KNA UK-1 - $69: imp.i114863.ne...
LR Baggs Classical Element - $139: www.lrbaggs.co...
UPDATE: The instrument input impedance on my Clarett 4Pre interface is 2M ohms, which should be similar to what a preamp would provide. As such, the sound you're hearing is probably pretty true to what you can expect when running through a high-impedance amp or preamp as KNA recommends.

That's so true what you are saying about mic and the Uke! Damn all the unnecessary holes and lose cable connection and hail the mic !
Thank you for a very thorough and balanced review. Looking forward to checking out more of your videos.
Thanks for this, Brad!
Thanks for this review Brad. This is a very unique and interesting style of pickup.
I decided to buy this pickup for my baritone ukulele after watching a number of positive reviews and it did not work out well for me. Plugging into a Fender Acoustic Junior, this pickup not only sounds dull, but is incredibly imbalanced tonally. Needed a lot of EQ fussing and a compression pedal to get it sounding midway decent. If you have any sort of string buzz that gets amplified fairly heavily as well. The cable is really easy to pull out and any minor brush against it during playing inputs noise into the signal. Not worth the money.
Once you insert the device, why would you ever remove it? You would clip it to yourself so stepping on the cable shouldn’t be an issue. It seems to me throughout the video that you didn’t really think it was going to be good. Sorry, just my opinion. Through RUclips I couldn’t hear a difference between your pickup and the KNA.
Don't be sorry. We all have different needs and approaches. You can disagree with mine.
Re: your points - I would be afraid of breaking it off if I left it in my uke all the time - just a matter of time really. As for clipping it on, sure, but with a normal pickup I don't have to do any special rigging - just plug it in. To be fair, you're right, I DIDN'T think it would be good compared to what I use. Otherwise I would have tried it a long time ago. But I think I made it pretty obvious that I'm not the ideal customer and how it could be useful to the right person. Did you use good speakers or headphones to listen to the comparisons? I thought the difference was pretty huge, personally.
I don't record myself much, but I think it would be fun to play my uke with an amplified sound.
This is an easy way to get your foot in the door!
It’s possible to use it with metallic strings or only nylon? I have a tenor guitar with 4 strings… Thanks
Just happened upon your video, like you said, the KNA would work in a crunch. I just got a
K & K installed in my classical guitar, recommended by luthier. I like it, would be curious to know what one would sound like in my uke...
I have one but it makes noise in the bass frecuency for now I am solving it with equalization but u want to know if yours also does the same.
I gave these away a long time ago. I don't remember excessive bass. Any transducer tends to pick up arm and body movements
Hi Brad. Are you running these through any kind of digital interface? I have a UK-1 and without a DI the sound mostly just quacks, not lifelike at all.The DI gets me close. This also applies to a K&K in a Martin and a MISI in my Beau Hannam.
I recorded through my USB recording interface, which has a 2M ohm input impedance. This high number acts like a preamp or DI and avoids the quack. A low impedance number will quack every time. Go to my site and search for the pickup page. I've got a sidebar about input impedance which will be more helpful than whatever I write here. Long story short, you need a preamp with these pickups (and the K&K). The MISI is a bit strange since it should be active. Have a read and feel free to email me if you have any additional questions. Happy to help.
It’s possible to use it with metallic strings or only nylon? I have a tenor guitar with 4 strings.. Thanks 😁
No idea, but it kinda seems like the metal would be extra abrasive on the pickup. I think it's only designed for nylon strings. Why not a sound hole pickup?
@@BradBordessa Thanks for your answer. I don’t know if a sound hole magnetic pickup would fit into a tenor guitar soundhole, which is smaller then an acoustic one 🤔
@@andreamartini9993 I bet you can find something. There are a lot of tenor guitars. The sound quality you get from a magnet PU will be significantly better
Yup, you don’t want to make “altercations” to your ukulele!
That is a beautiful Ukulele! What brand is it?

Hey, I just wanna help Americans speak English. I think you meant to say alteration, not altercation.
