This is one of the best scenes in the early show. Mind you, this is only 7 episodes in, the first couple dealt exclusively with the initial Goa'uld threat, so this is one of the FIRST exploration episodes in the show. It sets the entire thing up to be a civilization with primitive ways and technology. Sure, they can personally become invisible, but they still appeared primitive. "The very young are not always doing what they are told" Listening, overcoming false pride and accepting that there are people who know more and/or are more intelligent and just get things oneself may not or not immediatly, being humble and showing some humility ... helps. Thinking of oneself as infallible, better than others and being entitled to something others aren't, that generally speaking will stand in once and others ways.

its more then that, its far more powerful then that. Its don't judge a way of life...your values, your ideals, your way of handling things, may be fine for you, but other cultures ways may work for them just as well. Sometimes you need to just stop and listen, learn bout another culture and why they do things... and not try to step in and protect or change them, when its not needed.
@DriftZ TwoSeven judging books or in this case fruit by their covers. for 100's if not 1000+ years, tomatoes were thought to be poisonous. red, vine growing but on the ground, obviously they were toxic.
@DriftZ TwoSeven And for about 200 years, they thought tomatoes were poisonous... because the pewter plates leached lead... they didnt understand it was the acid in tomatoes, so they blamed them... calling them poison ground apples.
@DriftZ TwoSeven they judged a problem based on superficial information, and jumped to an incorrect conclusion. Comically the same concept happened in ww2. A situation called survivor bias. Planes would come back shot to pieces. they would examine the planes, see where the most damage was done, where the most common damage was done, and... up armor those area's. Except... the very fact that those planes made it back with damage to those areas meant they didn't NEED to be unarmored or protected. Where as the area's undamaged on the aircraft that made it back tended to be... engine area's cockpits from certain vectors. They saw a problem, they saw a loss of aircraft... and judged the books by the cover by what they saw... and not by the truth of the matter. A plane landed with half its tail shot off, its rudder missing, 1 gear destroyed... They looked at it with horror and thought... And that drove a bias in upgrades and improvements that actually hurt the aircraft.. making it heavier, slower... and leaving the systems that were being destroyed and causing the LOSS of aircraft... to continue to be unprotected.
I believe that Armin Shimerman was the first Star Trek actor to appear on Stargate SG-1. A few others then did cameos or recurring characters. John de Lancie, Marina Sirtis and the guy that played Captain Jellico as Senator/VP Kinsey
This episode really altered the way I looked at the world and humanity. If you consider humanity to be one being, a super-organism, you realise just how young we are. Until recently, we believed that might makes right, and simply took whatever we wanted. This is very typical for young children. Now, we think money makes right, are obsessed with social status, wealth, and comparing who has the most "stuff". We also think popularity contests are the best way to decide everything (democracy). We... we're middle schoolers, around 11 on a global scale. I wonder what our teenage years will be like.

Pride, greed and division is the enemy of pacifism..we can reach this state easily if humanity can get rid all of this and live as an equal mutual beneficial society..

I wish they'd done more with the Nox, in the post system lord galaxy their pacifism would of been a good thing as it would of made them good mediators for disputes (because they'd wouldn't of wanted anything out of it) also the Ashen would of made for interesting recurring antagonists along side the Lucien Alliance.
The idea is cool. I suspect the first thing the Ashen would do is strike a deal with the Lucians. They would just hand over some of their tech to the Lucian Alliance and let them and the Tau'ri/Jaffa go at one another. And in exchange the Lucians would leave any conquered Aschen worlds alone. While they all fight no doubt countless worlds would end up in the crossfire and the Aschen could swoop in as their saviours. Heal the sick, defend them from staged Lucian attacks, rebuild their cities. Then they introduce their sterility vaccine as per usual to slowly conquer them. They could have dozends of Worlds subservient to them and only fight the Tau'ri/Jaffa once the Ashen have the upper hand. That could have been a great multi season arc.
Man, for all we know, they're just straight up teleporting back to their city when they disappear. Only hanging out on the planet surface when visitors are nearby.

That actor gets around
"The very young are not always doing what they are told"
Listening, overcoming false pride and accepting that there are people who know more and/or are more intelligent and just get things oneself may not or not immediatly, being humble and showing some humility ... helps. Thinking of oneself as infallible, better than others and being entitled to something others aren't, that generally speaking will stand in once and others ways.
0:51 - my core SciFi ethos. I come back to this clip in my mind regularly. The lessons of this series are some of the pinnacle parables of all SciFi.
That soundtrack! It gives me chills everytime I hear it! Love this episode :-)
One of the best episodes in an outstanding and I think underappreciated series.
Reminds me of the Organian's in the ST:TOS episode "Errand of Mercy". They looked helpless too, but were so much more advanced than the Federation or Klingon's could know.
" A shame captain, it would have been glorious" -Kor.
And they forced a peace treaty between the Empire and the Federation, while both the Empire and the Federation thought they had to protect the Organians from the other.
The Federation and the Klingons rolled up on the Organians' ancestor simulation and started messing up their immersion so the Organians had to put a stop to it.
"Dude, I was just about to hit level 90 Goatherd and you're messing with my xp gain... BanHammer for you, BanHammer for you, you, AND you."
The top time when the SG team got OWNED!!!
Stargate was often underrated.
Achievement unlocked: Dalaran discovered.
ROFL
Dalaran? Someone playing world of Warcraft??
Ah, the arrogance of the Nox. "Don't defend yourself. It's evil." Say the masters of cloaking and healing tech with their own city-ship.
The decadent Nox have not suffered a cycle of difficulty: growth through pain and struggle, conflict and war.
@@imperialguardsman521you have their hidden lore ?
Joshua Sweetvale yep I never really liked the nox, the Asgard were by far my favourite
not arrogance, confidence. Many martial arts Masters offer the same advice. When one knows they are in the superior position, there is no shame in not fighting and walking away.
That's why they're so Noxious.
I loved the Nox and wished we could have seen more of them as the show went on. It speaks to how good a concept and how well executed they were that we still remember them all this time later.
"Maybe one day you will learn, that your way is not the only way."-Anteaus
Single best quote in the series, and one that you can truly live by. I think its surprising, but despite being one of the most advanced races in the galaxy they prefer to live simply and are true pacifists.
But I guess that's why they said that quote. ^^
SageMagnus Indeed.
I don't know, I never got that the Nox were pacifists, they merely thought of things so differently that we cannot fathom it.
"If you immediately know the candlelight is fire, then the meal was cooked long ago" ..
I love how unassuming the Nox were to everyone. They were seen as primitive because that's what they wanted people to see. That's the best kind of character.
Live simply? They live in a floating city with tremendous tech.
This was always one of my favourite episodes. Wish we'd seen more of the Nox.
I remember seeing this scene first time. Wowed me.
It's a reflection of real life. Don't judge a book/person by their appearance.
its more then that, its far more powerful then that. Its don't judge a way of life...your values, your ideals, your way of handling things, may be fine for you, but other cultures ways may work for them just as well. Sometimes you need to just stop and listen, learn bout another culture and why they do things... and not try to step in and protect or change them, when its not needed.
@DriftZ TwoSeven yeah... but how long did that keep people from eating poisonous ground apples?
@DriftZ TwoSeven judging books or in this case fruit by their covers. for 100's if not 1000+ years, tomatoes were thought to be poisonous. red, vine growing but on the ground, obviously they were toxic.
@DriftZ TwoSeven
And for about 200 years, they thought tomatoes were poisonous... because the pewter plates leached lead... they didnt understand it was the acid in tomatoes, so they blamed them... calling them poison ground apples.
Both Q and Jelico turned out to be well... very much in character xD
Not forgetting everyones favourite holographic doctor.
Rene Auberjonois played not-Hitler
I love this scene, thanks for uploading it.
We'll never make it past puberty.
This is also why I don't think aliens have contacted us. Who wants to talk to middle schoolers? XD
The age in which Space travel is common for everyday people is new, that will be our period of adolescence
Fear not Hewwmon!
Is that the actor who plays Quark from Deep Space Nine?! 💕
Yep, Armin Shimerman.
SGtidbits Sweet! Thanks!
He was also principal snider in buffy tvs
Also the Principal in Buffy.
how is it possible to want to know more about the nox, but at the same time appreciate them being the mysterious race they are
I mean, isn't that the whole allure of mysteries? To want to know more?
Well, it's the Nox paradox
I need to rewatch the lot again.
Hopefully the new stargate series will be as good as the original series.
What new Stargate series? I literally googled "new stargate series" and what do you know, apparently there's talk of one in the works by Amazon. 🤔
one of the best sci fi show ever made.
This still gives me massive goosbumps everytimes I watch it. The Nox and the Asgard are my two favorites
You know I just realised that is Armin Shimmerman, the actor who plays Quark in DS9.
one of the best episodes.
I love Teal'c saying what we feel it is our duty to do. And it is a noble thing isn't it?
0:58
"Before you go, O'Neill... There is something we would have you see...
It's the Rules of Acquisition, handed down from Grand Nagus to Grand Nagus over centuries. Now where's my latinum, Hu-man?"
The best scene ever in Stargate.
Galactic-sized threats eliminated by the Tau'ri:
Goa'uld
Ori
Replicator
Wraith
Galactic-sized threats eliminated by the Nox:
...
1:36 which rule of acquisition is that Quark? :)
Loved that episode and the Nox.
“Just a little something the Nox told me one time” is one of my favorite lines of all time. What a great episode.
The best part is that I've used that line after imparting some wisdom to my friends and they've never questioned me about it (they don't watch Stargate)
Perhaps the best sci-fi series ever.... rivaled only by Stargate Atlantis and in a smaller way, Star Trek original and TNG.
"Your way is not the only way" Yeah, easy to say this when you are technologically so advanced that you can revive the dead, have flying cities and cloak yourselves from the eyes of the living and any known radar.
Yes. He didn't say the human's ways were bad. He just mentioned that, "Other peoples have different perspectives on dealing with threats". IT would be arrogant for him to assume pacifism would work for earth, but he doesn't. He is confident that their people can protect themselves by doing things their way.
It is amazing how so many people miss the point of this episode...or deliberately ignore the point while they take a piss on pacifism.
Pride, greed and division is the enemy of pacifism..we can reach this state easily if humanity can get rid all of this and live as an equal mutual beneficial society..
Imagine our military doing the right thing where we would be , all we've achieved is destruction they don't have the right mindset to understand the knox .
@@mosalah8551 Your words say "socialism", but the GTU flag in your PFP says "facism".
Well, autocracies converge in practice despite ideological differences, I guess.
god i love the nox, they're my favorite race in stargate.
I don’t like them. They took their extreme pacifism to the point where they ignored the violence and suffering around them.
2:11 the very young do not always do as they are told . . .
This was one of my favorite episodes
G’Kar, “They are a mystery, and I am both terrified and reassured that there are wonders in the universe that we have not explained everything.” Sigma 957
Teal'c does the voice of Kratos in God of War. His voice is perfect for it.
Fear not... one day the Nox will acquire a good pair of shears.
This whole show is like fine wine.
Same thing every year, bit more.. "special" each go around.
I really wanted an episode for when the tolans stayed with the nox untill they got their "new" home
Is that Quark from DS9? Its the voice,,it has to be him!!!
The Aachen are hopefully eating black hole.
@@pchowardltd2437 It's more likely that they used a spaceship and got rid of their stargate in space.
Never judge a book by its cover. Looks can be deceiving.
Macgyver. The Chellenge
“Maybe one day you will learn that your way is not the only way“yeah there’s a lot of people who could be learning from those words today.
If only I was alive to see this show air on TV
Quark moonlighting as a hippie techno-mage.
Man, for all we know, they're just straight up teleporting back to their city when they disappear. Only hanging out on the planet surface when visitors are nearby.
If we shadows have offended,
Think but this and all is mended,
That you have but slumber'd here
While these visions did appear.
And this weak and idle theme,
No more yielding but a dream,
Gentles, do not reprehend:
If you pardon, we will mend.
And, as I am an honest Puck,
If we have unearnéd luck
Now to 'scape the serpent's tongue,
We will make amends ere long;
Else the Puck a liar call:
So, good night unto you all.

A Midsummer Night's Dream,
Cool ! Génial! Enfin une civilisation qui a compris ! Peace and love !
The funny thing is: It is actually Quark the Ferengi is disguise ;)
SG-1 is proof that you can still have much to learn but still be wise.
Wisdom is a scam. Wise words will justify everything and it's opposite, not give any advice that is actually helpful for any given situation, but there is always some wise saying that applies in hindsight.
When the last SG team disappear
Through the morning mist, so clear
They were seeking land, could they understand
That they never would return?

Damn that's some Shimerman acting, he can play both the ruthless interstellar capitalist and the OP space hippie like a natural.
Good sci-fi has always had the best acting in television, even when they overdo it like Shatner or Auberjonois.
And while speaking of overdoing it, let's add Avery Brooks to that list. :)
@@SGtidbits It doesn't count, sorry, Captain's Prerogative, and you better pray the Prophets he doesn't beam you to the wormhole.
He can also play an authoritarian school principal with underlying inferiority issues like he was born to play it.
Ah, yes... season 1. With Daniel in a combat helmet. :D ^^ Even though the show would just keep getting better and better, I still have a soft spot for season 1. :) It's where everything began and I can enjoy it fully today knowing what it meant and what would come after.
Well, plus, the early installment weirdness is just hilarious xD
It's Quark.😊
some things you gotta learn in the school of hard Nox
I never realized before that this is the Ferengi Quark (Armin Shimerman) and I saw both shows a thousand times. 😅
It is amazing how so many people miss the point of this episode...or deliberately ignore the point while they take a piss on pacifism.
I hope the Nox will return in a future installment of the franchise. Not to mention it's about time the Furlings are finally introduced. (Yep, I know about episode 200, but that was a joke)
Assistant Director: "If we can create a show where all dialog is delivered in monotone and all sentences have less than seven words we'll have a hit!"
Director: "Make it so Number Two"
A rat nipping at a wolf's heels...
the Nox were probably the biggest unintentional gangsters of the entire series. so much power wielded at exactly and precisely the right times.
at the end they were like: wait since when are you this wise o´neill...... and when he explained it: oh phew that makes sense
Just saw Richard Dean anderson imat comic con Holland, meeting a childhood hero, made me very happy
What's Quark doing here? Shouldn't he be tending bar on DS9?
He actually works as a principal at a school with a terrible homicide rate.
Nobody seems to take note of how the stargate was instantly dialed and silently activated by them.
And O’Neil still acted surprised when Daniel told him about the Ancients “flying city”
in all fairness, small difference between hovering city and wormhole travelling intergalactic super city
