    I'd like to thank Robert Evans for not only having me as a guest on his podcasts, Behind the Bastards and It Could Happen Here, but also for taking time out of his very busy schedule for our Q&A here on InRangeTV.
    I hope we can work together more in the future, it has been truly a pleasure.
    You can find Behind the Bastards at a number of distribution points, but here are a few:

      That bit about the Red Dot on a Garrand made me laugh, just at the idea of it.

    Tuchman has an amazing gift for presenting History. Guns of August is quite good, but so are her books on the Zimmerman telegram, and the Euro states lead up to WW1 (Proud Tower).
    Edited to add: hunting with suppressors - if you have multiple tags, often you can get off a second shot at a second animal with a suppressor before they run where you couldn't without... as far as dogs - we don't often do this here (running dogs on deer is illegal in every state I know of) but some people use dogs to TRACK a wounded or injured deer that may require a dispatching.

    • @trioptimum9027
      @trioptimum9027 2 года назад +2

      Not to mention The March of Folly, which is more or less her answer to that same question. One thing that's stuck with me from Guns of August, since Karl talked about recklessness, is that she makes exactly the opposite argument in one instance: she suggests that, had Austria *immediately* invaded Serbia rather than taking counsel and enlisting allies (I think the phrase she uses is "trumpeting wrath"), it's very likely that Russia's response would have been "well, okay, fair enough, you went after the guys who killed your boy, but we need to talk about what happens next because there's no way we're letting you keep Serbia."

    I went on a rant about no-knock warrants to a Trump loving conservative the other day, and actually turned him around on it. Mainly by pointing out the stuff that could have been ANYONE. The dude crawling in the hall begging for his life could have been anyone. The "gun" that he got the cops called on him for anyone over the age of 18 could buy at your local Walmart, or Amazon, or just about anywhere that sells them, it's not regulated does not have to go through a FFL. In the eyes of the law it's as much a gun as a toaster is a gun. But I also brought cases where they just barged into wrong freaking houses. One family their infant had 3rd degree burns from a flashbang landing in the crib. Wrong house. Cops said oopsie daisy and faced no consequences. By the way guess who pays to fix your front door after cops break through it looking for someone who's never lived there? If you said me, I pay for my door getting smashed in by incompetent police. You'd be right, cause cops aren't held accountable for anything.

    I think the PCC question is less min maxing, and more “I have a budget, and is there any reason to buy a PCC instead of an AR?” ARs are so cheap now, under 400, and it’s hard to recommend other choices without a reason. With barrel length laws being what they are, PCCs can’t be smaller, they don’t have less recoil, and they aren’t cheaper anymore. We’re just left with quieter. Similar to the sks question. Sure it does the job, and if they still cost 200, sure. But they are about 400 now.

    • @SynchronizorVideos
      @SynchronizorVideos 2 года назад +4

      I feel like they addressed that. While the 5.56 is certainly not a recoil monster, an AR-15 can still be an intimidating gun for some people. Even for folks who are fine shooting a rifle, they may find the PCC more fun to shoot. Better to have a gun you enjoy and therefore get good practice with than one that just collects dust in the closet.
      Other reasons I can think of is that pistol ammo tends to be cheaper and easier to reload than rifle rounds, shared ammo/mags with a go-to handgun, and many indoor ranges don’t allow rifle calibers.

    • @mageyeah7763

    I'm by no means a crossbow expert, used to be an archer but I've never shot one. I'm just trying to frame this in my mind - 150m with a crossbow would certainly be possible, though the amount of drop I'm sure must exist there would make it potentially very unethical - though I guess poachers often don't mind as much about such things. I would say that using a compound or other type of hand bow is in no way easy or long ranged, if you can hit a target well enough to hunt past 40-50m you have been doing some serious practicing!

    • @AkiSan0
      @AkiSan0 2 года назад +2

      can confirm. bow archer here: bullseyes on 40m was hard, still consistently possible. hitting the target at 80m was like throwing a stone in an arch. possible but far from consistent. 150 is not something you could do >accurate< with a bow. a short an heavy CB bolt on the other hand is, as @James Healy said, quite possible.

    My understanding is that the Amir Locke situation was authorized for a no knock but police actually knocked. I don’t see how the conversation wouldn’t implicate all warrant service not just no knocks especially when one is sleeping. I guess you could do day/night limits for warrant execution or require a time between knock and entry but then you also run into exigent circumstances where no warrant is required at all.

    • @jemt1631
      @jemt1631 2 года назад +7

      The police didn't announce themselves until after they were inside. There's body cam footage of the Amir Locke shooting and the police used a key to silently open his apartment door and go inside. A few seconds after going inside they start yelling police. Possibly, after they saw him on the couch but, it's hard to tell.

      Any way you want to spin it, there is no reason for it. I personally have been involved in two situations of police going after someone else in the house and fortunately for me, both times the police handled it right. Once the police were after a man in my house suspected of a shooting (and yes, he did it. He shot a friend of mine but only a minor injury) and came and got me at my work. They asked lots of questions as if they were going to go in (where are the entrances and exits, weapons in the house, any dogs, that sort of thing) but never did. Instead they staked out the house and when he got up to leave in the morning, they swarmed in and took him peacefully.
      The second time I heard a knock on the door. I went and opened it and was quite surprised to find four officers standing in a 2x2 square holding ballistic shields. Behind them a plainclothes detective asked to see a man that was staying with me. When I told them he was upstairs in bed, they came in. The detective lightly pushed me back to the side while the other four went upstairs and got him. No guns drawn, no shots fired, no violence of any kind. Simple. If no one there is a threat, they get their man and leave. Had shots rang out, they are fairly safe behind their shields and could retreat, setup a perimeter and call in swat.

      @@jemt1631 I think the point is that: When knocking is lightly tapping on the door as you open it, there isn’t a difference that matters. Without a requirement to wait at the door, all warrants are effectively no knock. A quarter second between knock and entry doesn’t do anything useful.

    • @jemt1631
      @jemt1631 2 года назад +2

      @@mageyeah7763 Yeah thats a good point. Though, in the Breonna Taylor situation the cops did wait at the door before breaking down the door. They were banging on the door in the middle of the night but, didn't announce themselves as police. According to her boyfriend, he asked who was at the door but received no response. The cops involved seemed to be untrained for the situation or just bad at their job, though. One of the cops even put two rounds through the ceiling into the apartment above. Only letting certain officers with proper training execute search warrants seems pretty important as well. Personally, I think police officers should have direct accountability to the people in the communities they serve.

    I absolutely agree that the 2A community needs to open its arms to all groups and encourage people who are perhaps dipping their toes in the water for the first time. Not only is it everyone’s constitutional right but it’s also pragmatic to welcome them with open arms instead of paranoia and suspicion because you don’t approve of their lifestyle or background.
    It’s no secret that the media and anti-gun coalition wants to manipulate certain groups into fearing guns and making it easy to pass restrictions. By embracing everyone and letting them see the realities of the 2A community and gun ownership will only help dissuade their fears and encourage them to stand with us to fight gun control.
    Limiting our ranks and keeping gun rights as a partisan issue only leaves the 2nd Amendment in a very precarious position.

"How's 11 o'clock next Tuesday sound to you?" And some other dude with mutton chops says "my word isn't that 11th of November? Good show my good man 11/11/11? Really appreciate these intelligent discussions. I consider myself very progressive and am coming around on gun control issues more and more. You guys give me hope that we can put aside our differences and make positive changes in our laws.
    I’m especially appreciative of the comments from both of you regarding no-knock warrants. As long as I’ve been aware of the issue, I’ve always encountered any debate on it to be an “us vs them” situation where those on the right instantly strawman the arguments for abolishing the practice as attempts to get more police officers killed because since we’re liberal we must hate cops (in their minds). That’s not to say there wasn’t intelligent and respectful debate out there, they just were not the debates I’d find myself in or observing.
