The only way yours and Hasan’s explanation works (in my head) is if she was going to go along with it but she’s just _that_ much of an Italian food fan to the point where when he said that she was like, “nah, I can’t even pretend anymore.” 😂 Which is actually super funny to me. Like, she would’ve gone along and taken the L but his comment on Italian food took it too far, lol.

I was the opposite. She said she went with the guy who’d said family was important, and the Italian guy had come on strong from that angle with the questions getting to know a bit about her and her relationship with family. I was so surprised when she said the hiker’s name. I was like “I guess he’s fine too, but he didn’t really seem to show the traits I thought she liked. It’s as if she mixed up which guy talked about family”. I didn’t think she’d actually reveal she’d mixed them up.. lol

im both a a Hasanabi head and, a rock climber/outdoor adventure guide, I think Hassans feelings about the outdoors are absolutely hilarious lmaooooooo. I did the same outward bound trip in Minnesota and absolutely loved it. as a man some great series have romcom elements. Kaguya sama, Fruits Basket, and Ore Monogatari are some that come to mind. However the reason myself (and from the sound of it, Hasan) don't enjoy them as much anymore is that it's mostly highschool romantic drama, and it ends up being childish or at worst sounding off coming from a 30+ y/o guy

Not trying to defend the anime guy because he seemed to be talking over the girl a bit, but there’s some pretty dope romcom now. Like love is hard I forgot the name but it’s especially focused on weebs and how they decide to date and it follows how hard it is trying to fit in. Not a rom com but saiki is really great. Wow I really can’t think of anything else all I’m saying there’s some really great romcoms that’s strays from western media.

There's BEEN dope anime romcoms but most dudes won't try shoujo so they miss out. Like KareKano is top tier and that came out in the 90s, from the director of Evangelion right after he made Evangelion, and still a lot of male anime fans haven't watched it. And there was a golden period of shoujo romance/romcom anime in the mid to late 2000s.
I do like your picks though, Wotakoi and Saiki are both great. Kaguya-sama is also a great shounen romcom series.

I get where Hasan is coming from, anime fan though I may be. The reason why anime people felt more dynamic is really because the shows span so many topics and social commentaries even if normal people just think its all for kids. Call us weebs or whatever, but its just so much fun when you go to conventions, and people are involved in all types of stuff, from being artists to artisans, writers and performers, who have very diverse opinions. You'll have hours long conversations with people over drinks about everything from politics to why pairing is better than another in "x" show. More fun than I had going to any club or bar. So I get what he meant by saying there is a lot of diversity in anime.
