  • Paramedics visit a 100-year-old patient who has become unresponsive. Concerned that her pneumonia has come back, paramedics rush to hospital. An 85-year-old woman suffers excessive blood loss from a nose bleed. Paramedics believe she may have lost half a litre of blood. Elsewhere, a woman is in extreme pain and vomits as a result.
    For the very first time, an ambulance has been rigged with cameras that provide a unique perspective on what it's like to respond to emergency calls. 'Inside The Ambulance' follows paramedics from the West Midlands Ambulance Service in England as they take us right into the heart of the action. We see heroism at work in the actions of these first responders. We also enter the lives of people in crisis and learn their unique stories.

    My mother had to have a blood transfusion due to a nosebleed. My husband was in the hospital for almost a week due to a nose bleed. I never had realized how serious nose bleeds could be until my moms nose bleed.

    My granddaughter had a nose bleed when she was around 10 that caused her to lose 2 liters of blood. They finally had to take her to surgery and cauterize 3 veins in her nasal cavity. Ended up with a diagnosis of a genetic disorder that caused her to not produce functional clotting platelets.

    Oh my God how many unnecessarily calls. Just like here in Hungary. Calling an ambulance for “i feel disy for 3 days” and the dispacher is sending out the unit without thinking. And people are surprised about all of the cars are allways busy and if there is a reanimation or something serious, they need to wait 20-30 minutes for a unit, because other people need an ALS unit with doctor on it to tell them that if you feel disy you should check your temperature…..

      I’m in Arizona, not that it matters. I have a number of chronic illnesses and am on quite a few medications, including one for dizziness/vertigo and another for the nausea that often comes with it. I also get migraines. One type is the usual migraine, but the other one causes severe dizziness and mimics small strokes or seizures. Plus I tend towards low blood pressure. If I get constant dizziness for three days straight, I could be in more trouble than you might think and yes, that could easily warrant a call for an ambulance. I also have 3 autoimmune disorders, three digestive disorders, and several other issues that could leave me in a world of hurt after only 12-24 hours. A common cold could send me to the hospital. Count your blessings for your health and please consider that what you consider unnecessary might be major for some of us.

      Why would you or anyone wait for 3 days to get medical care for dizziness you’ve had for that long???

    • @vcorlett
      @vcorlett 7 месяцев назад +6

      @@Lauriej117 Personally, if my meds stopped working, I’d probably be calling my primary care doctor rather than going to the hospital, unless my doctor said otherwise. Or if I landed on the floor. But the risks I run of doing exactly that are why I have walkers, and a large, German Shepherd service dog that knows how to brace me. She’s a very good girl and is seldom away from me. She, and my family, and our cats, they’re my life.
      @daraldbeadam check my temperature if I’m dizzy? Nope. Won’t mean a thing for me. My “normal” body temperature runs about a full degree below what is considered normal. I’m also unable to properly regulate my body temperature the way healthy people do. So, if my body temperature goes even slightly above the norm, I’m actually running a low grade fever. I also can’t take some medications that are normally used for reducing fevers. I have to look for alternatives.
      Yep, gotta love life with “invisible illnesses”.

    I bled like that through of all things a skin tag,they fixed it and I went back to the hospital because my arm had been hurting me,for a few weeks. The skin tag was on my vag and so I thought I was bleeding from inside and I told them,I'm not suppose to be bleeding. When I went back for my arm,I went to the bathroom and seen,I started bleeding again. I didn't say anything to the nurse,because they told me I could only be there for one thing last time. The doctor said,don't know why they told you that? I was taking a whole bunch of aspirin and other stuff for the pain in my arm,I think that's why I bled so bad.

    How can they not have found the reason for Kelly’s excruciating lower abdominal pain that made her violently ill, causing blood loss and that she already needed a scan for?????? Maybe it’s because it takes an unimaginable 15.6 weeks to see a gynecologist there .🤷🏻‍♀️ If she was at the hospital for only a few hours and they just sent her home without addressing those issues properly, I feel like they are not taking it seriously at all which is really disappointing to hear- even the paramedics were acting so nonchalantly and almost uninterested and unconcerned when speaking with her in her home and on the ride in the ambulance which felt really strange and out of character compared to all of the other calls as well. 🥺

    • @scorpiouk5914
      @scorpiouk5914 5 месяцев назад +2

      Very sympathetic about Kelley. The reason the doctor asked about pain on the right side is they were thinking she had appendicitis. From personal experience, that is what they try and rule out first. Kelley could have an ovarian cyst, but not likely. Unless they have ruptured, they are not that painful. A fibroid is more likely. Extremely painful and can make you bleed a ton. Both from personal experience.

    Margaret is very very lucky to be alive. I know the EMTs know what their doing, but the whole propping her up may have accidentally tilted her head back-the old wives tale of stopping the bleeding that way. Tilting the head back isn’t for all nosebleeds. A person could choke on the reversed flow of the blood.

    The first lady seems to be a side sleeper, the pressure on her nose could have caused the skin to break and bleed excessively due to the blood thinners. The position of the blood on her pillow and face seem to prove that theory.

    In the US most people would think twice before calling an ambulance for a fever or dizziness(dizziness and severe vertigo are two different things) no one would call an ambulance for a fever and for a 102?? We call parents at the school when a child reaches 101 and don’t consider anything in the range of 100 grounds for a phone call. Are they cheaper in these areas? It cost like 2-5k for our ambulance.

      In the UK medical services are free unless you choose a private doctor/hospital. The NHS is paid out of payroll contributions and taxes..similar to paying into social security. Everyone has access to all treatment unlike here in the US where what you get depends on your insurance. Unfortunately a lot of people abuse the system because it is "free."
