Aztec Camera wasn't as popular in the United States as they were in Europe, so we never heard their songs on the radio. A friend put Walk Out To Winter on a mix tape for me and I became an instant fan. I had to order all their albums import from Tower Records in Hollywood, and I have been a loyal fan ever since. His lyrics are pure poetry and his music is brilliant!
In 1988 I went to see Aztec Camera at the Royal Albert Hall with some workmates. Our seats were in the boxes. We watched the support act and went to the bar. I think I had drunk just over half of my pint of beer when we heard some music and realised it was the guitar intro of this very song. We knocked back our drinks and ran back to our box for what was an excellent concert. Happy days!
Went to see them at the Edinburgh Playhouse in the 80's. The support band didnt turn up, so out comes Frame with an acoustic guitar, apologises and then does 40 minutes just himself, to a quarter full house. He then goes of and ten minutes later comes back on with the full band and does a full set. One of the best performances i've seen.
Roddy Frame was probably the best kept secret songwriter of that era. And his tunes were spot on as well. The world should have stopped what it was doing and given him full attention- he was that good.
Temazo años 80 !! Gracias por este tema y un abrazo a todos los que les gusto esta canción, en las discos de mallorca año 85 sonaba todas las noches ... que recuerdos !!! Desde balearic islands se os recuerda !!!
I went to see Edwyn Collins about 11 years ago at a gig.... and Roddy Frame came on as a special guest. You could see how humbled Roddy was playing with Edwyn and it just made me appreciate him even more. To me, his first three Aztec Camera albums will be his divine Trinity of work.
I saw this once on MTV back in '85, never again, but the song always stayed in my head. Always knew who and what. I remembered seeing "Oblivious" before this and thought the band had a unique sound for the time. Great to hear this again after all these years!
Tears Just like the jewels adorn their corporate crown Weigh on me worthless And I shake them down and leave now And have no royal things You Would consecrate the ground I paced in pain And though those pavements Caught your sorrow stains, They fall from me and I say Maybe don't fall for anything That says it's never gonna give you everything. I wish myself into your arms To know that all I need is everything The size of the sea And the sun in my eyes And the line in my head Yearning for more Only for more These days are are bright As the days I have seen In the wildest of dreams Yearning for more Only for more I wish myself into your arms To know that all I need is everything Hold back the night I am tired of my sight That won't see anymore More than today Threatening to stay Hold back the night I am tired of my sight That won't see anymore Show me you care Is show me the door
Roddy Frame regularly gets his fair credit as an excellent songwriter. But there is no other male British pop singer who looks as cool in a pair of shades as he does. And it needs to be said more often 😎
He always looked cool A.F. in these videos .. total Rockstar. Ppl know Roddy is the man. Perhaps Johnny Marr's only true guitar rival, on top of being terrific frontman.
The difference between the 80's and 21st century is that in the 80's no matter how much talent you had, you didn't always make it to the top and in 21st century no matter how little talent you have, you always make it to the top.
This's the one of the most popular songs of brilliant 80's pop music which I 've loved. Roddy has even nowadays admirable talent as well as good looking, and still young! He has given me so much pleaasure and love.., really happy having born in the same era with Roddy Frame!
Roddy Frame is such a poet and an equally accomplished musician. I have to apologize to all those young ladies from back in the day who thought I was the lad with the clever words and puppy love notes..... I borrowed liberally from the lyric sheets in "High Land Hard Rain" and "Knife"
another boy wonder from the 80s....roddy had the whole package...incredible song writing, lyricist ,outstanding guitarist..and killer looks. Sad that their talent didnt reach where it should. Funny coz nowadays you dont even need talents or looks to make it huge..long live the 80s.....
Aztec Camera is the TRUTH! This is the track from Knife that the new wave radio stations promoted back in the day. The whole album is so heavy and it still blows me away! I stil have the album review the L.A. Times wrote. "I wish myself into your arms".... Have to admit that I used that line on many a young lady back in the day.
Greetings from Peru. I'm 45. I have always argued that the best creations come from UK. And most of them made by teens, 16. Saludos desde Perú. Yo tengo 45 Siempre he afirmado que las mejores creaciones vienen de UK. Y la mayoría de ellas hechas por jovenes de 16.
@AlbanianMan You are not alone. I adored this song the few times I saw the video on MTV. I first heard it on a show they used to broadcast on radio called Rock Over London. I was so young and videos were still novel and this seemed so poignant and cool with the sensitive, pale blond lead singer. I was so glad that I could see this video again.
I'm sitting here alone drinking red wine and wanted to go on RUclips and put on a song. This is the first thing that came to mind. Love this song, and Roddy was a great looking guy. I feel better now.
bought this album after watching still on fire on mtv. became an aztec fan even copied his haitstyle. i listened to this track every night...everyyyyy night. god bless roddy. ylu brought joy to many lads back in those days.
Man, does this bring back memories. Roddy Frame still makes me weak. A bit of a prodigy at the time, if I recall he was quite young when Aztec Camera started out. Brilliant lyricist..."you...would consecrate the ground I paced in pain..." amazing.
I was a huge Aztec Camera fan in the mid-80s and really enjoyed seeing them then with the Go Betweens supporting in Liverpool. Also saw Roddy Frame much more recently in London, still great.
I saw Roddy perform live in San Francisco back in the early 80's!!!!! I also got the opportunity to briefly meet him after the show - a VERY NICE chap he was indeed! ... And I have been an American Fan for LIFE since then!!!
It has been my favourite music for many years and I still listen to it almost everyday. This version is very good and the video I didn't know it. Thank you. Now I'm trying to remember how I was back in 1983. :-)
This was the first of the new generation of real pop music. They had a lot of training from their predecessors. Their musicianship and lyrical content had a chance to really grow. Good point BST

Roddy Frame is the most underrated artist of his generation. This is a forgotten masterpiece.
1985: awesome song
2023: awesome song
2085: awesome song

The instrumental version of this song was used by the mailbag programme on Radio Canada International (shortwave) during the 80s
Was so popular in Japan. Boys appreciated sounds, and girls loved face. Later on, Ryuichi Sakamoto produced them.
It's so popular right now in Uruguay! FM Stations are playing too much in 2024!
Summer of 85
.in Algarve Portugal..i have now 58 years old. God times with friends.
Eurico from Lisbon
This is one of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard
Yup… 💃🏼💃🏼💃🏼
It rules 😁

Vídeo please 😵
How many other bands would just leave the lot to wait 40 minutes... wish I was there. Or well, alive.
So wish I could've been there!! He's a prodigy
You lucky person!!!
that was an awesome experience, you're so lucky
This is just absolutely amazing... 80s bands really killed it..
Roddy Frame was probably the best kept secret songwriter of that era. And his tunes were spot on as well. The world should have stopped what it was doing and given him full attention- he was that good.
Yes I think he's a musical genius
And a much-underrated guitarist too 👍
Perfectly put mate
Absolutely. Saw them in a little place on the SDSU campus. What a wizard with the guitar.
Same thing but for #VinceClarke (#Erasure), for people who don’t know him.
20년 전부터 들어 2021년도에도 듣는 음악! 음악부터 외모까지 어떻게 이렇게 완벽한건가요.
같은 한국인이라 반갑네요 그러게요 언제즘 질릴까..
More than 30 years after hearing it on the radio for the first time and I'm still loving it.
LOVE THIS SONG FOREVER !!!
中学3年生の時に受験勉強をしながら毎日聞いていた思い出の曲です。Upありがとうございます。
this guy always had an interesting way w/ jazz-like cadences.....awesome.... pure genius.
The boy wonder! The man is even better. Brilliant singer songwriter!
I loved this song since watching this video on MV2 in 1985
Temazo años 80 !! Gracias por este tema y un abrazo a todos los que les gusto esta canción, en las discos de mallorca año 85 sonaba todas las noches ... que recuerdos !!! Desde balearic islands se os recuerda !!!

Ian Brooke you should give the album Frestonia a chance. It’s AC’s last one and pretty good

Brings me back to a great period of music - 1984-1985 - just a fantastic song.
i would stretch that to between 1979 - 1985
Let me shake your hand on this, Ralphie. God, I love this song.
I'm from Peru and I loved "Somewhere in my heart". I used to listen that song when I was about 12.
Tears
Just like the jewels adorn their corporate crown
Weigh on me worthless
And I shake them down and leave now
And have no royal things
You
Would consecrate the ground I paced in pain
And though those pavements
Caught your sorrow stains,
They fall from me and I say

As the days I have seen
In the wildest of dreams
Yearning for more
Only for more
I wish myself into your arms
To know that all I need is everything
Hold back the night
I am tired of my sight
That won't see anymore
More than today
Threatening to stay
Hold back the night
I am tired of my sight
That won't see anymore
Show me you care
Is show me the door
Guauuuuu un millón de gracias for sharing this jewel!
Roddy Frame regularly gets his fair credit as an excellent songwriter. But there is no other male British pop singer who looks as cool in a pair of shades as he does. And it needs to be said more often 😎
I am American, and I belonged to their fan club when I was 15. Getting that mail was the greatest thing ever. I love Roddy.
He always looked cool A.F. in these videos .. total Rockstar. Ppl know Roddy is the man. Perhaps Johnny Marr's only true guitar rival, on top of being terrific frontman.
Sophisticated pop, sophistapop, never goes out of style.
one of the greatest tunes written in the new wave era...
Agreed. A lost classic
Thanks to my memory I remembered the title plus RUclips...Wonderful technology....
The difference between the 80's and 21st century is that in the 80's no matter how much talent you had, you didn't always make it to the top and in 21st century no matter how little talent you have, you always make it to the top.
Incommensurabile! Musica di gran classe!💙
E senza tempo!
This's the one of the most popular songs of brilliant 80's pop music which I 've loved.
Roddy has even nowadays admirable talent as well as good looking, and still young!
He has given me so much pleaasure and love.., really happy having born in the same era with Roddy Frame!
Clever and bittersweet chord progressions, love this
so in love with Roddy Frame since 1984
one of the best ginger kids of all-time.
Roddy Frame was very good looking and such a young musician. I had this album when I was a kid. I have always loved this song.
We were so fortunate to come of age at this time. Amazing music.

What a bright, brilliant and pleasant song!
Roddy Frame is such a poet and an equally accomplished musician. I have to apologize to all those young ladies from back in the day who thought I was the lad with the clever words and puppy love notes..... I borrowed liberally from the lyric sheets in "High Land Hard Rain" and "Knife"

the blow monkeys , everything but the girl, curiosity killed the cat , heaven 17, aztec camera : the 80s
all great musicians. They played with the heart.
Dr Robert, Frame, Weller, L Cole& Thorn all awesome live. Proud to have seen them all.
Dream Academy, Thomson Twind, Style Council, ABC...and quite a few great ones
Style Council as well
María Lourdes Alonso damn! We were so fortunate to come of age at that time. It was magical.
At Roddy Frame concert in Glasgow October 2011. Forgot just how great he was! Can't stop listening now!
It´s sad that there were so much good groups in 80s and many were messed up and now we don´t have so much. It´s a pity. They were fantastic.
Rafael Masiá Tarazona the 80s did produced a bumper crop of artists that will stand out had they come out today!
Adam Ant
Some are still fantastic, OMD, Adam Ant plays well and all the time in England. Coming to America in 2017 and sold out many places.

It's like the Smiths and Culture Club made a song together.
@AlbanianMan You're not alone in your appreciation of Aztec Camera. I've been a fan since the beginning and I live in Houston... Great music!!!
He is so cute!
il avait une belle voix surtout dans cette chanson…..Un peu comme Tony Hadley l'ex chanteur de" Spandau Ballet" ou Rick Astley.

My favorite when I was 14 loved loved this band❤️😘
Superb rhythm guitar on this track. It's kind of latin like Matt Bianco and then like the Smiths or Haircut 100. Brilliant.
i have a cassette tape of this album..one of the greatest songs ever written for me in that era ..very,very nostalgic..really takes me back...
How many of you loved Lloyd Cole, or Paul Kelly, The Jam, Pet Shop Boys, I could go on and on.
Style Council (After the Jam)

This was the first of the new generation of real pop music. They had a lot of training from their predecessors. Their musicianship and lyrical content had a chance to really grow. Good point BST
Awsome beat , awsome track !
Bellissima, quanti ricordi...mitici anni 80
2020, still here and loving it!
Temita fresco y guapo.😎
Tears, just like the jewels

Hold back the night, I am tired of my sight

"Show me you care, " is "Show me the door."
Real cool... so beautiful...❤️
