing country. Peace be with you, brother.
What rythm, beautiful drumming, wonderful dancing. And i thought only Africans can dance, the Saudis are something else, totally unexpected. Respect from India
Thanks for all the folkloric information! I noticed that many folk dances of Yemen, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia and other Gulf countries have an African influence. I also noticed the distinct polyrhythms in the clapping patterns of the men seated in the rows....sounds EXACTLY like the worship rhythms of my church. Once again, SHUKRAN for all the beautiful cultural information! :-)
AFWAN! You mentioned that this dance was originally brought to Arabia from African pilgrims to Makkah. Do you know which region (East, South, Southeast, North, Northwest, etc.) or country of Africa that these dance patterns originated? As I mentioned before, I have seen similar dance steps and heard similar clapping patterns among the worshipers of my African-American church. When I watch these RUclips videos of Yemenite, Kuwaiti, Bahraini, Omani and Arabian folk dances, I see similar choreography and polyrhythmic clapping.....especially the body waves, the dipping in the knees, the cross-steps, etc. Again, SHUKRAN for any information you can provide. These folkloric and tribal dances are simple and beautiful in their ow way, and are probably hundreds or thousands of years old.
When one looks to the Arabic traditional wedding dance, the youth bearing the twin falchion swords showed remarkable balance while doing spins that would floor most others. As you see the crossed then swung swords, your mind takes you to a time in not too distant centuries past when, performed outdoors, the sun caught steel and the eyes would be dazzled. It is a cultural aspect to admire & cherish within each successive generation, an identifying trait of ONE people worthy of praise rather than scorn.
we are Saudis proud of our religion, culture and language . we love it and we will always teach our new generations about it. a nation with no culture is not a real nation

This dance is for ALL Saudis, but it is only one dance for a specific group or tribe. Saudi Arabia is a big country with many different cultures and traditional dances. Every tribe is proud of their heritage and traditional dance and culture. Just come in the Summer and you will know more. Weddings usually take place during the Summer holiday.

Borat Sagdiyev I’m happy to say that ottomans couldn’t that control of Morocco thanks to the Saadian Arab dynasty, Ottomans did care only about making a bigger empire and not about the most important thing: Islam
For your information, this dance is called “el fun el haraby” which literally means “the wrestling art” (during war). Saudi Arabia-geographically- huge and therefore there are several types of dancing art, this specific type belongs to the Hijaz Region (western part of the Saudi Kingdom). The most common Saudi dance is called “Arda” which arguably means “display” - people from Najd and Eastern Province usually perform it during weddings and national events. At the end, Arab men -in general -do not encourage dancing as they somehow think dancing devalues their manhoods. However, this belief/view does not apply to the traditional dancing because all of the traditional dancing types came originally from victories in wars. Saudi Arabia has a wonderful history but unfortunately the Saudi government and people do not promote it properly, Saudis deserve better.
