    That sunfish and pickerel might be fairly genetically isolated. I also think redfin and blue spot. Beautiful fishes and my favorite kind of habit to fish.

    The mosquito fish out here are BRUTAL as a life lister , the state gives them away in bags of 100 to pond owners a couple times a year to help fight the mosquito problem so they are THICK here , and can be a royal pain as a life lister . Congrats Leo ! That sunfish is odd it does remind me of a flier but I have never seen one in person , only in fish species books .

    Congrats on catching your lifer lined TM. When you caught that female I was wondering if you would also catch a male to be able to see the dimorphism of that species. I didn't know if you were also targeting the seminole Killifish that would also be in that area. Then you caught the golden TM. So congrats again.
    I am inclined to consider your mystery sunfish a bluespotted.sunfish. Though I could not see the photos real well the rounded tail ruled out flier. Banded sunfish and mud sunfish also have the rounded tail but that was not a mud sunfish..Again I could not see a banded pattern and thus leaning towards the bluespotted. The pickerel had a longer and more narrow snout than I have seen personally and in photos of redfin pickerel. If the grass pickerel is within its distribution range in that area I would think that it is more likely a grass pickerel than the redfin. Again just a guess😉

    the water in FL tends to be very clear. I never worried about the gators, they're more afraid of you. It's the water moccasins that can be very aggressive. You really need to keep an eye out for those and rattlesnakes.

    You should consider a trip to north florida, from Jacksonville and Amilia Island all the way over to Pensacola and Peridio Key is some great fishing. There is a wide vatiety of rivers especially. I believe that was a chain pickerel. I believe we only have chain and redear pickerel down here.

    Hey Leo! Congrats on the new lifer! Do you have any plans to come to California and target the Sacramento perch? If so do you have any tips? I live in there native range but I’ve never caught one or even seen one.

    Bro... Remote? A bus took you there. That word might not mean what you think it means.
    Fishing begins after 8 minutes of talking. So remote you can drive right up to it.

    • @extremephillyfishing
      @extremephillyfishing  7 месяцев назад +2

      By definition - "Remote: (of a place) situated far from the main centers of population; distant." Take a look at the MAP IN ORLANDO. Open Google Maps. Try to find undeveloped areas around there.
      This place where I went to is one of the last areas around Orange County where you have a HUGE CHUNK of undeveloped land, "situated far from the main centers of population." The entire day that I was there, I saw only THREE people walk by around the area where I fished. By today's standards, and in relationship to the rest of Orange County, THAT IS A REMOTE AREA.
      Sadly, it won't be for too long. The area has been developing for the past decade or so. New houses and home developments are being built every year. Eventually, even a sanctuary like the one in this video won't be as "pure" as it is when I went there. More people will have access to it, which will bring more destruction and more littering to the area. Sigh. But it is what it is with our society nowadays.
      As for your second remark - that's my style of content creation. Catching fish and wetting lines is but A PART of the entire fishing and lifelisting experience. My advice for you...? If you are unhappy with what you see here, there are TONS of other fishing content creators on the platform - go watch whatever makes YOU happy.

      The biggest problem with the Pickerel ID is that both American Pickerel - Redfin & Grass - can be found in that region. Since they are sympatric, there is also a chance that they hybridize. So, you can imagine how hard it is to ID them down there. Lol.
