Finally a groomer with patience and who knows what she's doing. I've been watching many American groomer who just shave the dogs and that's it. And it all has to go fast because the next one is waiting. Dogs get upset, are stressed etc. In this video you see how it SHOULD be done.
Miniature Schnauzers are such amazing calm loving dogs. Our Dog after 14 long years unfortunately passed a few years back. He was amazing, always protecting while i was a little little child, He was always there to guard gently. He would sit under my crib and look for anyone that came in. When my dad would take me somewhere in the house The dog followed right behind. Amazing little dogs and the cutest things ever.
your slow movements are essential guide to a good groomer. My teacher told me not to rush and slow movements. Thanks so much for the video. I done one Large today. My first start to finish. This video was of great help !
My congratulations, Angela Caley! You are indeed an excellent professional! This video really met my best expectations, I was quite pleased when I came across your handstripping lesson, because now I feel inspired and confident enough to follow your instructions. Thank you for sharing this with the world!
I so much enjoy watching her groom , she does a excellent job on stripping the dogs coat, Im a groomer of 45 yrs and can't do any stripping anymore due to the Arthritis in my hands, but still able to do some grooming.
Best schnauzer tutorial EVER!! I wish I could find a groomer to do hand stripping. I'm in Sacramento, but I'd drive any where in No. CA if I could find someone like you!!!
I love your channel... lost my first Schnauzer of 16 years three years ago.. and after three years ago... a precious little sassy Schnauzer puppy picked us to be his new human parents.. and with empty nest syndrome of two years.. it’s caused great joy to ring in our home again. His name is SCHATZI VON HOWITZER.. ( my husband just had to name him HOWITZER!!). Lol He’s a pistol..
Наконец-то нашел настоящего грумера по шнауцерам. А то чем полон интернет. Парикмахеры держитесь подальше от шнауцеров😂😂😂. Мастер в этом ролике настоящий профессионал.
Just wondering if you could please tell me the brand and size tools she used for stripping and blending? My Miniature Schnauzer is eight weeks old. At what age should I start stripping his coat? I have my own standard poodle that I groom. I’m not a professional by any means but feel I could do this myself.
Would like more info on the knives I’m still learning how to Hand Strip I just got a show dog and I want to keep his coat the same way. I have all the tools. I have the diamond Hand Strip tools. I have all the other Hand Strip knives but would love to purchase a video of a full detailed from what knives to use how to do it with a giant schnauzer.
Does handstripping prevent schnauzer bumps? My schnauzer gets clipped but he gets bumps on his lower back that won’t go away? He is 6 years old. Would it be too late to start hand stripping and would it help his issue?
Hello Angela. It was very nice waching you working with the dog, I resenly got a Snauzer puppy, medium one and was worrying about that striming, so it was calming to see that it doesnt hurt for the dog. still, its hard for me to decide rather I prefer a striming or clipping: the most important thing for us is that the dog wont shed becouse my husband is allergic, and thats the reason we got a Shauzer dog. but, at the other hand, I personally prefer a softer feir and brighter as well, so for that matter, the clipping is better. so, the question is, if triming makes the dog not to shed? and clipping cause shedding? Hopping for a conclusion ,and thanks alot for the precious knowledge, especially since cliping is irreversible.
A FULL blood Schnauzer does not shed no matter how they are trimmed. They do not have fur but have hair and is the reason they need to be groomed every 6 weeks. Dogs that have fur do not have to be trimmed and the fur falls out as new fur comes in. I also am allergic to dog fur and have no problems with my Schnauzers even when I groom them.
When you cut the inside of his back legs and butterfly, what size blade did you use? Also, for inside his pads to cut the hair, what size blade was used?
How do you do a Mixed male Schnauzer Shih zuh ? He is 9, has very long hair straight on sides and curly hair on head, tail, Mixed legs. Hes just handsome and loves baths and brushing, combing. He does get matted very easily which I'd like to remedy if possible for him. He is a Rescue and such a loving boy. Also I am wondering what about black nails? His coat colors are black with cream brows and feet & underskirt, hints of grey. Thank you..
BarefootwalkingGypsy Timm the best thing to do is trim him short and give yourself a fresh start if he’s matted, then to keep him from getting matted you need a slicker brush without any rubber or plastic balls on the brush it should be sharp, and a greyhound comb and brush before and after bathing, you can also just brush without a bath which I would recommend doing at least once a week, also if he gets wet outside if it’s raining or anything he needs to be dried and brushed because when dogs get wet they get matted and old matts getting wet get tighter
I'm confused - she says she stripping the dog, but since she's using the toothed edge of the blade, is she actually carding instead of stripping? I was under the impression that stripping involved the non-serrated edge of the knife and pulling with the hair between the non-serrated edge and your thumb/finger.
Stripping knives have those teeth to trap and pull the coat between the knive and thumb. Stripping involves either just fingers with the little condoms, stripping knives or stones and removes the top coat while carding knives/blades remove the dead undercoat.
Anyone know if you can still strip if the breeder clipped the dog already? Wondering if since it was just one time it's possible to still get the double coat? If so, how would you go about it?
It could be possible but I cannot assure you. A (good) groomer could tell you for sure as you need to FEEL the coat to know if it can be done. But if you are willing to do a try (only 3-4 longer hair strings) I think you can determine too. It shouldn't feel very soft to the touch, and if you pull one string and it comes out easily just as for example your eyebrow would with an eyebrow teaser (not forced too much), than it can still be done. I have had a dog in my salon this summer who is 10 years old and he was CLIPPED every summer (only once in a year, so 9 times probably) and I could very easily hand strip him. But other times there are puppies who even born with not so ideal coats for hand stripping (even if they should be according to their breed description) with no prior clipping. Best of luck with your puppy! :)
Evelyn Roman it is possible but not likely your dog will tolerate it. Rather than cutting the hair with a blade you are now pulling out the hair from the follicle. Most hand stripped show dogs start the grooming practice at only a few weeks old.
I’m confused, if you’re not clipping the back, how do you get the style with the skirt? I had two schnauzers growing up and if my parents didn’t get them groomed their hair would get really long and messy and gross lol so if the blade doesn’t cut the hair, how does it not grow out?
The long hairs are pulled out. Dogs with these kind of fur have wire coats which (when reaching a certain point) can be pulled out without any pain caused to the dog. The ones you pull out will be replaced by another strings after about 4 weeks. This way (if you roll the coat as the lady said) you can maintain a short coat without causing bald patches, cause you always take out the long hairs to make place for new (and of course shorter) strings.
Talented groomer but clean your blades!!! Did you see how nasty those blades were in her drawer? I'm a groomer and everything should be cleaned after each use. NAST T. Other wise great job lol.
wendy Scarrott if the coat doesn't come out easily you shouldn't strip them at that point. You want to remove the loose hairs so it isn't painful at all, if done correctly (keeping the skin taut, stripping with the grain etc)
Sorry I think we have to agree to disagree. Perhaps not as much if you are rolling an existing coat however if you are starting out in stages then yes it can be painful. There are some areas that I have found to more tender to the dogs than others.
When opened the draw to get a blade for the ears the blades looked filthy with old dog hair wow shame she is not a professional cleaner I would never take my dog to this lady.
Yes and no. I had a mini Schnauzer in the early nineties, we did neither clip ears nor tail and for the first two years of her being with us, we did nothing but comb her coat. She looked like a yeti, not like a Schnauzer. We were not told by the breeder what to do with her coat. So her tail had long flowy texture, too. First time at the groomers, they shaved her everywhere except face. She looked like a completely different dog. Her dad was black, mom was salt and pepper. After clipping her coat, she was grey/blue. And the tail looked so thin. We decided to not do this again, and since she was not showing, it did not really matter.
Hi lady, very nice video, so gentle and very well explained. A change of subject though. Have you considered going vegan?? Dr. Mcdoughall's program is very good to improve health
It dose not hurt the dog 😂 It's the dead under coat comming out, before assume do your research. 😒 It only hurts them if they get cut with the stripping knife
Finally somebody trimming the dog back not just shave it, thank you!
Finally a groomer with patience and who knows what she's doing. I've been watching many American groomer who just shave the dogs and that's it. And it all has to go fast because the next one is waiting. Dogs get upset, are stressed etc. In this video you see how it SHOULD be done.
I find these so relaxing I probably will never groom a dog but I've watch like 20 of these today

Hello from Athens, Greece. This is so helpful. Dear Mrs. Caley, I am grateful indeed for all the tips and information. With my best wishes.
Thank you! I see so many groomers on RUclips shave schnauzers and it makes me so mad! Thank you for showing people the right way!
Schnauzers are so incredible adorable dogs, groomer was so gentle and dog just a doll doesn't mind grooming at all.
I'm watching this with a smooth coated whippet next to me. He's really handy for checking the anatomy she mentions. Loved this vid!
I love when she called him a Ham 😂
You are so very gentle with this video. You gave some great advice and I learned a good deal from you. Thank You.
Great video. Lovely and calm lady. Wondered if you could list the tools used to strip and groom the schnauzer

Fantastic tutorial. You’re the Monet of dog grooming! 👍🏻
What a patient dog and a groomer! I wonder how long it would take to roll a coat once over...

Excellent Video...thankyou! So much more calm & caring than many ive seen....great explanations. 🤘🏼
I will use this as a guideline in order to keep my Schnauzer at it's best.
Hi there! Very nice tutorial, thanks. My question is how to you know when to FIRST strip the puppy? Mine is 4 months old. Thanks!
Schnauzers are so cute no matter the haircut they have. Even when they are wild and woolly. 💘
I very much appreciate this video although it is hard to stay awake with your soothing voice lol

I am sure you can find someone who hand strip schnauzers :)
I adore this wonderful lady.
I loved watching this thank you. Some great tips as well. Have you got your own grooming channel or page I can follow?
Wonderful Video thank you so much! One question: did you wash him first?
Thanks for a great video!
I’ve learned so much 😃
Amazing tutorial and tips. THANK YOU
Good job. Not many are aware that you should hand-strip a Schnauzer.
Utile come tecnica di base anche per lo schnauzer medio .... Però aspetto un tutorial a lui dedicato !!!
Just wondering if you could please tell me the brand and size tools she used for stripping and blending? My Miniature Schnauzer is eight weeks old. At what age should I start stripping his coat? I have my own standard poodle that I groom. I’m not a professional by any means but feel I could do this myself.
Уважаемый мастер, покажите видео как вы работаете полосками для триминга. У меня тоже возникала такая идея, и я услышал это в вашем ролике.
Would like more info on the knives I’m still learning how to Hand Strip I just got a show dog and I want to keep his coat the same way. I have all the tools. I have the diamond Hand Strip tools. Beautiful job!
what brush and combs are those ?
Does handstripping prevent schnauzer bumps? My schnauzer gets clipped but he gets bumps on his lower back that won’t go away? He is 6 years old. Would it be too late to start hand stripping and would it help his issue?
Can you use the same technique on a giant schnauzer?
What do you do if you have a mega coat schnauzer and want to keep his black color?
What tools (blades, scissors & knives) are used in this video?
Hello Angela. It was very nice waching you working with the dog,

Hi, what have you found about the dog?...my reasons are the same for getting one. Do they shed much, is stripping better for them? Ty.

Dogs that have fur do not have to be trimmed and the fur falls out as new fur comes in. I also am allergic to dog fur and have no problems with my Schnauzers even when I groom them.
I'm going to try .groomers are getting very hard to get and they are very expensive so I'm going to try wish me luck. Do you have any suggestions?
When you cut the inside of his back legs and butterfly, what size blade did you use? Also, for inside his pads to cut the hair, what size blade was used?
10 blade for butterfly and sani, 15 or 30 blade for pads.

I’ve been told I need to strip back to bald for show. How do I get rid of the hair? I can’t grip the last bits
Is the green handle a coarse knife?
So once you clip a schnauzer you can't stripp the coat?
Reminds me of my well-behaved boy. Where does one get a hand stripping tool?
would this be similar to "deshedding" a dog? or is stripping more particular to wire haired breeds?
No and yes
Where are all the HandStrippers in the South East USA???
Smiegel. love the name
estuvo precioso, la felicito hizo un trabajo excepcional

My understanding is that carding and stripping use the same tools, but the technique determines whether you're pulling undercoat or topcoat.

Love the comments. You do realize that she is pulling the dog's hair out, right? If it was "dead" it would come out with no effort.
Very helpfull!
Is it possible to hand stripped a dog that has been previously clipped?

Start grooming practice at a few weeks old? Really? What practice? Surely not stripping.

thank you
I don't even have a dog, why am I here?
Talented groomer but clean your blades!!! Did you see how nasty those blades were in her drawer? I'm a groomer and everything should be cleaned after each use. NAST T. Other wise great job lol.
Yep, it was pretty bad. It looked like each and every blade had wads of hair on it. Can’t understand that; it is very unsanitary.
Is it painful for the dog to be stripped?
wendy Scarrott if the coat doesn't come out easily you shouldn't strip them at that point. You want to remove the loose hairs so it isn't painful at all, if done correctly (keeping the skin taut, stripping with the grain etc)
I would say no more painful than plucking your own eyebrows.
No because you are only pulling dead hairs.
myztiquems not true. It shouldn’t hurt at all, plucking your eyebrows you feel some pain, while stripping its removing dead hair.
Sorry I think we have to agree to disagree. Perhaps not as much if you are rolling an existing coat however if you are starting out in stages then yes it can be painful. There are some areas that I have found to more tender to the dogs than others.
Hand stripping seems a tad much, but I will leave to experts.
This cameraman is awful! Could they have not asked somebody else with a steadier hand?
Little bits and pieces 😂😂😂😂

This is really sad.....I was shocked to see you pulling the hair out!!!! It looks so painful!! Poor dog!
It dose not hurt the dog 😂
It's the dead under coat comming out, before assume do your research. 😒
It only hurts them if they get cut with the stripping knife
Another case of someone inserting an opinion when they know nothing about the process 😑
He is falling asleep, I really don't think he is in any pain.
It is obvious you have no idea what Hand Strip is all about. It does not harm the dog or hurt him.
