    Hay kieth. Where have you been. Hope your fit and well. I was thinking about getting one but im glad now i did not.
    I bought a barrelling machine for my totally crusty bits and horse tack and heavy stuff. Had some amazing results. I put my pot of coins of nothingness in let it run and had some amazing results. I would not use it on special things . Your RASC cape badge i found a tie pin same regiment. Good to see you back. Keep safe and well. Wasp & helen 🐝😷

      Hey Wasp and Helen, good to hear from you ! Sadly I can't get out now for obvious reasons, I filmed this a few weeks back and finally edited it. I think I need to get a barrelling machine, heard good things about them. ATB MMMD

    Hey Keith. 👋🏻😃 I got a very similar one at Christmas and it’s brilliant although I haven’t used it much as yet. Good vid pal and I agree that the small ones aren’t great unless you’re cleaning precious metal items. Thanks for sharing, take care, good luck and happy hunting. 🇬🇧 Deano. 😃👍🏻

    Sorry to hear that it didn't work out but thanks for a very honest review.
    Ive used beeswax on a soft cotton buffing wheel in a Dremel. It does soften and lift out heavily encrusted dirt and gives a contrast to help identify a coin. Lets hope we can get back out on the land soon eh

    Hi Kieth , well for about £ 30 i think it would be going into the loft along with the foot spa that my wife bought that's rubbish as well 🤣 , a good honest test and review mate nice on , have you tried Zink powder for silver works wonders 👌 , also instead of buying expensive wax try neutral shoe pollish a couple of coats and buff it up does the business , enjoyed it mate and i hope you are in good health my friend ATB & GL Rob 👍👍

    All the comments about using this kind of machine to clean coins or artefacts are negative also in France among the metal detecting community. It is said you could expect more damage than good effects, if anything. People in charge of cleaning finds from archeological digs do not use them either. Considering the sheer quantity of objects to clean resulting from large scale digs, this kind of machine would have been put to good use long ago if it was effective at all. Tschuss.

      Hi Serge. I think that many of the cleaning methods we try would never be used by professionals, and would pose a risk to precious items for conservation. I agree, if these machines were good cleaners we would all know about it by now, however, It's clear from the other comments that some people are curious and want to know more about these cleaners, so I am pleased I provided the information. Thank you so much for this video, it’s a machine I’ve been looking at. For me, I can’t see it stacking up. I wonder if the bull head was tarnished by the other items in with it maybe? Just a thought. Thanks again, really useful. All the best 👍

      Hi Marcus. I think it's best left to cleaning modern rings and things, it's not strong enough to tackle crusty detecting finds. Glad I saved you the expense. ATB MMMD

    Thanks for doing that Keith it was very interesting, I don`t think I will be buying one. I live in a hard water area and find that a lot of the crustiness on artefacts is limescale and a dip in scale remover makes a lot of difference to some finds without any damage. ATB & HH

    • @MudMaxMetalDetecting

      Hi Ann, that's a good point, mines a hard water area and it never occurred to me that it could be limescale on the coins, what remover do you recommend? ATB MMMD

    • @annturrell8858
      @annturrell8858 3 года назад

      @@MudMaxMetalDetecting I use Kilrock- Big K, for domestic appliances, one part descaler to two parts boiling water, it ruins copper coins and removes patina, I dare not used it on Roman coins I think it would destroy them but it is very good on odd artefacts like that piece you had but didn`t know what it was, I found a gold plated pocket watch covered in crust, a few minutes in the solution and it came up a treat. Be careful , I wouldn`t recommend it for all your finds.

    Electric sander upside down with soapy water in a plastic tub. Will perform better than that machine. Put a bag over the sander first to avoid any spills 👍

      I think this is the first Silvercrest product I've ever bought, defo a budget brand from what I've seen. In it's defence though it's not designed to pull the crusts off old artefacts. ATB MMMD

    It shakes the dirt and other loose debris off. That is it,,

      You are only partially right. The vibration will shake a small amount of loose stuff off, but the main thing with ultra sonic cleaning is the frequency causes a certain amount of cavitation, this is where small bubbles appear on the surface of the object and burst, 'like a mini explosion' taking a small amount of debris, or sometimes the metal with it as it bursts. This is where the damage can occur. The effect is more pronounced on sharp corners, hence the warning about scratches.
